OBJECTIVES: Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic inflammatory condition involving mainly the genital area with an undetermined aetiology. Recent studies show that in up to 34% of cases in adult women, VLS coexists with allergies or autoimmune diseases like celiac disease (CD), among others. However, literature data relating strictly to the co-occurrence of celiac disease and Duhring's disease (DH) in patients with VLS are very limited.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In our study, we sought to clarify the possible relationship between vulvar lichen sclerosus in adult women and celiac disease in i

Untreated vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) can have a significant negative impact on quality of life, increase the risk of neoplastic transformation, and lead to irreversible architectural changes. Early and appropriate management using ultrapotent topical steroids is crucial to alleviate symptoms and prevent long-term complications. This study aimed to characterize clinical signs and architectural changes of 364 VLS patients at a tertiary center. The majority of the patients had sought care from ≥1 provider previously, were referred by a physician, had undergone prior vulvar biopsies, and had pr

OBJECTIVES: This case series aims to evaluate the demographic features, disease characteristics, and treatment outcomes of 8 patients receiving subcutaneous (SC) adalimumab for severe, refractory vulval lichen sclerosus (VLS) and/or vulval lichen planus (VLP). Both conditions are chronic inflammatory dermatoses that significantly impair quality of life, and although first-line treatment typically involves potent to ultrapotent topical corticosteroids, managing severe cases is challenging due to a lack of FDA-approved systemic therapies. Adalimumab, a TNF-α inhibitor, may offer a promising alte

BACKGROUND: Although topical corticosteroids (TCS) represent first-line treatment for vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) and as such should be prescribed to all women at time of diagnosis, approximately 30% of patients do not experience complete symptom resolution following such treatment. TCS may not effectively improve vulvar trophism and elasticity, both of which are crucial for sexual function. Owing to its regenerative and healing properties, cord blood platelet-rich plasma (CB-PRP) may represent an efficacious supplementary therapy, to be administered following first line treatment with TCS.

Vulvar cancer, particularly squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its complex presentation and high rates of postoperative complications. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach, integrating the expertise of gynecologic oncologists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other specialists. This review highlights the dermatologist's role in supporting early diagnosis, addressing predisposing conditions such as lichen sclerosus, and managing postoperative wound complications, including surgical site infections

Vulvar cancer is an uncommon malignancy in reproductive-aged women, and its occurrence during pregnancy is rare. This report presents a case of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) diagnosed perioperatively in a 35-year-old pregnant woman. The patient was incidentally found to have lichen sclerosis and a suspicious vulvar lesion during an emergency cesarean section. Biopsy confirmed VSCC, and subsequent management involved a simple vulvectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and local advancement flap reconstruction. Histopathological examination revealed clear margins and no lymph node involveme

Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a frequently overlooked inflammatory disorder affecting the skin and mucous membranes of the vulva. With a propensity for atrophy, severe scarring, functional impairment, and malignant evolution, VLS is a disease that recurs frequently; early diagnosis, rapid treatment, and ongoing patient follow-up are essential. Potent topical corticosteroids (TCSs) are now widely recognized as the most effective treatment for achieving remission in VLS, but considering the potential complications of long-term treatment with potent TCSs, understanding the evolution of VLS dur

We undertook a retrospective observational review of patients referred to a tertiary dermatology department with vulval complaints over 12 months. The most common provisional diagnoses made by the referrer and final dermatology diagnoses were lichen sclerosus (54% and 38%), dermatitis (12.7% and 16.5%) and psoriasis (5.1% and 6.3%). Referrers may benefit from further education about skin diseases of the vulva, topical steroids for vulval complaints and the importance of clinical photography.

BACKGROUND: Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic remitting condition that affects the genital skin of females of all ages. Although qualitative studies have been conducted that have focused on women with VLS in mid-life or beyond, less is known about the experiences of individuals with VLS from childhood or adolescence onward.
OBJECTIVES: To gain an understanding of the experiences of women with a history of juvenile VLS (JVLS) with regard to the impact of the disease on their personal lives, and their experiences and needs regarding care and guidance.
METHODS: A qualitative study was

Vulval lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic dermatological condition affecting the anogenital area, causing intense itching, pain and bleeding. It can change the terrain of the vulva, causing loss of vulval anatomy and altered texture and appearance of the skin. There has been little research into how women experience the materialities of a dermatological vulval disease. We aimed to understand experiences of living with LS, using a feminist lens to examine the influence of societal attitudes towards women's bodies and the vulva. We conducted qualitative interviews with 20 women with vulval LS, t
