The First Isolation of Multiple Antifungal-Drug-Resistant Trichophyton Rubrum in China and the Novel Resistance Mechanism.

OBJECTIVES: This study reports the first isolation of a multidrug-resistant Trichophyton rubrum strain in China, characterizing its drug resistance profile and mechanisms. METHODS: The isolate was identified by internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. In vitro antifungal susceptibility testing (AFST) was performed according to the M38-A3 CLSI guideline to determine minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against eight antifungals (terbinafine, itraconazole, fluconazole, amorolfine, griseofulvin, voriconazole, luliconazole and amphotericin B). Whole genome seque

Homeopathic Treatment Outcomes in Tinea Corporis and Tinea Cruris-A Multicentric, Open-Label, Prospective, Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dermatophytosis, particularly tinea corporis and tinea cruris, is a frequent superficial fungal infection, especially in tropical and humid regions. Conventional antifungal treatments, including topical or oral antifungals, may cause side effects, especially with long-term use. Increasing cases of recurrent dermatophytosis and antifungal resistance have prompted the exploration of alternative, safer treatment options. OBJECTIVES: The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of individualized homeopathic medicines (IHMs) for the treatment of tinea corporis and cruris. MATERIALS

Atypical Presentation of Rupioid-Like Tinea Corporis due to a Rare Nannizzia Incurvata Infection.

Tinea corporis, a superficial fungal skin infection of the trunk and extremities, typically presents as scaly, erythematous plaques with an active border. However, atypical presentations, especially those caused by uncommon dermatophytes, can complicate diagnosis. Here, we report an unusual case presenting with an oyster-like (rupioid) lesion on the right shoulder, a presentation not previously documented. Molecular analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA identified Nannizzia incurvata, a rare dermatophyte within the Nannizzia gypsea complex. The patient was s

SkinDisNet: A comprehensive dataset of clinical images and metadata for skin disease detection and classification.

Skin diseases are considered among the most important health problems worldwide, affecting millions of people. Early diagnosis can prevent complications and therefore improve the outcomes for patients. However, accurate diagnosis can be challenging due to the visual similarity of different conditions, variability in symptoms, and the shortage of region-specific annotated datasets for developing robust machine learning models. To bridge the gap, this paper presents a new dataset that aims to further the field of skin disease detection through machine learning and computer vision techniques. The

Tinea corporis instigating emergency caesarean delivery.

Tinea corporis is a common fungal infection of the skin, which can affect women of childbearing age. We present a case of tinea corporis that resulted in an emergency caesarean delivery under general anaesthesia due to difficulties with pain management intrapartum. Epidural anaesthesia was contraindicated due to the location of the rash over the lumbar region. This would have been preventable with early treatment. This case highlights the need to diagnose, investigate and treat skin conditions promptly in pregnancy.

Incidental Detection of Bowen's Disease in a Patient Presenting With Dermatophytosis: A Case Report of Two Distinct Back Lesions.

Bowen's disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ) is an intraepidermal malignancy that can clinically resemble benign inflammatory or infectious dermatoses. The coexistence of dermatophytosis and Bowen's disease can make diagnosis challenging. A 60-year-old man presented with itchy, scaly lesions on the upper back, clinically consistent with tinea corporis. Examination also revealed a separate dark plaque with well-defined borders, distinct from the dermatophytic lesions. Dermoscopy showed eccentric glomerular vessels with brown pigmentation, raising suspicion for Bowen's disease. The fungal i

Recalcitrant dermatophytosis: clinicomycological features and challenges in management.

INTRODUCTION: Dermatophytosis is the most common fungal infection encountered by primary care providers and outpatient physicians. In recent years, new patient populations with chronic infections - accompanied by a history of recurrences and relapses - presenting with unusual or severe manifestations have been reported worldwide. This is broadly referred to as recalcitrant dermatophytosis. AREAS COVERED: Through an electronic literature search spanning the last 25 years, we discuss systemic treatment options for recalcitrant dermatophytosis, including conventional terbinafine and itraconazole

[Rise of Trichophyton tonsurans in the period from 2008-2024 from a laboratory perspective-an emerging pathogen in Germany].

Trichophyton (T.) tonsurans is an anthropophilic dermatophyte known as 'mat fungus' among wrestlers. Dermatomycoses caused by this pathogen have recently been diagnosed more frequently in Germany. A new route of infection is the transmission of T. tonsurans in barbershops. In this article, the laboratory diagnostic detection of T. tonsurans is assessed. Skin and hair samples, preferably from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia and from all over Germany, were analysed. The mycological detection of T. tonsurans from skin scales, hair roots and swabs were based on culture methods. From 2011, diag

Turkish Bath-Associated Infectious Dermatoses: A Comprehensive Review of Risk Factors, Clinical Manifestations, and Preventive Measures.

People have used the traditional Turkish bath for centuries to cleanse themselves, maintain their health, and treat various diseases. The communal use of these areas may contribute to the development and spread of certain dermatoses due to contact with water and environmental factors. Tinea pedis, verruca, molluscum contagiosum, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis are among these infections. Undoubtedly, pseudomonal infections are the most well-known waterborne infectious diseases. Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis (hot tub folliculitis), Pseudomonas hot-foot syndrome, toe web infections

Oral isotretinoin for the treatment of dermatologic conditions other than acne: a case series.

Dermatophyte infections, also known as tinea, along with viral warts, are common skin conditions that can be difficult to treat, especially when they recur or resist standard therapies. Isotretinoin, a medication traditionally used for acne, has recently shown promise as an adjuvant therapy for these conditions. This retrospective case-series study included 4 adult patients with persistent or recurrent tinea infections (tinea cruris and tinea corporis) or viral warts (genital and facial) who were treated with oral isotretinoin in addition to standard therapies. The patients' demographics, clin

Clinical Insights of Kaposi's Varicelliform Eruption Associated with Underlying Primary Dermatoses- A Case Series from Hadoti Region of Rajasthan.

Eczema Herpeticum (EH) or Kaposi's Varicelliform eruption (KVE) is a severe viral infection that occurs when herpes simplex virus infects an inflamed skin, most often occurring in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) or other inflammatory skin conditions. To discern various primary dermatoses in which KVE occurred and to study the clinical features, course, and response to specific antiviral treatment along with a course of the primary dermatoses during the episode of KVE. Data was collected in the Dermatology Out-patient department of a tertiary care center in Northern India from December 201

First reported Canadian case of Trichophyton mentagrophytes genotype VII infection among men who have sex with men (MSM).

Over the past 20 years, Trichophyton mentagrophytes (T. mentagrophytes) infections affecting the genital and pubic regions, with suspected sexual transmission, have been increasingly reported in South Asia and Europe. The first case in the United States was reported in 2024. We describe the first confirmed case of T. mentagrophytes genotype VII infection causing Majocchi granuloma in a Canadian male who had recently travelled to Mexico, with suspected sexual transmission. Raising awareness among healthcare professionals is critical for early diagnosis and preventing long-term sequelae. Tinea c

Towards a Thermodynamical Deep-Learning-Vision-Based Flexible Robotic Cell for Circular Healthcare.

PURPOSE: Patients with lipomyelomeningocele (LMMC) represent a unique population within the spectrum of spinal dysraphism. The natural history of LMMC remains poorly defined. The description and prevalence of the presenting orthopaedic clinical signs and symptoms for LMMC have been infrequent and often documented only in general terms. The goal of this study is to define the patterns and prevalence of presenting clinical musculoskeletal signs and symptoms in LMMC patients. METHODS: This study was a retrospective review of charts of all patients identified as having LMMC in our spina bifida cl

Myriad presentations of cutaneous tuberculosis: A case series from a rural tertiary hospital.

Cutaneous tuberculosis (CTB), a rare extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis (TB), often mimics other dermatological conditions, leading to diagnostic delays and prolonged morbidity1. This case series presents seven patients with varied CTB manifestations initially misdiagnosed as sarcoidosis, tinea corporis, actinomycosis, and Hansen's disease. Final diagnoses were established through clinical evaluation, histopathology, and therapeutic response to anti-tubercular therapy (ATT). The role of cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test (CBNAAT) was also explored where feasible2. All pa

Beyond Elimination: Unveiling Leprosy Cases in Far West Nepal.

Leprosy, one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), can be diagnosed based on any of its three characteristics: a hypopigmented or reddish skin patch with sensory loss, thickened peripheral nerves with sensory impairment, and a positive skin smear for acid-fast bacilli (AFB). In this article, we present two cases: a 30-year-old male misdiagnosed with Tinea corporis infection for a year before being correctly diagnosed with borderline tuberculoid leprosy via biopsy, and an 18-year-old male who discontinued multidrug therapy (MDT) due to stigma and later presented with a type 2 lepra reactio

Deep Learning for Diagnosis of Tinea Corporis and Tinea Cruris.

BACKGROUND: Tinea corporis and tinea cruris are frequently misdiagnosed, and studies utilizing deep learning for their diagnosis remain scarce. OBJECTIVES: This study primarily aimed to develop a deep learning model trained on images from diverse clinical settings to distinguish dermatophytosis from non-dermatophytosis. A secondary objective was to compare its diagnostic performance with that of physicians. METHODS: This retrospective diagnostic study analyzed clinical images of dermatophytosis (tinea corporis/cruris) and non-dermatophytosis (eczema, psoriasis, and lichen planus). Dermatophy

The combined effect of IL-6 and hypoxia increases KLK4 gene expression in colon cancer cells via STAT-3 activation.

BACKGROUND: After undergoing kidney transplant surgery, patients face many new challenges. For example, they face new pathologies associated with the complex medical regimens that they will need to follow rigorously for the rest of their lives. They live with the uncertainty and fear of organ rejection. They will also need to acquire new skills to take care of themselves, such as recognizing the signs and symptoms of impending infection and rejection. This suggests that once a transplant has been performed and the patient has been discharged with a functioning graft, the patient must continue

[Trichophyton mentagrophytes genotype VII increasingly causes anogenital infections].

In the course of globalization, migration and global warming, we are increasingly confronted with pathogens that do not occur naturally in our latitudes or appear in a different form. We know keratinophilic dermatophytes as the cause of tinea pedis, onychomycosis and also tinea corporis and capitis. Transmission usually occurs via domestic or farm animals and via autoinoculation. In recent years dermatophytes have gained additional importance as a possible sexually transmitted disease between immunocompetent persons. For the first time, dermatophytosis was described as a sexually transmitted i
