Uterine leiomyomas or fibroids are benign tumors of the myometrium that affect approximately 70% of reproductive-age women. Fibroids continue to be the leading cause of hysterectomy, resulting in substantial healthcare costs. Genetic complexity and lack of cellular and molecular understanding of fibroids have posed considerable challenges to developing noninvasive treatment options. Over the years, research efforts have intensified to unravel the genetic and cellular diversities within fibroids to deepen our understanding of their origins and progression. Studies using immunostaining and flow

BACKGROUND Leiomyomas are common benign uterine tumors (BUMTs) with diverse histopathological subtypes and variable clinical presentations. While most are asymptomatic, some cause significant morbidity, including abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, and pain. Hydropic leiomyomas (HLMs) are rare variants histopathologically characterized by zonal edema and may pose diagnostic challenges, particularly when located in atypical sites such as the retroperitoneal space. This report presents a case of a retroperitoneal HLM with strong expression of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and its receptor (AM

BACKGROUND: Traumatic separation of the cervix from the body of the uterus is exceedingly rare, particularly as a complication of pelvic fractures. This condition often poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, especially in patients with primary infertility and endometriosis. Fertility preservation in such cases is seldom reported, and effective surgical management remains clinically controversial.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 28-year-old East Asian Chinese woman with a history of severe pelvic trauma that resulted in complete separation of the cervix from the bo

Introduction: A new surgical treatment method for absolute uterine infertility is uterus transplantation. We performed cadaver surgeries in preparation for human deceased donor uterus transplantation. Objective: The objective of the surgeries was to identify anatomical structures, to demonstrate the steps of graft retrieval, and to practice the collaboration of the medical staff as a team. Method: With the approval of the ethical committee, respecting the mercy and personal rights of the deceased, we dissected the ureter from its entry into the minor pelvis, also dissected the parietal and vis

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent chronic inflammatory syndrome characterized by viable endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity and associated with pain and infertility. Endometriosis, as tissue or a pathological process, is dynamic in that its establishment and progression require repeated episodes of retrograde travel of shed endometrial tissue, which implants in the lower abdominal cavity following ovulatory cycles and survives. Estrogen-rich follicular fluid released onto peritoneal surfaces during ovulation may also support endometriotic implants. DNA evidence indicates that en

ABSTRACT: Over the past 30 years, the number of new cases of uterine leiomyomas (UL) in women of reproductive age has increased by 67.14% worldwide. The limitations of the current therapeutic options have led to the search for alternatives. Myrianthus arboreus P. Beauv., used for infertility and tumors, has never been tested for UL. In the present study, the decoction of its stem bark was evaluated in a model of UL induced in female Wistar rats. Animals were treated once daily by gavage for 30 days. Normal control and model groups received distilled water, positive groups received mifepristone

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disorder characterized by progressive fibrosis, which is closely associated with clinical symptoms such as dysmenorrhea and infertility. While myofibroblast activation is central to fibrogenesis, the cellular origins and regulatory mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study demonstrates that the macrophage-myofibroblast transition (MMT) is a novel source of myofibroblasts in endometriosis and is regulated by the TGFB1/SMAD3 signaling pathway. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, we identified a distinct subpopulation of CD68+ macrophages co-expr

Background: Asherman's syndrome (AS) is a dreadful gynecological disorder of the uterus characterized by intrauterine adhesion with severe fibrotic lesions, resulting in a damaged basalis layer with infertility. Despite extensive research on overcoming AS, evidence-based effective and reproducible treatments to improve the structural and functional morphology of the AS endometrium have not been established. Methods: Endometrial organoids generated from human or mouse endometrial tissues were transplanted into the uterine cavity of a murine model of AS to evaluate their transplantable feasibili

Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) stands as a prevalent medical condition characterized by endometrial fibrosis and scar tissue formation within the uterine cavity, resulting in infertility and, in severe cases, recurrent miscarriages. Cell therapy, especially with stem cells, offers an alternative to surgery, but concerns about uncontrolled differentiation and tumorigenicity limit its use. Exosomes, more stable and immunogenicity-reduced than parent cells, have emerged as a promising avenue for IUA treatment. In this study, a novel approach has been proposed wherein exosomes originating from decidu

The prevalence of infertility caused by endometrial defects is steadily increasing, posing a significant challenge to women's reproductive health. In this study, injectable "homing-like" bioactive decellularized extracellular matrix short-fibers (DEFs) of porcine skin origin are innovatively designed for endometrial and fertility restoration. The DEFs can effectively bind to endometrial cells through noncovalent dipole interactions and release bioactive growth factors in situ. In vitro, the DEFs effectively attracted endometrial cells through the "homing-like" effect, enabling cell adhesion, s

Endometriosis is a medical condition affecting at least up to 10% of women of reproductive age. This condition occurs when ectopic endometrial glands and stroma implant outside the uterus and there are several theories regarding the underlying origins of the disease. Endometriosis is one of the major causes of severe dysmenorrhoea, chronic pelvic pain and infertility. While endometriosis is generally a non-malignant condition, it rarely may transform into an invasive cancer, and increase the risk for epithelial ovarian cancer, notably endometrioid or clear cell ovarian cancer. Despite the incr

BACKGROUND: The establishment and maintenance of pregnancy depend on endometrial competence. Asherman syndrome (AS) and intrauterine adhesions (IUA), or endometrial atrophy (EA) and thin endometrium (TE), can either originate autonomously or arise as a result from conditions (i.e. endometritis or congenital hypoplasia), or medical interventions (e.g. surgeries, hormonal therapies, uterine curettage or radiotherapy). Affected patients may present an altered or inadequate endometrial lining that hinders embryo implantation and increases the risk of poor pregnancy outcomes and miscarriage. In hum

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent and progesterone-resistant gynecological inflammatory disease of reproductive-age women. Progesterone resistance, loss of progesterone receptor -B (PR-B) in the stromal cells of the endometrium, is one of the hallmarks of endometriosis and a major contributing factor for infertility in endometriosis patients. Loss of PR-B in the stromal cells of the endometriotic lesions poses resistance to the success of progesterone-based therapy. The working hypothesis is that PR-B is hypermethylated and epigenetically silenced, and inhibition of AKT and ERK1/2 pathway

STUDY QUESTION: Do women with endometriosis who achieve a live birth (LB) after HRT-frozen embryo transfer (HRT-FET) have different progesterone levels on the day of transfer compared to unaffected women?
SUMMARY ANSWER: In women achieving a LB after HRT-FET, serum progesterone levels on the day of the transfer did not differ between patients with endometriosis and unaffected patients.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: In HRT-FET, several studies have highlighted the correlation between serum progesterone levels at the time of FET and LB rates. In the pathophysiology of endometriosis, progesterone resi

Approximately 60% of patients undergoing Cesarean sections may develop Cesarean Scar Defect (CSD), presenting a significant clinical challenge amidst the increasing Cesarean section rates. This condition, marked by a notch in the anterior uterine wall, has evolved as a notable topic in gynecological research. The multifactorial origins of CSD can be broadly classified into labor-related factors, patients' physical conditions, and surgical quality. However, conflicting influences of certain factors across studies make it challenging to determine effective preventive strategies. Additionally, CS

Uterus transplantation is the surgical treatment for absolute uterine factor infertility (AUFI), a congenital or acquired condition characterized by the absence of a uterus. More than 80 transplants have been performed worldwide, resulting in more than 30 live births, originating both from living and deceased donors. The collection of published articles on deceased donor uterus transplantations was performed in PubMed and SCOPUS by searching for the terms "Uterus transplantation" AND "deceased donor"; from the 107 articles obtained, only case reports and systematic reviews of deceased donor ut
