The published literature has focused mainly on the efficacy of tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) in correcting stress incontinence with few reports of complications. We report our experience with the first 52 cases of TVT, specifically assessing voiding dysfunction after the procedure. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk factors involved in failed vaginal hysterectomies.
METHODS: Data on all vaginal hysterectomies performed by a single gynecologic surgeon were collected prospectively. Patients requiring pelvic floor repair were excluded. Any procedure converted to the abdominal approach was classified as a failed vaginal hysterectomy and comprised the study group. For every woman who had a failed vaginal hysterectomy, the next 2 women who had successful vaginal hysterectomies immediately after the failed vaginal hysterectomy were taken as controls.

The object was to assess the incidence of complications in patients who had undergone the tension-free vaginal tape procedure and their management. A total of 274 women 28-80 years old (mean: 55.1) with a minimum follow-up of 6 months were included in the study. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In about 10% of patients with carcinoma of the colorectum, the tumour has already invaded contiguous organs or else inflammatory tumorous adhesions involving neighbouring structures are found. In such a situation, the question arises whether one should perform a multivisceral resection, the usefulness of which in terms of surgical risk and late oncological results have been investigated in the present study.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 173 patients with colorectal carcinoma who underwent a multivisceral resection during the period between 1984 and 1995 are reported.
