Insulin signaling in PCOS/PMOS: molecular insights and clinical implications.

Insulin signaling in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) involves selective pathway alterations that link metabolic disease to reproductive pathology. In metabolic pathways, impaired PI3K/Akt signaling limits insulin-dependent GLUT4-mediated glucose intake, while ovarian steroidogenic responses to insulin are preserved. Compensatory pancreatic β-cell insulin secretion and reduced hepatic insulin clearance lead to hyperinsulinemia, suppressing sex hormone-binding globulin, increasing free androgen bioavailability, and amplifying ovarian androgen p

Case Report: Computed tomographic diagnosis of asymmetric bilateral uterine horn torsion secondary to benign uterine leiomyomas in a non-gravid dog.

Uterine torsion is uncommon in dogs and most commonly involves a single uterine horn. An 11-year-old intact female Pomeranian was presented with a 2- to 3-day history of abdominal distension, dyspnea, anorexia, vomiting, and oliguria. Clinicopathologic findings indicated renal compromise, electrolyte abnormalities, tissue injury, and marked systemic inflammation. Radiography and ultrasonography revealed large bilateral abdominal masses with peritoneal effusion, although the organ of origin could not be determined. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) demonstrated masses arising from both

Foeniculum vulgare and metformin combination improve ovarian function in a rat model of polycystic ovary syndrome: targeting AMH imbalances, folliculogenesis disruption, fibrosis, and abnormal vascular density.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a major cause of female infertility, is accompanied by elevated anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), ovarian hypervascularity, and excessive collagen deposition. While metformin is a well-established treatment, no study has yet explored whether Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel)-a medicinal plant with documented anti-PCOS benefits, administered alone or in combination-can attenuate these hormonal and structural abnormalities; this study provides the first integrated evaluation of both agents on ovarian damage in rats. Thirty-three female Wistar adult rats were divided into

Risk of Infertility Due to Vitamin D Deficiency among Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder and a leading cause of infertility in reproductive-aged women. Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency may exacerbate PCOS-related reproductive and metabolic disturbances. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among infertile women with PCOS and explore its association with subfertility. This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Infertility, Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), from November 2019 to April 2025. Total 155 infertile women aged 18-40 years; diagnosed with P

Dietary magnesium intake modified association between visceral adiposity index and chronic kidney disease: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is considered as one of the major global public health concerns. The visceral adiposity index (VAI), a marker of visceral fat dysfunction, has been associated with CKD in previous reports; however, evidence from U.S. populations remains limited. In addition, the potential modifying role of dietary magnesium intake in this association is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between VAI and CKD among U.S. adults and to explore whether dietary magnesium intake modifies this association. METHODS: A total of 2,616 participan

Barriers to Adherence to Remote Pelvic Floor Muscle Training Among Postpartum Women: A Qualitative Study Guided by the COM-B Model.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is recognized as the first-line conservative intervention for postpartum pelvic floor rehabilitation. Remote pelvic floor muscle training, defined as a training modality conducted at home via mobile applications, online platforms, teleconsultation, or application-based reminders, without real-time on-site supervision, has expanded the accessibility of rehabilitation services; however, patient adherence remains suboptimal. Elucidating the barriers to adherence is critical for developing effective and well-accepted intervention strategies. This stu

Structure and ligand based high throughput virtual screening against 3-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type-1 for drug development to treat PCOS.

A hormonal disorder that severely affects women's routine physical and emotional life is PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). It has been witnessed as a heavily detrimental and most threatening disorder, causing multiple complications, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial carcinoma. One of the major causes of PCOS is hyperandrogenism, which results in the dysfunction of the ovaries. The enzyme responsible for such excessive production of androgen is 3-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase-1 (3βHSD1), which is an oxidoreductase that performs multiple functions in steroid me

Glycolysis is intrinsically required in the follicle stem cell lineage but not in female germline stem cells or their early progeny in Drosophila melanogaster.

Multiple tissue stem cells depend on glycolysis or β-oxidation for cell fate decisions. However, how universal these requirements are and how they change as stem cell daughters undergo differentiation remains unclear. The Drosophila ovary is a powerful stem cell model with two distinct stem cell populations: germline stem cells (GSCs), which produce oocytes to perpetuate the species, and follicle stem cells (FSCs), a somatic lineage. Several studies have begun addressing the roles of metabolism within the Drosophila female GSC lineage, but direct systematic analyses of glycolysis and/or mitoch

Role of reactive oxygen species in polycystic ovary syndrome: signalling pathways, mechanisms, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment strategies.

The biological role reactive oxygen species (ROS), both as byproduct of cellular respiration and as crucial secondary messengers, has been extensively acknowledged in scientific literature. Key ROS-generating enzymes and organelles, including mitochondria, NADPH oxidase, and the endoplasmic reticulum, have been found closely linked to the regulation of metabolic processes. An imbalance between oxidative and antioxidant systems, resulting from abnormal ROS production and leading to oxidative stress (OS), has been implicated as a significant pathogenic in a variety of diseases, such as polycysti
