Tubal pregnancy is a common cause of maternal mortality in early pregnancy. Transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (TU-LESS) has gained popularity due to its safety and aesthetic advantages. However, the lack of affordable disposable entry platforms hinders its widespread adoption. This study aimed to investigate the learning curve of tubal pregnancy removal using single-incision multiport (SIMP) laparoscopy and provide guidance for novice gynecologists. A retrospective analysis was conducted on cases of ectopic pregnancy (EP) diagnosed at Dongguan Songshan Lake Central Hospital f

We herein report a rare case of simultaneous intrauterine molar pregnancy and tubal pregnancy. A woman of childbearing age who had never been pregnant underwent an ultrasound examination 70 days after the onset of menopause. She had a history of ovulation induction. The ultrasound findings suggested a partial hydatidiform mole. She was then pathologically confirmed to have a complete hydatidiform mole after uterine suction dilation and curettage. On postoperative day 4, an ultrasound examination before discharge showed an inhomogeneous mass in the left adnexal region with mild lower abdominal

Introduction: We investigated the role of E-cadherin and Ber-EP4 in tubal pregnancy by comparing their expressions in epithelial and trophoblastic cells both in ectopic tubal and intrauterine pregnancies. Methods: The Formalin-fixed paraffin embedded blocks of 17 intrauterine and 17 tubal pregnancies were immunohistochemically stained with E-cadherin and Ber-EP4. Results: E-cadherin was expressed in the epithelium, villous and extravillous trophoblast in tubal and intrauterine pregnancies but not in the syncytiotrophoblast. The staining intensity was lower in the extra-villous trophoblast in t

OBJECTIVE: Chronic ectopic pregnancy is a variant of ectopic pregnancy featured with a low or normal serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) test. Obscure clinical presentations and non-specific images make chronic ectopic pregnancy a diagnostic dilemma until now.
CASE REPORT: A 40-year-old female was misdiagnosed as tubo-ovarian abscess initially due to chronic lower abdominal pain, negative pregnancy test, and a complicated pelvic mass on abdominal CT scan and serial follow-up ultrasonography. Diagnostic laparoscopy was performed because of persistent pelvic mass with abdominal pain

The incidence of unilateral tubal twin pregnancy is 1/20,000-1/250,000 with about 100 reported cases. Four of the six cases that were medically managed were successful. A 24-year-old female presented to the emergency department (ED) with vaginal bleeding and abdominal cramping. She was hemodynamically stable without signs of an acute abdomen. Laboratory evaluation revealed she was pregnant with a serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (b-hCG) of 798 mIU/mL. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) revealed a single left tubal pregnancy with a yolk sac. The patient elected medical management with body s

OBJECTIVES: Inhibition of estradiol production by letrozole may interfere with physiological effects of progesterone necessary to maintain the pregnancy. Treatment of tubal pregnancy (TP) with letrozole would allow to avoid the disadvantages of methotrexate (MTX). The aim was to compare the effectiveness of letrozole with MTX in the management of TP.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective open-label cohort study was conducted among women with TP and increasing B-human chorionic gonadotropin (B-hCG) concentrations. MTX was administered in a single dose of 100 mg intravenously, while letrozole in

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical factors prior to methotrexate (MTX) treatment for tubal ectopic pregnancy and to apply the data to a prediction model for treatment success.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted during 2014-2022. Of the 808 patients with a tubal ectopic pregnancy, 372 with a β-hCG level less than 5000 IU/L were treated with a single dose of MTX and were included in this study. Pretreatment factors, including patient characteristics, initial β-hCG level, and sonographic parameters, were compared between those who achieved complete resolution and those who needed a

BACKGROUND: Due to the specific nature of interstitial pregnancy (IP), there are significant risks to both the mother and the foetus in women with a heterotopic interstitial pregnancy (HIP). IP alone has been analysed as a site-specific ectopic pregnancy (EP) in previous studies; however, according to the latest European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology criteria, IP is classified as a tubal pregnancy. If IP can be classified as a tubal pregnancy, then there is no difference in the effects of these two methods on intrauterine pregnancies (IUPs). Under the premise of timely surgery,

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The management of ectopic pregnancies has evolved from traditional laparotomy to minimally invasive techniques, with posterior colpotomy emerging as a viable alternative. This study explores the safety and efficacy of posterior colpotomy in tubal ectopic pregnancy management.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 16 cases employing posterior colpotomy for ectopic pregnancy treatment was conducted from 2009 to 2021.
RESULTS: Posterior colpotomy demonstrated success in all 16 cases, with no intraoperative complications, short surgical times (15-65 minutes), and minim

Intramural pregnancy (IMP) is a rare type of ectopic pregnancy, in which the gestational sac is completely embedded in uterine myometrium, unconnected with uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. Due to its potentially fatal hemorrhage and uterine rupture, early diagnosis and management of IMP are important to reduce the risk of hemorrhage as well as preserve patients' fertility. In most cases, IMP can be confirmed by ultrasound preoperatively, but some cases are identified eventually by laparoscopic surgery, which were initially suspected as tubal pregnancy. Different treatment modalities have be

BACKGROUND: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) accounts for approximately 2% of all pregnancies, with tubal ectopic pregnancies (TEPs) being the most common type. Methotrexate (MTX) is a noninvasive and effective medical management option for TEP, but failure rates range from 10 to 36%, posing challenges in clinical practice. Identifying risk factors for MTX treatment failure is crucial to improve patient outcomes and guide clinical decision-making. This study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with MTX failure in TEP patients and support personalized treatment strategies.
METHODS: This retro

Ectopic pregnancy (EP) constitutes 1%-2% of all pregnancies and is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. The most common site of ectopic pregnancy is the ampulla. Ectopic ovarian pregnancy (EOP) is one of the rare events, with an incidence of 0.5%-3% of all pregnancies. The incidence is higher in intrauterine device users or assisted reproductive techniques. The precise aetiology and pathogenesis of EOP remain elusive. Clinically, EOP mirrors the presentation of tubal pregnancy or a ruptured luteal cyst, often leading to life-threatening hypovolemic shock. Transvaginal

RATIONALE: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, accounting for 0.5% to 3% of the total number of ectopic pregnancies. Its diagnostic rate is very low and it can be easily misdiagnosed before laparoscopy, due to the clinical presentation being very similar to tubal pregnancy. The ovarian blood supply is abundant, and in case of rupture of ovarian pregnancy, intra-abdominal hemorrhage or even hemorrhagic shock may occur, endangering the patient's life. We report a case of ruptured primary ovarian pregnancy through natural conception.
PATIENT CONCERNS: This patient had a histor

Ectopic pregnancy, characterized by the aberrant implantation of blastocysts outside the uterine endometrial lining, typically occurs within the fallopian tube. Clinical presentation of tubal pregnancy ranges from asymptomatic cases to a spectrum of symptoms, including amenorrhea, pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, and, critically, hemorrhagic shock resulting from tubal rupture. Utilizing serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin levels and ultrasound examinations is pivotal in confirming the diagnosis. Diagnosing tubal pregnancy during the first trimester is feasible and crucial to prevent rupture,

Ectopic pregnancy is a medical condition in which a fertilized egg takes an unexpected detour away from the uterine cavity and the fallopian tube becomes a popular host, with the ampulla being the prime location. However, it can occur in other areas such as cervix, ovaries, or abdomen. The most common risk factors are pelvic inflammatory disease, previous pelvic or abdominal surgery, abnormal anatomy of genital organs, endometriosis, previous ectopic pregnancies, assisted reproductive technologies, endocrine disorders, and even the subtle influence of low-dose progestins from contraceptives. The ampulla portion of the fallopian tube is the most common site of ectopic pregnancy (70%), with approximately 2% of pregnancies implanted in the interstitial portion. In general, an interstitial ectopic pregnancy (IEP) is difficult to diagnose and is associated with a high rate of complications-most patients with an IEP present with severe abdominal pain and haemorrhagic shock due to an ectopic rupture. Chronic tubal pregnancy (CTP) is an uncommon condition with an incidence of 20%. The CTP has a longer clinical course and a negative or low level of serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin d

OBJECTIVE: To report a rare case of spontaneous ectopic pregnancy (EP) after partial salpingectomy treated by laparoscopy.
CASE REPORT: A 30-year-old gravida 1 para 0 woman with a history of left adnexectomy, due to left ovarian torsion 13 years ago, was referred to our hospital. She had experienced lower abdominal pain for 1 day and amenorrhea for 1 week. Transvaginal ultrasonography did not reveal an intrauterine pregnancy, but showed a suspected extrauterine gestational sac on the left adnexal area. The patient was diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy, and laparoscopy was performed. During the

Heterotopic pregnancy involves the coexistence of both an intrauterine and an extrauterine pregnancy occurring simultaneously. The spontaneous incidence of heterotopic pregnancy in the general population has been estimated to be 1/30,000. This report discusses the case of a 37-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. Upon workup, a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated a heterotopic pregnancy with an estimated gestational age of seven weeks. The ultrasounds confirmed an intrauterine pregnancy with fetal cardiac
