UNLABELLED: Ovarian ectopic pregnancy is only 3% of all ectopic, with an incidence of 1:7,000-40,000. In the last 10 years, it has been a rise in incidence. Most patients have vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain and shock data. Less than 300-400 cases are reported in the literature.
CASE: We present the case of a woman with ovarian ectopic pregnancy of 12 weeks of gestation, who have not suggestive clinical signs and whose diagnosis was incidental despite having a regular prenatal ultrasound.
CONCLUSION: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare presentation; diagnosis is difficult and often suggested by cli

Heterotopic pregnancy is defined as the simultaneous occurrence of intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy, either of which may be single or multiple. It occurs in up to 1% of pregnancies after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. This article reports 2 rare cases of heterotopic pregnancy after in vitro fertilization and presents a literature review. In the first case, a 28-year-old woman had previous laparoscopic bilateral total salpingectomy for a right tubal pregnancy and a left hydrosalpinx. However, she had ovarian heterotopic pregnancy after a third in vitro fertilization cycle. Emerge

BACKGROUND: Primary ovarian ectopic pregnancy is a rare type of ectopic pregnancy which has an estimated prevalence ranging from 1:7000 to 1:70,000 accounting for almost 3 % of all ectopic cases. Here we report the case of a 25-year-old woman who presented to our clinic with abdominal pain, 6 weeks' delay of menstruation and 3 days of vaginal bleeding, whose transvaginal ultrasonography showed an ectopic gestational sac with yolk sac inside, in her right ovary. This case shows that early diagnosis is very important particularly in places like the Sub-Saharan region of Africa.

The objectives of this study were to emphasise that ectopic pregnancy (EP) can occasionally occur in rare sites such as the ovary, and to show that it may be difficult making the diagnosis clinically and radiologically. It also highlighted the benefit of early surgical intervention in reducing mortality and morbidity from this condition. The case was a 31-year-old nulliparous woman who presented with amenorrhoea of 20 weeks and a 2-month history of lower abdominal pain. Radiological studies suggested abdominal pregnancy coexisting with uterine fibroids for which she had an exploratory laparoto

BACKGROUND: Despite awareness regarding tubal pregnancy, ovarian pregnancy still remains a diagnostic challenge. The correct diagnosis is most frequently made intraoperatively and requires histopathologic confirmation. Therefore, additional diagnostic measurements are needed for earlier and more accurate detection of ovarian pregnancies which will allow more rapid and efficient treatment.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the time trends, clinical manifestations, surgical management and post-procedure outcome of 46 primary ovarian pregnancies in a single institution during three time periods.
METHODS: I

BACKGROUND: Ovarian pregnancy (OP) is a low-frequency pathology but with devastating effects on women reproductive health. It is often difficult to distinguish from tubal or abdominal pregnancy. Diagnostic procedures and actual medical approaches to the treatment of OP are still a challenge.
CLINICAL CASE: In this paper we present a 21 years old woman, seen at the Hospital as emergency abdominal pain and hypovolemic shock, with a pregnancy of 14 weeks of gestational age. Emergency laparotomy was performed and right salpingo-oophorectomy was made. The findings were massive hemoperitoneum with

We describe a death in a 15-mo-old girl who developed a varicella-like rash 20 d after varicella vaccination that lasted for 2 mo despite acyclovir treatment. The rash was confirmed to be due to vaccine-strain varicella-zoster virus (VZV). This is the first case of fatal varicella due to vaccine-strain VZV reported from the United States. The patient developed severe respiratory complications that worsened with each new crop of varicella lesions; vaccine-strain VZV was detected in the bronchial lavage specimen. Sepsis and multi-organ failure led to death. The patient did not have a previously

Ovarian pregnancy is a rare form of extra uterine pregnancy. Serous cyst adenoma is a benign variant of epithelial cell tumors of ovary. The coexistence of a cyst adenoma with an ovarian pregnancy in the same ovary is extremely rare. Some studies suggested that infertility or ovulation-inducing drugs can be involved in increased risk of ovarian tumors and ovarian pregnancies. A 28-year-old infertile woman presented with a ruptured ovarian pregnancy following ovulation induction with metformin. She had a concurrent benign serous cyst adenoma in the same ovary. Resection of both ovarian pregnanc

BACKGROUND: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare form of the non-tubal ectopic pregnancy. It ends with rupture before the end of the first trimester. One of the important risk factors for ovarian pregnancy is in the use of Intra uterine devices (IUD).
CASE: We report here one such uncommon case of ovarian ectopic pregnancy. Our patient is a 30 years old multiparous woman with two previous cesarean sections with severe hypogastric abdominal pain. During laparotomy, ruptured ovarian ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed, and wedge resection of the ovary was only done. Histopathological examination confirmed i

Ovarian pregnancy is very rare, and its incidence is 1 in 3000 live births. In this condition, common risk factors for ectopic pregnancy not usually found. It usually occurs in fertile women and more commonly with in-situ intrauterine device (IUD). Preoperative diagnosis is always not possible although the patient commonly presents with abdomen-pelvic pain, per vaginal bleeding and hypovolemic shock. High degree of suspicion with estimation of serum beta HCG, transvaginal ultrasonography by an experienced sonologist and laparoscopy is required for confirming the diagnosis. Though, the usual tr

BACKGROUND: Ovarian pregnancy constitutes 0.15-3% of all ectopic pregnancies. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy is on the rise owing to evolution in assisted reproductive techniques (ART). The incidence reported following In vitro fertilization (IVF) or embryo transfer (ET) is 0.27% per clinical pregnancy.
CASE: We present a case of a 13-weeks ovarian pregnancy following IVF-ET and through a review of the literature, the specific symptomatology, diagnostic criteria, and treatment of this particular pathology will be described.
CONCLUSION: Ovarian pregnancy is a rare condition and its diagno

BACKGROUND: Primary ovarian pregnancy is one of the rarest forms of ectopic pregnancy having incidence of 1/7000-1/40,000 in live births and 0.5-3% of all ectopic gestations. Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), salpingitis, infertility, and assisted reproductive techniques are the important risk factors. Approximately, 75% terminate in first trimester and are often misdiagnosed as corpus luteum haemorrhage. Preoperative diagnosis by ultrasonography (USG) in early pregnancy can help in conservative medical/ surgical management.

OBJECTIVE: To identify risk factors for ovarian pregnancy (OP) and compare clinical features between OP and tubal pregnancy (TP) patients.
DESIGN: Case-control study.
SETTING: University hospital.
PARTICIPANTS: A case-control study was conducted from January 2005 to May 2014. Women diagnosed with OP were recruited as the case group (n=71), 145 women with TP and 146 with intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) were matched as controls at a ratio of 1:2:2. Women who refused interviews or provided incomplete information were excluded.
RESULTS: OP risk was lower than TP risk in women with serological evi

Advanced ovarian pregnancy is a quite rare condition. Due to the high maternal and neonatal mortality rates, early and accurate diagnosis is vital. Lack of sufficient data led us to search the literature and compile available data on the topic. A 33-year-old woman presented with acute abdomen at 34 weeks of gestation. She underwent laparotomy, which revealed a live foetus surrounded by an intact amnion membrane located in the left adnexal area. The patient delivered a live female infant. Heavy bleeding from the placenta necessitated salpingo oophorectomy. Histological examination of the remove

Early detection of ovarian pregnancy (OP) is essential for successful laparoscopic conservative surgery. However, early preoperative ultrasonography-based diagnosis is often difficult when fetal cardiac activity or the yolk sac is absent. The authors report a case of OP diagnosed at eight weeks gestational age in a natural pregnancy. The patient presented with amenorrhea and transient vaginal bleeding, and slight tenderness in the right ovary was noted during vaginal ultrasonography. Furthermore, ultrasonography showed a gestational sac (GS) without fetal cardiac activity or yolk sac, consiste

Ovarian pregnancy is very rare and to our knowledge, no case has been reported in Cameroon. We herein report a case at the Yaounde Central Hospital. It is the case of a 29 years old woman who consulted in emergency for left pelvic pain at 9 weeks of pregnancy. The level of beta human chorionic gonadotropin was 96702 milli-international Units/ milliliter and ultrasound revealed an intra-ovarian gestational sac, an empty uterus and no peritoneal effusion. In the absence of facilities for laparoscopy, an emergency laparotomy was done. We found the non ruptured mass inside the left ovary. The left

A 31-year-old woman presented with a 7-week history of irregular vaginal bleeding without abdominal pain. She had been using the intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) for the last 3 years. A pregnancy test was positive and subsequent serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) was 4992 mIU/mL. A transvaginal ultrasound scan demonstrated an empty uterus with an associated adnexal mass but no free fluid. A right primary ovarian ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed a laparoscopy. This was managed laparoscopically using monopolar diathermy hook with conservation of the ovary and minimal blood los

Ovarian pregnancy is a rare entity. Making a definitive preoperative or even intraoperative diagnosis of ovarian pregnancy is difficult and the diagnosis is usually established by the pathologist. Rupture in the first trimester is the usual rule in ovarian ectopy. Thus, it continues to challenge practicing clinicians. The literature shows an association between intrauterine device usage and ovarian gestation. We present a case of ovarian pregnancy in a secundipara complaining of abdominal pain that also has pelvic adhesions. This case meets the four criteria of Spiegelberg and is interesting b

BACKGROUND: The first steps in the diagnosis of an ectopic pregnancy are to use a sensitive qualitative urine test to detect the beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) and to perform a transvaginal ultrasonograph. y negative urine pregnancy test result is generally used to exclude an ectopic pregnancy; however, a few studies have reported the presence of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in a patient with a negative urine pregnancy test result. Furthermore, because secondary omental implantation (SOI) is rare and probably underestimated or misdiagnosed, a case of an SOI with a nega
