Leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) is a small vessel inflammatory condition considered to be caused by circulating immune complexes and often occurs after an acute infection or exposure to a new medication, although it may be associated with an underlying systemic disease or be idiopathic in nature. It is important to determine the etiology, identify the extent of the disease for early intervention and appropriate management, and treat and/or eliminate the underlying cause. Here, we report cases of scurvy and tinea corporis that presented with histopathologic features of LCV and had significant

Biologics, as IL17 inhibitors, are frequently prescribed for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Although mucocutaneous candida infections are a well-known side effect of IL-17 inhibitors, there is no data about dermatophyte infection under this therapy. Generalized tinea corporis can mimic the clinical picture of psoriasis, especially if concomitant treatment with topical corticosteroids is used. Therefore, physician should be aware of this differential diagnosis if they suspect a loss of efficacy of IL-17-inhibitors with a flare-up of psoriasis.

Dermatophytosis is a major health problem all over the world including Pakistan. This is the first report of detection of dermatophytes and their antifungal drug resistance in the Northern and Western parts of Pakistan. A total of 154 samples were collected from different hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and out of them 136 samples were found positive. Tinea corporis (35%) was the most predominant type of infection followed by Tinea capitis (22%). The fungi identified in Tinea corporis infection types were identified as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum

The number of Trichophyton quinckeanum infections has increased significantly in recent years. In 2020 in particular, the number of cases increased fivefold compared to 2015. Infections multiplied, especially in the second half of the year, which correlated with the upsurge in field mouse populations. Typical vectors are mice and rats as well as dogs and cats, which hunt the rodents. The animals are usually asymptomatic. In humans, on the other hand, the course is usually more inflammatory corresponding to other zoophilic mycoses. Typical clinical manifestations of the infections are tinea cor

Pathogens from the Trichophyton benhamiae complex are one of the most important causes of animal mycoses with significant zoonotic potential. In light of the recently revised taxonomy of this complex, we retrospectively identified 38 Trichophyton isolates that could not be resolved into any of the existing species. These strains were isolated from Iranian and Czech patients during molecular epidemiological surveys on dermatophytosis and were predominantly associated with highly inflammatory tinea corporis cases, suggesting possible zoonotic etiology. Subsequent phylogenetic (4 markers), popula

Trichophyton quinckeanum, a zoophilic dermatophyte mostly known as the causative agent of rodent favus, is relatively rarely reported to cause human infections. Indeed, no infections were detected in Czechia between 2012 and 2015 despite routine verification of species identification by ITS rDNA sequencing. By contrast, 25 human and 11 animal cases of infection were documented from December 2016 to December 2020 and the rates tended to grow every following year. Interestingly, most of the cases were reported in the Olomouc region, suggesting a local outbreak. We bring the evidence that human T

BACKGROUND: Chronic dermatophytosis refers to persistent or recurrent episodes of dermatophytosis lasting for more than 1 year despite adequate treatment with topical and systemic antifungal agents. The rise in the number of these cases is alarming over the past 5 to 6 years, and a thorough knowledge about the reasons for chronicity of dermatophytosis may go a long way in the treatment and prevention of this infection.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiology, various clinical types, and factors associated with chronicity in patients with chronic dermatop

Fungal infections are quite common in day-to-day practice. The available conventional treatments include various topical and systemic anti-pruritic and anti-fungal agents which are associated with high rates of treatment failure and adverse effects. Fungal infections manifest a great challenge to clinicians due to higher rate of recurrences and if not treated early, can lead to the development of more extensive diseases. In Ayurveda, this condition has resemblance with Dadru kustha. The characteristics of Dadrukustha are circumscribed erythematous, scaly plaques due to dematophytes infection.

BACKGROUND: Dermatophytosis is a common problem across the globe that is caused by a group of closely related fungi known as the dermatophytes that can invade keratinized tissues. It is a usual refractory infection and deleteriously affects the quality of life of humans. Despite the common presence of dermatophytes on the human host, research evidence in this area is limited.
OBJECTIVE: Aimed to assess the mycological profile and its associated factors among patients suspected of dermatophytosis at Bisidimo Hospital, Eastern Ethiopia, from March to October 2021.
METHODS: A cross-sectional st

Dear Editor, The chapter on mental, behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders of the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11) has been now finalized. Reporting of health statistics by Member States to the World Health Organization (WHO) using the new diagnostic system will begin in 2022. The section on mood disorders of the ICD-11 is overall consistent with the corresponding section of the ICD-10. However, the definitions of a depressive and a manic episode have been slightly changed, making them consistent with the DSM-5 (see below)

Tinea imbricata and tinea pseudoimbricata are variant types of tinea corporis characterized by annual-ring-shaped erythema. Although the skin lesions manifest similar symptoms, these two diseases are classified based on causative fungi. The former is caused by Trichophyton concentricum, an anthropophilic dermatophyte, and the latter is caused by dermatophytes other than T. concentricum, commonly zoophilic fungi such as Trichophyton mentagrophytes complex. Here, we report a 27-year-old Japanese male diagnosed with tinea pseudoimbricata attributed to Trichophyton tonsurans, an anthropophilic der

Dermatophytosis has attained unprecedented dimensions in recent years in India. Its clinical presentation is now multifarious, often with atypical morphology, severe forms and unusually extensive disease in all age groups. We hesitate to call it an epidemic owing to the lack of population-based prevalence surveys. In this part of the review, we discuss the epidemiology and clinical features of this contemporary problem. While the epidemiology is marked by a stark increase in the number of chronic, relapsing and recurrent cases, the clinical distribution is marked by a disproportionate rise in

Recalcitrant dermatophytic infections of the glabrous skin (tinea corporis/cruris/faciei) pose a huge challenge to health care systems. Combinations of oral and topical drugs may potentially improve cure rates, but the same has never been objectively assessed for this condition in laboratory or clinical studies. The present study was undertaken with the aim of identifying synergistic combinations of oral and topical antifungals by testing clinical isolates obtained from patients with recalcitrant tinea corporis/cruris. Forty-two patients with tinea corporis/cruris who had failed oral antifunga

This article reports on a patient suffering from terbinafine-resistant tinea corporis acquired in Asia. Trichophyton mentagrophytes type VIII was first isolated in India. In the past few years, it has gained clinical relevance by causing terbinafine-resistant tinea corporis and cruris. Therefore, in cases of recalcitrant tinea in persons returning from Asia, systemic itraconazole should be started. Specially formulated itraconazole enables high bioavailability despite lower dosage.
