Early abdominal wall ectopic pregnancy treated with laparoscopic surgery: A case report and literature review.

The abdominal wall is a rare site of ectopic implantation. Laparoscopic surgery for early abdominal pregnancy, in contrast to its use for tubal ectopic pregnancy, remains controversial because of concerns regarding heavy bleeding at the implantation site. Treatment of early abdominal pregnancy must be individualized for each implantation site. Herein, we present a case of an early abdominal pregnancy implanted in the anterior abdominal wall that was successfully treated with laparoscopic surgery. A 28-year-old multiparous woman with a 6-week amenorrhea presented with acute abdominal pain. An e

A delayed spontaneous second-trimester tubo-abdominal pregnancy diagnosed and managed by laparotomy in a "self-identified" infertile woman, a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Abdominal pregnancy, a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, is associated with high morbidity and adverse consequences for future fertility. Early recognition and management reduce mortality and allow minimal invasive and conservative treatment. In modern medicine, primitive prevention to unexpected fatal pregnancies is crucial. CASE PRESENTATION: A divorced 33-year-old "self-identified" infertile polycystic ovary woman diagnosed as repeated implantation failure in previous in vitro fertilization with her ex-husband ever presented in surgery department with a history of 15-day abdomina

Advanced abdominal ectopic pregnancy and the role of antenatal ultrasound scan in its diagnosis and management.

Abdominal pregnancy is a very rare form of ectopic gestation in which implantation occurs in the peritoneal cavity. It accounts for about 1% of all ectopic pregnancies and is associated with a higher risk of morbidity and mortality due to complications such as preeclampsia, placenta abruption, and oligohydromnios, which necessitate pregnancy termination before term, and the risk of massive hemorrhage associated with abnormal placentation. We present a case of advanced abdominal ectopic pregnancy, diagnosed in the second trimester and complicated by anhydramnios. An abdominal ultrasound scan sh

Primary omental ectopic pregnancy: A rare case report.

Primary abdominal pregnancy is the rarest form of ectopic pregnancy in which the fertilized ovum is directly implanted into peritoneal cavity. This condition poses significantly high risk of maternal morbidity and mortality. Here, we present a case of 5 weeks of primary omental pregnancy managed by laparotomy.

Case Report of an exceptional spontaneous abdominal heterotopic pregnancy with superfetation: Diagnosis and treatment: Heterotopic pregnancy with superfetation (8+1 WG & 5+4 WG).

Heterotopic pregnancy is an extremely rare condition in which an intrauterine and an extrauterine pregnancy co-exist. In spontaneous conceptions, heterotopic pregnancy occurs in only 1/30 000 pregnancies. The treatment of heterotopic pregnancy must be as minimally invasive as possible to preserve the development of the intrauterine pregnancy. Superfetation, defined as the coexistence of 2 or more foetuses of different gestational ages, remains particularly exceptional and poorly explained (second ovulation? embryonic diapause?). Here, we present an extremely rare case of a spontaneous heteroto

A rare case of a live abdominal pregnancy in a woman with subsequent gestation in utero.

This report concerns now 40-year-old healthy woman who was born alive and healthy from an ectopic pregnancy in the abdominal cavity, with placental localization on the omentum. This was a historical case report 40 years ago, as at that time doctors had little information about similar case in the world. Even today, in the era of modern medicine, we find only rare cases where a child developed outside the uterine cavity is born healthy and without developmental deformities. The mother subsequently had a normal intrauterine pregnancy 2 years later, ending with a caesarean section and the birth o

Nontubal ectopic pregnancies: overview of diagnosis and treatment.

Nontubal ectopic pregnancies occur as a result of embryo implantation outside the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. Sites include ovary, cervix, abdominal cavity, interstitial portion of fallopian tube, and cesarean scar. Nontubal pregnancies are uncommon. Nonspecific signs and symptoms of nontubal ectopic pregnancies make diagnosis challenging and, in many cases, significantly delayed, resulting in a high rate of morbidity. Although surgical management remains the mainstay of treatment, there is growing evidence that some of these can be managed medically or with the use of a combination of

Abdominal ectopic pregnancy.

An ectopic pregnancy (EP) accounts for 1-2% of all pregnancies, of which 90% implant in the fallopian tube. An abdominal ectopic pregnancy (AEP) is defined as an ectopic pregnancy occurring when the gestational sac is implanted in the peritoneal cavity outside the uterine cavity or the fallopian tube. Implantation sites may include the omentum, peritoneum of the pelvic and abdominal cavity, the uterine surface and abdominal organs such as the spleen, intestine, liver and blood vessels. Primary abdominal pregnancy results from fertilisation of the ovum in the abdominal cavity and secondary occu

Sonographic findings of complete tubal abortion.

Ectopic pregnancies, implantation of a fertilized ovum in any location other than within the endometrial cavity, occur in 1-2% of all pregnancies. Despite current enhanced early diagnosis enabled by serum beta-human choriogonadotropin (hCG) levels and high-resolution ultrasound, this clinical entity continues to account for between 2.7 and 6% of all maternal deaths. The most common site of ectopic implantation is the Fallopian tube (>90% of cases), and less commonly in previous Cesarean scar, ovary, cervix, or the abdomen. Complete tubal abortion refers to a tubal pregnancy having been expelle

A case report of dangerous pelvic infundibulum ligament in the second trimester of pregnancy with massive hemorrhage.

RATIONALE: Abdominal pregnancy is a rare ectopic pregnancy and its diagnosis and treatment are more challenging than those of other ectopic pregnancies. Because of a variable pregnancy site, abdominal pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of fatal abdominal hemorrhage, and consequently, an increased risk of maternal death compared with intrauterine pregnancy. DIAGNOSES: Pelvic infundibulum ligament pregnancy complicated with massive hemorrhage. PATIENT CONCERNS: 42-year-old pregnant woman who did not undergo an obstetric examination during the first trimester presented with sudden a

Abdominal pregnancy with a live newborn in a low-resource setting: A case report.

Abdominal pregnancy is defined as pregnancy anywhere within the peritoneal cavity, exclusive of tubal, ovarian, or broad ligament locations. It is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy with high morbidity and mortality for both the mother and the fetus. Diagnosis can be frequently missed in low-resource settings because of poor antenatal healthcare provision, low socioeconomic patient status as well as lack of adequate medical resources. Clinical diagnosis can be difficult and ultrasound scan is helpful during the early stages of gestation but can be disappointing thereafter. A case of abdominal pr

Abdominal pregnancy secondary to uterine horn pregnancy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy begins with a fertilized ovum that normally attaches to the uterine endometrium. However, an ectopic pregnancy can occur when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterine cavity. Tubal ectopic pregnancy is the most common type (over 95%), with ovarian, abdominal, cervical, broad ligament, and uterine cornual pregnancy being less common. As more cases of ectopic pregnancy are diagnosed and treated in the early stages, the survival rate and fertility retention significantly improve. However, complications of abdominal pregnancy can sometimes be life-threatening a

A Rare and Unique Case Report of Lateral Uterine Wall Rupture and Its Review.

Rupture of the uterus is a deadly obstetric complication. Its occurrence is uncommon and much less common in the second trimester. Given that the mother and fetus are in danger, it is a catastrophe for both. The incidence has increased in recent years as the cesarean section rate has increased, but in developing nations, multiparity and the inappropriate use of uterotonics are more common. This potentially disastrous event may have a vague initial presentation. Here forth, we present a case with solitary right lateral wall uterine rupture covering the entire length of the uterus, the fetus and

Broad ligament ectopic pregnancy at 18 weeks: diagnosis and management in a resource-limited setting (a case report).

Broad ligament ectopic pregnancy is a relatively rare condition described in the literature. We did not find enough data concerning this subject in Cameroon. It is therefore important to know about its existence because late management can lead to increased maternal mortality. This paper reports the case of a 22-year-old lady at 18 weeks gestation who had generalized abdominal pain for two months. Prior to her arrival at our service, an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound done revealed a viable singleton 18-weeks intra-abdominal pregnancy with a moderate amount of abdominal fluid collection. Large unruptured tubal pregnancy mimicking abdominal pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy accounts for 1-2% of all pregnancies. Ultrasound is the primary diagnostic tool to locate pregnancy outside the uterus and identify complications such as haemoperitoneum. In inconclusive cases, MRI is an adjunctive imaging modality offering more precise tissue differentiation and helpful to location identification. Presented is an unusual case of tubal pregnancy. The patient in her 30s, who was 14 weeks into her first pregnancy, had a suspected abdominal pregnancy. Both transabdominal ultrasound and an MRI indicated an ectopic pregnancy, likely originating from the right fall

Ectopic Pregnancy in the Round Ligament Following Bilateral Salpingectomy: A Case Report.

Ectopic pregnancies, characterized by the implantation of a fertilized ovum outside the uterine cavity, typically occur in the fallopian tubes. However, rare cases have been reported where implantation occurs in atypical locations. Round ligament pregnancy, a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, poses significant risks and can lead to life-threatening complications. This case report describes the presentation and management of a 31-year-old gravida four, para two (G4P2012) female who presented with acute left lower quadrant and pelvic pain. The patient's medical history included a prior bilateral s

Heterotopic pregnancy after bilateral salpingectomy, IVF and multiple embryos transfer. A case report and systematic review of the literature.

Heterotopic pregnancy after bilateral salpingectomy is an extremely rare complication of in vitro fertilisation/embryo transfer cycles. We report a case of a ruptured abdominal pregnancy on the omentum which was the stimulus to conduct the first systematic review on this complication according to 'PRISMA' guidelines (PROSPERO R.No CRD42020134104). PubMed, EMBASE and OpenAIRE databases were systematically reviewed for studies reporting (a) cases or case series of, (b) heterotopic pregnancies after, (c) prior bilateral salpingectomy, and (d) embryo transfer cycles. Laparotomy for Advanced Abdominal Ectopic Pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Abdominal pregnancy is the rarest and the most serious type of extrauterine pregnancy. The mainstay of treatment for advanced abdominal pregnancy is surgery. The fetus can be delivered easily, and there are two options for the management of the placenta: removal of the placenta and leave the placenta in situ. Case Presentation. This is a 26-year-old primigravida lady who does not recall her first day of last normal menstrual period (LNMP) but claimed to be amenorrhic for the past 9 months. Non-surgical management of abdominal ectopic pregnancy with uterine artery embolization.

Abdominal pregnancy is a rare but life-threatening variation of ectopic pregnancy that is often treated with laparoscopic management; however, we present a case successfully treated using only minimally invasive techniques. A 36-year-old female G1P0 with a history of infertility is diagnosed with 11-weeks abdominal pregnancy by transvaginal ultrasound. She presented with vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain, and her beta-human chorionic gonadotropin was 53,680 mIU/mL. The location of the fetal sac was not amenable to surgery or percutaneous injection. We performed bilateral uterine artery embol
