An elderly postmenopausal woman with untreated vulvar lichen sclerosus and lichen planus (LP) overlap presented with abdominal pain, constipation and urinary symptoms. Severe vulvovaginal scarring caused complete vaginal obliteration, preventing conventional speculum examination and transvaginal ultrasonography. Endorectal and abdominal ultrasonography revealed a large cystic pelvic mass. Urgent laparotomy identified extensive haematocolpos and uterine distension due to complete outflow obstruction. The patient underwent a hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and subtotal colpectomy.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVE: Experimental and observational studies have linked mefloquine use to an increased risk of developing neuropsychiatric adverse effects such as depression or psychoses. Transverse vaginal septum (TrVS) is a rare congenital anomaly of the Müllerian duct system that leads to obstructed menstrual flow. We present a case of a teenage girl with primary amenorrhoea, cyclic pelvic pain and a high transverse vaginal septum associated with haematocolpos and a septate uterus. PURPOSE: This study aimed to perform a systematic review of patients with Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome (HWWS) and present the prevalence of symptoms, anatomical variants, endometriosis, surgical interventions, and short- and long-term outcomes.
METHODS: A structured search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and studies published between 1 January, 2000 and 19 April, 2022 were included. We report a postpubertal case of obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis syndrome who presented with dysmenorrhoea and light menstrual flow. Haematocolpos, caused by imperforate hymen, is a rare condition where menstrual blood accumulates in the vagina. Adolescent girls presenting with amenorrhoea, cyclical abdominal pain, and pelvis mass should be evaluated for this condition. Diagnosis requires a gynaecological examination. However, myths surrounding the hymen may impede proper medical care. Addressing these misconceptions is essential for promoting gynaecological care and ensuring timely evaluation and treatment. This case report emphasises the significance of effective communication in preventing misdiagnoses and care delays.

A young adolescent girl with trisomy 13 was admitted twice to the paediatric department: the first time because of haematocolpos due to uterus didelphys and unilateral transverse vaginal septum, and the second time because of heart failure due to ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. As a consequence of the historical early high mortality rate in trisomy 13, we are not aware of known complications in older patients. With better survival nowadays through childhood, we advise structural ultrasonographic cardiac and female genital screening in trisomy 13 patients reaching adolescent age.
