BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, is a major cause of maternal mortality. Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is the mainstay of therapy for VTE during pregnancy. However, the effects of different LMWH types and dosing regimens on bleeding risk remain unclear.
OBJECTIVES: To compare the risk of major bleeding among pregnant women with acute VTE treated with the most used therapeutic dose LMWH, dalteparin in Québec and enoxaparin in Germany, vs other LMWHs. We also examined the impact of once-daily vs. twice-daily LMWH dosing

We previously demonstrated associations between maternal epilepsy and pregnancy outcomes. Now, we seek to determine whether these outcomes differ between generalized and focal epilepsy. A retrospective cohort study was completed using the HCUP-NIS database. Pregnancy outcomes were compared across generalized and focal epilepsy types, as determined via ICD-9 codes. Of 2,596 pregnancies, 1978 women had focal epilepsy and 618 had generalized epilepsy. Focal epilepsy was associated with increased rates of cesarean sections as compared to generalized epilepsy (aOR = 1.27;95 %CI = 1.02-1.57;p = 0.03

Thrombophilia is influenced by genetic variants, such as Factor V Leiden (FVL) and the prothrombin G20210A mutation. In clinical settings, assessing numerous genetic factors can lead to diagnostic errors and unnecessary treatments. This meta-analysis examines gene variants associated with thrombosis in the Iranian population, where their role in thrombotic disorders remains underexplored. A systematic literature search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, targeting case-control studies published up to July 2025. Studies were included if they evaluated thrombophilia-related

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary embolism presents with nonspecific clinical features, leading to excessive use of computed tomography pulmonary angiography. Although the YEARS rule-incorporating assessment of symptomatic deep vein thrombosis, hemoptysis, and whether pulmonary embolism was the most likely diagnosis-has been shown to help to reduce computed tomography pulmonary angiography exposure during pregnancy, its safety and effectiveness in the postpartum period remain to be elucidated.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a postpartum-adapted YEARS algorithm incorporating elevat

IMPORTANCE: Advanced imaging to diagnose pulmonary embolism (PE) during pregnancy increases costs, ionizing radiation exposure, and the risk of overdiagnosis. D-dimer testing can exclude PE and compression ultrasonography can diagnose deep vein thrombosis (DVT), both reducing advanced imaging needs. How these 2 strategies are used in community PE diagnostics is unknown.
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the use and efficiencies of D-dimer and ultrasonography for the diagnosis of antenatal PE.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This retrospective cohort study was performed in 21 US community hospitals fr

May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is an anatomical variant involving compression of the left iliac vein, predisposing to proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Despite its clinical significance, population-level data remain limited. Using the RIETE (Registro Informatizado Enfermedad Trombo-Embólica) registry (2009-2024), we analyzed proximal DVT patients who underwent advanced imaging (CT-venography, contrast-venography, or MRI). Among 2872 patients with advanced imaging-confirmed proximal DVT, 124 (4.3%) had MTS. MTS patients were more likely to be female (78% vs 52%), younger (mean age 42 vs 62 years

The Achilles tendon plays a vital role in maintaining normal gait and locomotion. The incidence of Achilles tendon rupture (ATR) has been increasing, mainly due to the rising popularity of recreational sports. This review assesses anticoagulation efficacy in preventing venous thromboembolism (VTEs) during ATR treatment and aims to establish an evidence-based prophylaxis protocol. Initially, a comprehensive search across PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), and the Cochrane Library databases, and the citation analysis identified studies on VTE prophylaxis in patients with acute or chronic ATR.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, with pregnancy increasing the risk of VTE four- to five-fold compared with the non-pregnant state and up to 60-fold in the postpartum period. The incidence of pregnancy-related VTE ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 per 1000 pregnancies, with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) accounting for most cases. The heightened thrombotic risk during pregnancy and postpartum stems from physiological adaptations in hemostasis, creating a hypercoagulable state to mitigate hemorrhage risk at delivery. These ch

IMPORTANCE: Superficial vein thrombosis (SuVT) is characterized by thrombus in the superficial veins, typically in the lower or upper extremities, and has an estimated annual incidence of 64 to 131 per 100 000 person-years. Approximately 10% of patients with SuVT progress to deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
OBSERVATIONS: Endothelial injury (caused by infection or intravenous devices), venous stasis (such as from chronic venous insufficiency or prolonged immobility), and hypercoagulability (due to cancer or pregnancy) are pathophysiologic factors associated with SuVT. Cli
