Hydatidiform mole and coexisting fetus is a very rare condition of which etiology is still inconclusive. It may occur after assisted reproduction, often leading to the death of normal embryos and other serious complications. We report a case of partial hydatidiform mole and coexisting fetus after frozen embryo transplantation. More than two months after the patient underwent transplantation with two blastocysts (scored 4AB and 4BC), B-ultrasound showed a single live fetus with a large dense dotted strong echo area. The patient was treated with chemotherapy after the termination of pregnancy du

A pregnant woman with hydatidiform mole in one twin was misdiagnosed as one of the twins with embryonic arrest. She chose to terminate the pregnancy and developed distant lung metastasis. After chemotherapy, she eventually recovered. This article systematically analyzes the diagnosis and treatment of hydatidiform mole in one twin to increase the awareness and reduce misdiagnosis of the disease.

Immunostaining with p57KIP2 is a widely used diagnostic technique to differentiate complete hydatidiform moles (CHMs) from partial hydatidiform moles (PHM) and non-molar hydropic abortion. However, distinguishing between PHMs and non-molar hydropic abortions using histopathology alone is often challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the technical validity and additional benefits of using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in combination with p57KIP2 immunostaining to diagnose molar and non-molar conceptuses. The study involved 80 specimens, which underwent genetic diagnosis using shor

Twin pregnancy with one fetus and one complete mole falls amongst extremely rare obstetric situations. The spectrum of complications associated with it is wide. Once diagnosed, the choice between continuation and termination of pregnancy depends upon couple's preference and readiness to accept possible complications. Key to success lies in clinical vigilance and tailoring management according to emerging needs during pregnancy and follow up. We present a case of twin pregnancy with complete hydatidiform mole and coexisting normal fetus diagnosed at 25 weeks. Pregnancy was complicated by anemia

A hydatidiform mole (HM), often known as molar pregnancy, is a type of prenatal trophoblastic illness that develops in the placenta and has the potential to spread. HMs are caused by genetic issues with either the egg or the sperm. They are typically discovered in the first trimester of pregnancy. Abnormal bleeding is one of the initial symptoms, which can seldom be accompanied by the passage of hydropic villi. Theca lutein cysts, absent fetal heart tones, enlarged uterus more than anticipated for gestational age, pregnancy-induced hypertension in the first trimester, hyperemesis, and increase

BACKGROUND: Hydatidiform mole (HM) is a common pregnancy disease among women of gestational age. Twist-related protein 1 (Twist-1) is involved in the development of various tumors, but its role in HM is poorly defined. This study aimed to explore Twist-1 expression and its biological function in HM cells.
METHODS: Twist-1 expression in HM was detected by immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The effects of silencing Twist-1 on choriocarcinoma (CCA) cell proliferation were detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and clone formation assays. CCA cel

Cases of hydatidiform moles with a coexisting fetus are sparse and patients are at high risk for severe complications. Patients and physicians often face the dilemma of the wish to continue pregnancy until viability of the fetus while the risk for maternal complications increases. We present an educational case of a twin pregnancy presenting with a hydatidiform mole and coexisting normal fetus with a placenta praevia. The patient developed severe, early onset preeclampsia with beginning HELLP-syndrome and was tested Covid-19 positive in the further course. Termination of pregnancy was conducte

Gestational trophoblastic disease comprises a group of rare, and potentially malignant, conditions that arise from abnormal trophoblastic proliferation. When there is invasion and evidence of metastatic disease, gestational trophoblastic neoplasia is used. While chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, the role of surgery has come full circle in recent years. Before the introduction of highly effective systemic treatment options, surgery was the default treatment. Surgery for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia often yielded unsatisfactory results and

Background: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been reported to play a diagnostic and predictive role in gestational trophoblastic disease. However, the conclusions are still ambiguous. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the combined predictive value of NLR and PLR in the malignant progression of gestational trophoblastic disease. Method: Electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang and China Biomedical Literature Database were searched for the relevant lit

INTRODUCTION: Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) encompasses a spectrum of rare pre-malignant and malignant entities originating from trophoblastic tissue, including partial hydatidiform mole, complete hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma. β-galactoside α2,6 sialyltransferase 1 (ST6Gal1), the primary sialyltransferase responsible for the addition of α2,6 sialic acids, is strongly associated with the occurrence and development of several tumor types. However, the role of ST6Gal1/α2,6 -sialylation of trophoblast cells in GTD is still not well understood.
METHODS: The expression of ST6Gal1

Hydatidiform moles are abnormal conceptuses. Many hydatidiform moles are diploid androgenetic, and of these, most are homozygous in all loci. Additionally, most hydatidiform moles are euploid. Using Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) array analysis, in two studies a higher frequency of aneuploidy was observed in diploid androgenetic heterozygous conceptuses, than in their homozygous counterparts. In the Danish Mole Project, we analyze conceptuses suspected to be hydatidiform moles due to the clinical presentation, using karyotyping and Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis. Among 278 diploid an

INTRODUCTION: Chemotherapy is crucial in treating gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), but its impact on gonadotoxicity is unclear.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This case-control study included 57 GTN patients and 19 age-matched patients with molar pregnancies (MP) in 2012-2018. Multiples of the median (MoM) of the serum AMH levels were compared between the two groups, and between patients using single-agent and combination chemotherapy, at baseline, 6, 12, and 24 months after treatment. Their pregnancy outcomes were also compared.
RESULTS: There was no significant difference in the MoM of s

The hydatidiform mole is a rare gynaecological condition originating from trophoblastic cells, with an incidence of 1-3 per 1000 pregnancies. Theca lutein cysts (TLCs) and an invasive mole are rarely observed in association with a partial mole. This case describes an unusual case involving a 17-year-old primigravida at 11 weeks of gestation. She presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a molar pregnancy with post-evacuation rupture of TLC, presenting as an acute abdomen, subsequently undergoing laparoscopy. Post-molar pregnancies exhibit a highly variable course, ranging from recur

BACKGROUND: Twin pregnancies consisting of a complete hydatidiform mole and a coexistent fetus (CMCF) are rare and associated with a high rate of maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality. Management of these pregnancies remains controversial and increasingly challenging following the Dobbs versus Jackson Women's Health decision given the viability of the coexisting twin fetus.
CASE: This case looks at the diagnosis, management, and maternal-fetal outcomes of a viable fetus coexisting molar pregnancy at a large academic center in an abortion-restricted state.
CONCLUSION: CMCF pregnancies are as

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of hydatidiform mole at the cesarean scar site is a rare problem. Few cases have been reported, thus there is not enough information for accurate diagnosis and management of this event.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we present 2 cases of an invasive hydatidiform mole embedded in cesarean scar tissue, one presented with occasional hypogastric pain and nausea and another with spotting both with a history of cesarean section. Transvaginal ultrasonography and a considerably high titer of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin blood test suggested the existence of molar pregnanc

Hydatidiform mole is a condition characterised by abnormal trophoblastic hyperplasia and failure of embryonic tissue development. The risk of recurrence is seen to be associated with biallelic maternal mutations in NLRP7, KHDC3 L and PAD16 genes. Women with such mutations have a major risk of reproductive failure and normal pregnancy is seen in only 1.8%. We report the case of a 31-year-old woman with previous three molar pregnancies who on genetic testing was found to be compound heterozygous for pathogenic variants in the NLRP7 gene (c.2738A>G and c.2078G>C). Accordingly, the woman was couns

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is a useful modality to initially identify a molar pregnancy. In this case, we describe a 51-year-old perimenopausal woman who presented to the emergency department (ED) with vaginal bleeding. A transvaginal POCUS was performed, revealing findings concerning for a molar pregnancy. These findings led to prompt diagnosis and treatment.
