INTRODUCTION: Tinea corporis (TC; ringworm or dermatophytosis) is a superficial skin infection caused by Microsporum, Epidermophyton and Trichophyton genera of dermatophytes. We compared the effects of individualized homeopathic medicines (IHMs) in fifty-millesimal (LM) potencies against placebo in TC.
METHODS: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, two parallel arms trial was conducted on 62 individuals suffering from TC at the National Institute of Homoeopathy, India. Participants were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either IHMs in LM potencies or identical-looking placebos fo

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: There has been a recent explosion in the incidence of dermatophytic infections globally, especially in tropical countries including India. This increase is associated with a change in the clinical pattern and mycological profile with poor response to treatment, in adults and children. Limited studies in India have focused on pediatric dermatophytoses. Our study's primary objective was to assess the clinicomycological profile of pediatric dermatophytosis in our region and secondarily to understand the association of lifestyle factors with poor response to treatment.

Dermatophytosis is the most common type of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes. Occasionally, the fungus invades deep into the dermis or other tissues, causing deep dermatophytosis. Deep dermatophytosis is often associated with Caspase Recruitment Domain-containing protein 9 (CARD9) deficiency in patients. Here, we report the first case of deep dermatophytosis with a rare mycosis fungoides manifestation caused by T. tonsurans in a patient with a novel mutation in exon 4 of CARD9. The condition presented with heterozygous K196E mutation, which leads to deficiency of innate and

Trichophyton tonsurans mostly causes tinea capitis and tinea corporis and often associates with outbreaks among combat sports athletes. Here, we report an outbreak of tinea capitis caused by T. tonsurans among five juvenile athletes in a wrestling team in Beijing, China. Scrapings from the lesions of the five patients were performed by direct microscopic examination and fungal culture. The fungal pathogens were all identified as T. tonsurans by morphology and sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. Multilocus genotyping analysis was performed by sequencing of 13 gene loci.

Objective Dermatophytoses, one of the most ancient diseases, is becoming a menace in recent times. This has made the knowledge of antifungal susceptibility a priority in today's times. Material and Methods This is a prospective study conducted over 18 months including all dermatophytes isolated during the period. Dermatophytes were identified by routine phenotypic methods. Antifungal susceptibility testing was performed for griseofulvin, terbinafine, and itraconazole as per the Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute M38 A2, and minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were read after 5 days.

Background: An increase in the number of recurrent and recalcitrant dermatophytoses calls for a tool to guide the clinician to correlate in vitro minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) data, antifungal treatment with clinical outcomes. This systematic review aims to explore a possible correlation between one aspect of this, previous antifungal exposure, and clinical outcomes. Methods: A systematic literature search for articles on previous antifungal treatment, treatment outcome, susceptibility methods used, organism (genus/species), and MIC values was conducted. Results: A total of 720 record

Background Dermatophytosis is a public health concern in tropical countries. In India, a scalable number of dermatophytosis cases from multiple states are reported. In the eastern part of India, very few studies were published assessing the clinicomycological profiles of patients. Hence, we conducted this study to ascertain the clinicomycological profile of patients suffering from dermatophytosis with special reference to associated socio-environmental factors. Materials and methods This cross-sectional observational study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital situated in Bihar state of In

BACKGROUND: Dermatophytosis is a common global superficial mycosis caused by a group of keratinophilic moulds known as dermatophytes that invade the skin and keratinized tissues such as hair and nails of humans and animals. This study takes identification of a collection of clinical dermatophyte isolates by using partial sequencing of translation elongation factor-1α (Tef-1α) gene aiming both to update the epidemiological status of dermatophytosis in Mashhad, Northeastern Iran and to corroborate the efficacy of Tef-1α for species-level identification of dermatophytes.
METHOD: The demographic

Data about the prevalence, diagnosis, treatment, and public knowledge of superficial fungal infections in the United States are scarce. These infections are a growing concern given the emergence of antifungal drug resistance. We analyzed data from a national survey of nearly 6000 U.S. adults. Overall, 114 (2.7%) participants reported having ringworm and 415 (10.0%) reported a fungal nail infection in the past 12 months; 61.4% of participants with any superficial fungal infection were self-diagnosed. Most patients (55.5%) used over-the-counter antifungals. The common nature of superficial funga

BACKGROUND: Analyses of the hereditary propensity to dermatophytosis have revealed several proven genetic relationships. They include CARD9 deficiency, HLA-DR4 and HLA-DR8 type and genes encoding interleukin-22, defensin 2 and 4, and genetic defects in dectin-1, which increased the prevalence of dermatophytosis in families and were involved in the inheritance of susceptibility in their members.
METHODS: To further investigate the genetic basis of dermatophytosis, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of the UK Biobank cohort. To identify cases of dermatophytosis, we used ICD10 c

Leprosy is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae with various clinical symptoms. Even though the incidence of leprosy has diminished in Saudi Arabia, it still has not been eliminated. We present two cases of leprosy from India residing in Saudi Arabia that were successfully managed with multidrug therapy. The first patient was a 33-year-old man with a history of enlarging erythematous patch and nose deformity on his face and upper and lower extremities started two years ago. The second patient was a 25-year-old man who presented with multiple hyperpigmented plaques on
