A novel HPV E6/E7-regulated long noncoding RNA CRL suppresses cervical intraepithelial neoplasia progression by attenuating ferroptosis.

Sustained human papillomavirus (HPV) infection induces cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), a well-established precursor lesion and risk factor for cervical cancer. However, the specific long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that regulate CIN progression remain poorly characterized. Herein, we identified a novel lncRNA, designated CIN-related lncRNA (CRL), and explored its role in CIN pathogenesis. Clinically, reduced CRL expression was significantly associated with advanced CIN stages, suggesting a potential correlation with disease severity. HPV oncoproteins E6 and E7 suppressed CRL expression

Delivery mode and maternal health conditions before and after childbirth: A population-based cohort study from Estonia.

INTRODUCTION: Cesarean section (CS) is the most common gynecological surgery globally, with rates increasing in many developed countries. In Estonia, the CS rate rose from 6.4% in 1992 to 20.6% in 2021. While CS can be lifesaving when medically necessary, its rising use without clear medical indication does not have benefits for the mother but is associated with a broad spectrum of long-term complications, including uterine rupture, abnormal placentation, ectopic pregnancy, abnormal uterine bleeding, and chronic pelvic pain. The Estonian Biobank (EstBB) is a population-based biobank that links

The Effectiveness of a 6-Week Online Mindfulness-Based Intervention on Patients With Cervical Cancer or High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion: A Randomized Controlled Trial Using Multimodal Data of Scales and Electroencephalogram.

BACKGROUND: Patients with cervical cancer or High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (HSIL) often experience mental problems such as anxiety and depression. Online mindfulness-based interventions offer accessible mental health support. However, evidence for cervical cancer or HSIL patients remains scarce, and evaluations often rely solely on self-reported scales, with a lack of neurophysiological assessments. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a 6-week online mindfulness-based intervention on mental health outcomes in this population by using scales, with exploratory frontal el

Safety and oncologic outcomes of total laparoscopic versus abdominal hysterectomy following diagnostic conization for adenocarcinoma in situ and stage IA1 cervical cancer: a multicenter retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: While simple hysterectomy is the standard treatment for adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) and stage IA1 cervical cancer, minimally invasive surgery has been increasingly adopted. However, evidence on the safety and efficacy of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) for these conditions remains limited. We compared the safety and efficacy of TLH and total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) in patients undergoing simple hysterectomy following diagnostic conization. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter retrospective study of 196 patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN3), AIS

Exploring the Differences in Severity of Cervical Dysplasia between Ontario Residents and Refugees: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVES: Most refugees living in Canada have never had cervical cancer screening. The objective of this study was to compare the histologic grade of cervical dysplasia at the first colposcopy visit between refugees and Ontario residents. METHODS: Using a retrospective cohort design, we compared grades of dysplasia for patients presenting to their initial colposcopy visit for abnormal Pap cytology between those insured with coverage granted by the Federal government to refugees [the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)], and age-matched patients insured under the Ontario Health Insurance P

A cross-sectional analytical study assessing apoptotic index as a marker of disease progression in cervical dysplasia.

INTRODUCTION: cervical cancer is a major malignancy in women. In cancer cells, there is an equilibrium between cell proliferation and apoptosis. Defects in this pathway allow cells to replicate. Therefore, the apoptotic index (AI) can be used to assess dysplasia. The aim of this study was to assess the apoptotic index of various grades of cervical epithelial dysplasia. METHODS: slides were retrieved from women with gynaecological complaints undergoing cervical biopsy or hysterectomy at a tertiary care hospital. The histopathology slides of 140 cases were studied from March 2021 to Feb 2022. S

Aperiodic EEG spectral features as consistent indicators of Parkinson's disease: a machine learning approach utilizing fitting oscillations and one-over-F decomposition.

A major challenge in Parkinson's disease (PD) research is the identification of non-invasive neurophysiological markers that can distinguish PD patients from healthy controls while providing interpretable information about cortical dysfunction. This study investigates whether aperiodic EEG spectral parameters extracted using Fitting Oscillations and One-Over-F decomposition can serve as candidate indicators for exploratory PD classification and medication-state analysis. Resting-state EEG data from 15 PD patients and 16 healthy controls were analyzed. For PD participants, both medicated and un

Preoperative Considerations for Uterine Fibroid Removal in Patients With Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome and Klippel-Feil Syndrome: A Case Report.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKHS) is a congenital disorder characterized by dysplasia of the uterus and upper vagina due to Müllerian duct dysplasia. Fibroids arise from the rudimentary uterus. The implementation of surgical intervention for uterine fibroids in patients with MRKHS presents several challenges and considerations. The rudimentary uterus is tiny, making it difficult to determine the location of the pelvic mass and diagnose uterine fibroids. Preoperative planning is often inadequate, necessitating intraoperative decision-making. In addition, patients with MRKHS may pr

Prophylactic HPV Vaccination in Gynaecological Practice: Recommendations, Practices, and Challenges Reported in the ESGO-PERCH HPV Survey.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: HPV vaccination is highly effective in preventing HPV-related cancers when administered before viral exposure. However, vaccination practices for patients already diagnosed with gynaecological cancers remain poorly characterized. Understanding clinicians' perspectives and barriers is essential for optimizing preventive strategies in oncologic care. METHODS: We conducted an international, web-based survey among members of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) and the European Network of Young Gynaecological Oncologists (ENYGO). The questionnaire explored

Expanding vaginal microbiome pangenomes via a custom MIDAS database reveals Lactobacillus crispatus accessory genes associated with cervical dysplasia.

The vaginal microbiome plays a central role in reproductive health. Vaginal microbiome dysbiosis is associated with many adverse reproductive health outcomes, but most studies have focused on associations at the species level. The potential contribution of intraspecies microbial variation, especially gene content differences across bacterial strains, remains underexplored in reproductive health contexts. The Metagenomic Intra-Species Diversity Analysis (MIDAS) framework enables such analyses, but depends on comprehensive reference databases. We constructed a MIDAS-compatible pangenome database

Concomitant low-grade B-cell lymphoma and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

Primary cervical lymphoma is a rare entity of cervical malignancy. The diagnostic pitfalls arise from the non-specific clinical presentation and poor sensitivity of cervical cytology in detecting the disease. Here, we present a case of extra-nodal marginal zone cervical lymphoma in a postmenopausal nulliparous woman. The patient underwent colposcopy due to an abnormal cervical smear and was found to have a large cervical lesion in keeping with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Cervical conisation was performed, and a low-grade B-cell lymphoma confined to the cervix was found
