Invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma of the cervix: A case report and review of the literature.

Invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma (ISMC) is a rare, recently described subtype of HPV-associated cervical adenocarcinoma. It shows varied morphological patterns, making it difficult to diagnose, especially the mixed forms. A 57-year-old female, P7L7, presented with postmenopausal bleeding for the past five months. On per-vaginal examination, a friable cervical growth was noted. Microscopic examination of the cervical biopsy showed an invasive tumor composed of nests of stratified columnar cells with peripheral palisading and a variable amount of (alcian blue-positive) intracytoplas

Primary Ovarian Leiomyoma with Torsion in a Postmenopausal Woman: A Rare Case with Progesterone Receptor Positivity.

Ovarian leiomyomas are rare benign smooth muscle tumors, accounting for <1% of all ovarian neoplasms. While most commonly found in premenopausal women, their occurrence in postmenopausal women is rare and often raises concerns about malignancy. We report a unique case of ovarian leiomyoma torsion in a 73-year-old postmenopausal woman who presented with postmenopausal bleeding and acute pelvic pain. Imaging studies initially suggested an ovarian mass and surgical exploration revealed a twisted mass, which was histologically confirmed as a leiomyoma. Immunohistochemical analysis of the tumor dem

Reduced healthcare access contributes to delay of care in endometrial cancer.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to characterize delays to care in patients with endometrioid endometrial cancer and the role healthcare access plays in these delays. METHODS: A chart review was performed of patients with endometrioid endometrial cancer who presented with postmenopausal bleeding at a diverse, urban medical center between 2006 and 2018. The time from symptom onset to treatment was abstracted from the medical record. This interval was subdivided to assess for delay to presentation, delay to diagnosis, and delay to treatment. RESULTS: We identified 484 patients who met the inclusion criteri

Clinical and Histopathological Characteristics in Women With Postmenopausal Bleeding: A Study of 120 Women in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Punjab.

Background Postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) is defined as blood loss from the genital tract occurring 12 months or more after an individual's last menstrual period. It is important for women to recognize abnormal symptoms during menopause, with PMB being one of the most critical. PMB is a common clinical presentation and can be indicative of endometrial carcinoma. A thorough clinical assessment and endometrial histopathology can ensure early diagnosis and treatment of malignancy in high-risk patients. Materials and Methods This study included 120 women with PMB. Their clinical and histopathologic

Leydig tumor in normal sized ovaries causing clitoromegaly: A case report.

We describe an unusual presentation of a rare Leydig tumor presenting in bilateral ovaries that are otherwise normal in size for postmenopausal women. A 66-year-old woman presented with postmenopausal bleeding and during her work-up acutely developed clitoromegaly. Her diagnostic work-up revealed a 1.8 cm left ovarian complex cyst and extremely elevated testosterone levels. Management included hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Final pathology revealed Leydig tumors in the bilateral ovaries. This case discusses a rare presentation of a rare tumor and highlights the importance of

Analysis of Characteristics of Endometrial Carcinoma in Peri- and Postmenopausal Women with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the menstrual characteristics of endometrial carcinoma and investigate whether abnormal uterine bleeding in the perimenopausal period differs from postmenopausal bleeding. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 928 cases of endometrial carcinoma in patients admitted from January 2016 to December 2022. We gathered fundamental clinical data and analyzed distinct clinical risk factors between the perimenopausal and postmenopausal groups. Furthermore, we computed the statistical variances in menarche, regular menstrual cycles, and the duration of abnormal uterine

A clinicopathological study about the epidemiology of granulosa cell tumors in Lebanon.

BACKGROUND: Granulosa Cell Tumors (GCT) are considered the most frequent type of sex-cord stromal tumors. These tumors constitute 3-6% of neoplasms of the ovaries. GCTs are divided into 2 types: Juvenile GCT (JGCT) and Adult GCT (AGCT). Most patients are diagnosed early in the course of the disease and tend to have a favorable prognosis. In the surgical treatment of GCT, two main factors play role in the determination of feasibility of the surgery: age and tumor stage. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 65 consecutive female patients diagnosed with ovarian GCT at different hospit

A rare case of rectovaginal squamous cell carcinoma in a postmenopausal woman.

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the rectovaginal septum is rare, with only a few previous cases being reported. We present a case of a 55-year-old woman with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the rectovaginal septum, which was discovered after 2 months of postmenopausal bleeding. Her imaging, surgical course, pathology and treatment course are presented here. To our knowledge, this is only the third such reported case in the literature and management underscores the need for multidisciplinary involvement.

Malakoplakia of the Endometrium: A Rare Unexpected Disease Raising Clinical Concern for Malignancy.

Malakoplakia is a rare disease that manifests as a histiocytic inflammatory process and most often occurs in the urinary bladder. It is caused by an impaired capacity of histiocytes to kill and digest bacteria. The typical histopathologic findings are sheets of histiocytes with granular eosinophilic cytoplasm and characteristic Michaelis-Gutmann bodies, spherical bodies with a targetoid appearance. Malakoplakia is even rarer in the gynecologic tract, and our literature search found only 21 published patients of malakoplakia involving the endometrium. Here we report a 60-year-old female patient

Recurrent postmenopausal bleeding: Pathological findings and predictive factors. A multicenter, prospective, observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Recurrent postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) occurs in 6%-25% of postmenopausal women who have experienced a previous episode of PMB. The question of whether recurrent PMB leads to a higher risk of endometrial cancer (EC) in comparison to a single episode of PMB is, however, controversial. Furthermore, little is known about predictive factors for recurrent PMB. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted over a 5-year period in four hospitals in the Netherlands. Women with PMB undergoing endometrial sampling and aged 40 years and older were included. Oc

We report the case of a 53-year-old female who developed tracheobronchomalacia immediately following an uncomplicated robotic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy to treat postmenopausal bleeding. Induction of anesthesia was notable for moderately difficult intubation, managed with applied cricothyroid pressure and a small 6.5 endotracheal tube placement via GlideScope. The surgical course was uneventful. The patient remained intubated in the post-anesthesia care unit but was not providing end-tidal volumes.
