Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) is a type of genetically inherited diabetes. As it generally arises in early adulthood, it can affect pregnant women with significant neonatal outcomes. Our study aimed to conduct a systematic review on pregnancy management and outcomes of all subtypes of MODY, browsing the Cochrane, EMBASE and PubMed databases to find clinical studies on the topic. They were last searched on June 29, 2025. The inclusion criteria for our review were: published articles, available in their full-text version, about MODY, reporting data about its management during pregn

CONTEXT: The intrauterine environment strongly influences children's health and development. Distinct cardiovascular biomarkers have been linked to birth weight and later weight gain, with correlations observed in maternal and umbilical cord serum.
OBJECTIVE: To describe (1) maternal cardiovascular biomarker patterns during the second and third trimesters and (2) potential associations between these biomarkers and offspring weight at birth and at 1 year of age.
DESIGN: Within the LIFE Child Study, serum samples from 86 healthy mothers at 24 and 36 gestational weeks and cord blood at birth we

Uterine arteriovenous malformation is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, particularly after pregnancy-related intrauterine instrumentation. It can mimic or coexist with retained products of conception, and inappropriate curettage may precipitate severe hemorrhage. We report the case of a 27-year-old G1P0 woman who presented with recurrent metrorrhagia, pelvic pain, and two months without a normal menstrual period, five months after an unsupervised termination of pregnancy followed by uterine curettage. She was hemodynamically stable but anemic, wit

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is being identified with increasing frequency worldwide. It arises from a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, perinatal, and socio-demographic influences. A better understanding of these contributing factors is important for improving early identification and guiding preventive strategies. Within this framework, the present study sought to evaluate the perinatal and socio-demographic factors linked to ASD in children aged three to six years.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study, conducted in a hospital se

INTRODUCTION: To assess the prevalence and clinical impact of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and low complement levels on fetal-maternal outcomes in pregnant women within the spectrum of obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
METHODS: A total of 285 ever-pregnant women with APS-related obstetric morbidity were included. Among them, 85 fulfilled APS classification criteria, 139 were classified as non-criteria APS (NC-APS), and 61 as seronegative APS (SN-APS). Patients with other autoimmune diseases were excluded. Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO) included early pregnancy loss, fetal death, pr

Imperfect first-trimester screening for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) means many high-risk women miss the window for preventive aspirin, and the biological heterogeneity of HDPs is overlooked. This study aimed to leverage first-trimester serum proteomics to create a more precise tool for predicting preeclampsia (PE) and differentiating it from other HDPs. A prospective nested case-control study (n = 172) was conducted using targeted liquid chromatography-multiple reaction monitoring-mass spectrometry (LC-MRM-MS) proteomic profiling of 115 proteins. Machine learning (ML) methods wer

Plasmodium vivax is one of the most common forms of malaria worldwide, notable for its ability to relapse from a dormant liver stage. Radical cure of Plasmodium as well as with P. ovale requires the use of 8-aminoquinolines to clear both blood and liver parasites; however, they are contraindicated in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency due to the risk of causing hemolysis and in pregnant individuals due to the unknown G6PD status of the fetus. We present a case of a young pregnant woman with fever, nausea, and vomiting, who, upon blood peripheral smear and polymerase chain rea

This retrospective study of 4143 women at Fujian Maternal and Child Health Hospital (2012-2022) investigated how maternal risk levels influence clinical characteristics and perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia. Utilizing class-imbalance-adjusted and random forest algorithms, participants were stratified into high-risk (17.38%), moderate-risk (34.08%), and low-risk (48.54%) groups. The analysis revealed that women in the high-risk category were diagnosed at a significantly earlier gestational age and faced higher rates of severe, early-onset, and preterm preec

INTRODUCTION: The chorionic bump (CB) is a rare sonographic finding defined as an irregular protrusion from the choriodecidual surface into the gestational sac. Its prognostic significance regarding pregnancy loss remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the association between first-trimester CB and pregnancy outcomes and to investigate whether ultrasonographic radiomic features can support early risk stratification.
METHODS: This two-center retrospective study included 184 women diagnosed with a CB and 1052 matched controls between January 2020 and December 2024. All participants

BACKGROUND: Nonketotic hyperglycinemia is a rare metabolic disorder caused by glycine accumulation due to defects in the glycine cleavage system. While severe metabolic disorders can theoretically affect fetal growth, nonketotic hyperglycinemia is not recognized as a common or typical cause of symmetric intrauterine growth retardation.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case report describes a Iranian 36-week male neonate with symmetrical intrauterine growth restriction, born to consanguineous parents with a history of preeclampsia and prior fetal demise. Despite initial stabilization, the infant develo

OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with future maternal cardiovascular disease, independent of the development of Type-2 diabetes mellitus. As a major cardiovascular risk factor, we examined the incidence and predictors of hypertension at 5 months postpartum in women with previous GDM.
METHODS: Between September 2023 and January 2025, we conducted a single-center observational prospective cohort study of all women who received routine prenatal care at 12 weeks' gestation at King's College Hospital, London, UK, and developed GDM during the index pregnancy. Those with

Preeclampsia is a severe pregnancy hypertensive disorder characterized by arterial hypertension and multiorgan involvement, most frequently affecting the renal, hepatic, and neurological systems. While its typical manifestations include headaches, visual disturbances, and/or epigastric pain, atypical presentations may occur and may lead to life-threatening complications. We report the case of a 33-year-old multiparous woman who developed sudden left-sided hemiparesis, hemisensory loss, homonymous hemianopia, and rightward conjugate gaze deviation within 24 hours after a cesarean delivery. NK cells are classically defined by their rapid cytotoxicity against tumor cells and infected cells and by early inflammatory cytokine production. However, unconventional roles for NK cells as regulators of immunity and tissue homeostasis have recently been uncovered. Beyond their classical roles, NK cells can orchestrate leukocyte trafficking, curtail responses of other immune cells, remove protein aggregates, support pregnancy, and contribute to healthy tissue regeneration. We discuss the importance of these myriad functional activities of NK cells in infection, cancer, autoimmunity, atopic

BACKGROUND: The association between maternal iron status and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains elusive. Clearer evidence is needed to inform appropriate ferritin thresholds and iron supplementation guidelines during pregnancy.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether first-trimester serum ferritin (SF) concentration is associated with subsequent GDM risk.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
SETTING: A tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology hospital in Shanghai, China.
PARTICIPANTS: A total of 6429 low-risk pregnant women at fewer than 14 weeks of gestation were finally include

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate pregnancy outcomes in women with early gestational diabetes mellitus (eGDM) diagnosed by mild elevation of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in the first trimester.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 114 pregnant women with first trimester FPG <100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L). Women with FPG ≥92 mg/dL (5.1 mmol/L) and <100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L) were classified as having eGDM, and FPG was reassessed after approximately 3-4 weeks. Women whose repeated FPG was <92 mg/dL (5.1 mmol/L) were assigned to Group 1 (G1; n = 33) and did not receive eGDM treatment. These pa

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: Uterine rupture is a rare but life-threatening obstetric condition that can lead to catastrophic outcomes for pregnant patients and their offspring. As the trial of labor after cesarean births rises and other uterine procedures become more common, the observed rates of this complication have increased. We aim to provide guidance on risk stratification, timely recognition, anesthetic considerations, hemorrhage management, and associated outcomes.
RECENT FINDINGS: The risk of uterine rupture varies by scar type, with the highest rates after classical cesarean incisions. T

Successful establishment of pregnancy requires maternal immune tolerance to paternal antigens introduced by insemination. Regulatory T cell (Treg)-associated responses are thought to play a central role in this process, whereas pro-inflammatory T helper 1 (Th1) responses may disrupt pregnancy success. In other species, seminal plasma (SP) has been shown to modulate maternal immune adaptation; however, this relationship remains poorly defined in mares, where SP is frequently reduced during routine breeding practices. The objectives of this study were to (1) characterize temporal changes in syst

Pipkin type III femoral head fracture-dislocation in a gravid patient is an exceptionally rare clinical entity. We report the case of a woman in her early 40s who presented at 36 weeks of gestation following a high-energy motor vehicle collision. Clinical examination and imaging confirmed a left posterior hip dislocation; computed tomography revealed a severely comminuted Pipkin type III fracture that precluded open reduction and internal fixation. A multidisciplinary team formulated a staged single-anaesthetic operative strategy; emergency caesarean section was performed immediately before ce
