We present a case of a 31-year-old woman, gravida 4 para 1, pregnant at 33 + 2 weeks of gestational age with acute abdomen due to hemoperitoneum. Hemoperitoneum was suspected for non-specific symptoms such as acute abdominal pain, vomit, cardiotocography alterations and maternal acute anaemia. An emergency caesarean section was performed; 3 L of blood was present in abdomen. Careful exploration of the uterus, placenta, abdominal organs and vessels was negative; only a bleeding from a rupture in a varix of the left broad ligament was observed. Hemoperitoneum due to a ruptured uterine varix in p

Spontaneous uterine venous rupture is a very rare condition (1/10,000 pregnancies). The etiology is still unknown, and it is associated with an increased of venous pressure. The rupture especially occurs on third trimester. The most frequent site of the rupture is the broad ligament. Maternal mortality has decreased to 4% but the perinatal mortality rate is still as high as 31%. The presenting symptoms are commonly unspecific. Clinical presentations are usually hypovolemic shock signs with severe abdominal pain and reduction in hemoglobin levels. In view of these findings an exploratory laparo

3 pregnant women, aged 34, 28, and 39 years respectively, presented with an inguinal swelling. In one patient the swelling was bilateral and painful. Reposition was possible and ultrasound examination revealed round ligament varicosities, the most common cause of an inguinal swelling during pregnancy. Expectative treatment is advised as the condition usually disappears after parturition. It is concluded that in every pregnant woman with an inguinal swelling, sonography with doppler imaging must be performed to confirm the diagnosis of round ligament varicosities to avoid unnecessary surgery.

Varices in the round ligament are very rare and have only been reported in pregnant women as an inguinal mass normally detected in the third trimester of gestation. B-mode and Doppler color ultrasonography are fundamental tools in the diagnosis, because they make it possible to reach a conclusive diagnosis and to rule out other clinically possible inguinal masses. Given that the treatment is conservative, it is essential for the radiologist to be familiar with this condition and its ultrasonographic characteristics to enable the correct diagnosis and avoid unnecessary surgical exploration.

Round ligament varicosities during pregnancy are an important differential diagnosis of complicated inguinal hernias and have been reported only rarely. Diagnosis is reassuring and may prevent unnecessary surgical exploration. We describe a case of round ligament varicosities presenting during pregnancy that was readily diagnosed with Doppler sonography.

Round ligament varices (RLV) are an important clinical entity as they may cause hernia-like symptoms in the absence of a true hernia. When this condition is diagnosed correctly, unnecessary intervention may be prevented. We aimed to determine the significance and anatomy of RLV in pregnancy and to review and describe their clinical and sonographic appearance. We followed prospectively five patients who presented during pregnancy with clinical symptoms suspicious of an inguinal hernia. All patients were diagnosed with RLV on ultrasound examination. All patients were managed conservatively and i

Round ligament varicosities during pregnancy have not been reported extensively. The swelling mimics an inguinal hernia and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a groin swelling during pregnancy. We report a case of a pregnant woman with bilateral round ligament varicosities. At 22 weeks of pregnancy she was operated on based on the clinical suspicion of a painful inguinal hernia on the right side. Surgical exploration revealed varicosities of the round ligament, and resection was performed. Four weeks later the same diagnosis was made by duplex sonography of a painful swellin

Pelvic vein incompetence is common in patients with atypical varicose veins, contributing to their recurrence after surgery. Therefore, refluxing pelvic veins should be identified and treated. We present our experience with pelvic vein embolisation in patients presenting with varicose veins. Patients presenting with varicose veins with a duplex-proven contribution from perivulval veins undergo transvaginal duplex sonography (TVUS) to identify refluxing pelvic veins. Those with positive scans undergo embolisation before surgical treatment of their lower limb varicose veins. A total of 218 women

INTRODUCTION: Spontaneous rupture of utero-ovarian vessels is a rare cause of haemoperitoneum in pregnancy, leading to significant maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality. Aetiopathogenesis of this condition is still unclear. Establishing clinical diagnosis of this condition is difficult, but very important. Clinical symptoms are nonspecific, and the diagnosis is usually made at laparotomy.
CASE OUTLINE: We report a case of spontaneous haematoperitoneum in the third trimester of twin pregnancy. Differential diagnosis included uterine rupture and placental abruption. Due to the deteriorate

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of successful treatment of a heterotopic cervical pregnancy from IVF-embryo transfer and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) that resulted in uterine varices at the cervical site.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: Tertiary university clinical center.
PATIENT(S): A 34-year-old with a history of infertility associated with oligospermia who developed a heterotopic cervical pregnancy diagnosed at 7 weeks gestation.
INTERVENTION(S): Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS)-guided aspiration of the cervical pregnancy; preoperative placement of bilateral hypogastric artery occlus

Varicose veins in the vulvar and perivulvar area are seen in 4% of women. Most of them are secondary to pregnancy and usually regress spontaneously. Vulvar varicose veins are rare in nonpregnant women. When present, they can be seen alone, associated with leg varices or associated with venous malformations of the labia, clitoral area, or vagina with or without arteriovenous malformations on the limbs or trunk (Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome and Parkes-Weber syndrome). In some cases, vulvar varices are seen as part of the so-called "pelvic congestion syndrome." Clinically, vulvar varices may

A cervical varix during pregnancy is a very rare complication. It can lead to hemorrhage and may result in significant morbidity. Furthermore, appropriate management has not yet been established. We present a case of a cervical varix with placenta previa totalis. A 30-year-old woman with placenta previa totalis also had a cervical varix without bleeding. At 32 weeks' gestation, massive hemorrhage from the cervical varix occurred. A vaginal pack controlled the bleeding, and a cesarean section was subsequently carried out because of uncontrollable uterine contractions. A 1655 g female infant was

The article deals with the findings of studying the haemodynamics of the genital organs by means of duplex scanning in a total of 32 pregnant women presenting with varicosity of genital veins. It was revealed that progression of gestation leads to increasing severity of symptoms and enlarged number of the signs of varicose disease (VD) of the genital organs, with the peak manifestation thereof being observed by the term of delivery. In the postpartum period, noted was a significant decrease in the degree and incidence rate of the major symptoms of VD by day 5-7.
