BACKGROUND: Hydatidiform mole (HM) is a form of gestational trophoblastic disease that most commonly develops within the uterine cavity. Ectopic hydatidiform mole is exceedingly rare, and abdominal implantation represents one of its rarest presentations. Due to nonspecific clinical manifestations and the lack of characteristic imaging features, abdominal HM poses significant diagnostic challenges and is frequently diagnosed only after surgical exploration.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 24-year-old woman with a history of polycystic ovary syndrome who conceived following ovulation

BACKGROUND: Complete hydatidiform mole (CHM) is a gestational trophoblastic disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of trophoblastic tissue and markedly elevated β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels. Although CHM typically presents with vaginal bleeding and uterine enlargement, it may occasionally manifest with paraneoplastic systemic symptoms that mimic autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of polyarthritis, inflammatory low back pain, and morning stiffness, initially suspected as spondyloarthritis (SpA). She h

INTRODUCTION: Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) developing after molar pregnancy is highly responsive to treatment when diagnosed early. However, delayed recognition, particularly following a partial hydatidiform mole, may lead to advanced disease with life-threatening hemorrhagic complications.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 47-year-old multiparous woman underwent uterine evacuation at an outside hospital on December 2, 2025, where histopathological examination was reported as a partial hydatidiform mole. No serial quantitative serum β-hCG monitoring was performed after evacuation. She subseque

Complete hydatidiform mole with a coexisting live fetus (CHMCF) is an exceptionally rare, high-risk obstetric condition, most often seen in dichorionic twin pregnancies, with an estimated incidence of 1 in 20,000-100,000. Maternal complications frequently include vaginal bleeding, early-onset preeclampsia, thyrotoxicosis, and, occasionally, progression to gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Fetal outcomes are unpredictable, ranging from spontaneous loss to live birth. We report a case of a 25-year-old gravida 3 para 2 at 24 + 2 weeks' gestation presenting with vaginal bleeding. Ultrasou

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) presents unique anaesthetic challenges due to the combined risks of haemorrhage, cardiopulmonary compromise, and endocrine dysfunction. Complete hydatidiform mole is frequently associated with markedly elevated human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) concentrations, which may result in biochemical or clinical thyrotoxicosis through thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor activation. Anaesthetic technique selection during uterine evacuation remains contentious. General anaesthesia (GA) is often favoured because it allows airway control and rapid escalation in t

A molar pregnancy with a complete fetus without abnormalities is extremely rare and carries significant risks for both the mother and the fetus. Mesenchymal dysplasia of the placenta is a tumor that is histologically different from a complete mole, but the sonographic appearance in these cases is very similar to a complete mole. The clinical behavior of both conditions is also very similar and poses significant risks to both the mother and the fetus. Therefore, early diagnosis and careful management of these cases are crucial to ensure the health of both the woman and the fetus in the event th

Hydatidiform mole (HM) is driven by aberrant trophoblast proliferation, disrupting embryonic development and leading to pregnancy loss with increased risk of malignant progression. Despite its clinical significance, the cellular and molecular heterogeneity of HM remains poorly characterized. To address this, we integrated single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq), single-nucleus transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing (snATAC-seq), and spatial transcriptomics to construct a cell-resolved atlas of androgenetic complete HM compared with gestational age-matched controls. The three major troph

OBJECTIVE: Approximately 15% to 20% of complete hydatidiform moles progress to post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. The presence of atypical extra-villous trophoblast foci, described in complete hydatidiform moles, has been associated with an increased risk of developing post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of atypical extra-villous trophoblast foci for treatment response in post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. Secondary objectives were to assess the clinical impact of these foci on diseas

To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics for differentiating placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) from twin pregnancy with complete hydatidiform mole and coexisting fetus (CHMCF), a retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical and pathologic data of 5 cases of CHMCF and 2 cases of PMD diagnosed in our department between April 2016 and December 2024, supplemented by a literature review. The microscopic features of PMD included stem villous hyperplasia with thick-walled stromal vessels, abundant villous stroma exhibiting edema and mucoid degeneration, an admixture of grape-l

A healthy 29-year-old woman visited the clinic with a positive pregnancy test result. At 8 weeks, ultrasonography showed no fetal sac in the uterus, and an unevenly thickened endometrium and lutein cyst in the right adnexa, and no ascites. Beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) level was 67,780 mIU/mL, but no symptoms were observed. Therefore, the uterine contents were removed, and pathological examination detected no chorionic villi in the uterus. At 9 weeks, there was a 43 mm isomass in the right adnexa. An magnetic resonance imaging was performed on the same day. A mass of 43 mm in th

BACKGROUND: Limited awareness of placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) and the diagnostic challenges in differentiating it from partial hydatidiform moles on imaging often lead to inappropriate management. This study presents a case report and literature review to elucidate the etiology, clinical features, and management of PMD.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was admitted with a history of amenorrhea lasting over two months and experiencing vaginal bleeding for four days. Ultrasonography at 12 weeks of gestation revealed extensive cystic changes within the placenta, and was subsequently corro

Short tandem repeat (STR) genotyping is widely used in human identity testing and is the gold standard for diagnosing and classifying hydatidiform moles and gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. Although STR loci are known to be highly stable, recent whole-genome sequencing studies have revealed confined mosaicism and extensive genetic alterations in term placentas, raising concerns about the reliability of STR-based diagnostics in placental tissues. To assess the genetic stability of STR loci in human term placentas, we performed STR genotyping using a commercial 16-locus kit (PowerPlex 16) on

BACKGROUND: Invasive mole is one of the most common forms of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), characterized by hydropic chorionic villi with trophoblastic proliferation invading the myometrium. Although it usually develops after complete hydatidiform mole, occurrence following partial hydatidiform mole is uncommon. Delayed follow-up and inadequate β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) surveillance may contribute to disease progression and severe complications.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus and a leading cause of visual impairment. While dyslipidemia has been implicated in DR pathogenesis, the relationship between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and DR remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the association between HDL-C levels and DR prevalence in diabetic patients type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
METHODS: This study is the second analysis based on a cross-sectional studv. A total of 2001 (858 men and 1143 women) diabetic patients who visited the diabetic

OBJECTIVE: To report a clinical case of complete hydatidiform mole (CHM) with significant impact on thyroid function, associated with the development of acute pulmonary edema in the period following uterine evacuation.
CASE REPORT: A 46-year-old woman sought medical attention due to significant vaginal bleeding, with marked elevation of serum β-hCG (greater than 300,000 mIU/mL), as well as transvaginal ultrasonography with imaging suggestive of HM. After uterine evacuation, the patient developed acute respiratory failure with dyspnea and chest pain, requiring intensive care admission and mech

BACKGROUND: Shared mechanical ventilation has been proposed during ventilator shortages, but unequal tidal volume delivery remains a major limitation when lung compliance differs. Professional societies have cautioned against this practice, yet the intervention has never been validated clinically, and ethical constraints preclude direct patient testing. Translational simulation-simulation applied beyond education to probe clinical systems, test crisis-driven innovations, and generate actionable safety data-offers a methodological pathway for evaluating interventions that cannot be studied in v

A complete molar pregnancy is a rare but dangerous complication of pregnancy. Early diagnosis is crucial due to the potential harmful consequences, especially if recognized late. Complications include the malignant potential, hyperthyroidism, possible preeclampsia, and ovarian cysts. Here, we report a case study in which a 47-year-old woman with no medical history presented with heart failure and a systemic infection. Upon further investigation, she was found to have significant hyperthyroidism due to thyroid stimulation from a very high human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) level, in the presenc

We report a 28-year-old-female who presented with primary amenorrhoea, absence of puberty, obesity and normal stature. The subject was clearly short as a child, with a height more than 2 SD below normal until the age of 15 years. The pubertal growth spurt failed to develop. She continued growing at a prepubertal rate until growth ceased at the age of 20 years, reaching her final adult height of 157 cm (SDS -0.86) without hormonal treatment. A combined pituitary hormone stimulation test of anterior pituitary function showed deficiencies of GH, LH and FSH, and low normal serum levels of TSH and

In recent decades, there has been a call for change among all stakeholders involved in scoliosis management. Parents of children with scoliosis have complained about the so-called "wait and see" approach that far too many doctors use when evaluating children's scoliosis curves between 10° and 25°. Observation, Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) and bracing for idiopathic scoliosis during growth are all therapeutic interventions accepted by the 2011 International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT). The standard features of these interventions a

Curettages of early pregnancy losses (EPLs) are frequently sent specimens for pathologic anatomic investigation, because about 15% of the clinically diagnosed pregnancies result in a miscarriage. According to recently published German recommendations, every early miscarriage should be investigated morphologically. In a careful macroscopic preparation, the different compartments (decidua, villous tissue, and possibly embryo/fetus) should be identified and submitted for histologic diagnosis. The most important issues for the microscopic investigation are documentation of an intrauterine pregnanc
