The impact of remote care on the quality of care of pregnant women with diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes during pregnancy, whether gestational (GDM) or pre-existing, is associated with increased maternal and neonatal risks. Remote care has shown promise in diabetes management, however, its impact on antenatal diabetes care remains unclear. This review evaluates its impact compared with usual care for pregnant women with diabetes, using the Institute of Medicine's healthcare quality framework: effectiveness, safety, efficiency, timeliness, patient-centredness, and equity. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Seven electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE

Gestational and neonatal outcomes of women with partial Dunnigan lipodystrophy.

INTRODUCTION: Lipodystrophies are a group of disorders characterized by selective and variable loss of adipose tissue, which can result in an increased risk of insulin resistance and its associated complications. Women with lipodystrophy often have a high frequency of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and may experience gynecological and obstetric complications. The objective of this study was to describe the gestational outcomes of patients with familial partial lipodystrophy type 2 (FPLD2) at a reference center with the aim of improving the understanding and management of pregnant women affec

Association of Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnancy and Perinatal Depression.

OBJECTIVE: Diabetes is frequently linked with depression, and both conditions are common complications during pregnancy. However, research findings exploring the relationship between diabetes mellitus in pregnancy (DMP) and perinatal depression (PND) have been inconsistent. Thus, this study seeks to examine the association between DMP and PND in a prospective population-based cohort. METHODS: Women aged 18 to 48 years ( n = 4459) were identified from the Biology, Affect, Stress, Imaging and Cognition study. The diagnosis of DMP was based on International Classification of Diseases code O24 fr

Risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in women with prior hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: The association between a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and subsequent type 2 diabetes (referred to throughout as diabetes) remains inconclusive. We reviewed the most recent evidence to quantify the association of previous HDP with incident diabetes. METHODS: A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase and CINAHL was performed up to 17 February 2020 to identify observational studies of the association between HDP (pre-eclampsia or gestational hypertension) and incident diabetes. Studies of women with pre-pregnancy diabetes were excluded. Two independent revi

Gestational Diabetes Is Uniquely Associated With Altered Early Seeding of the Infant Gut Microbiota.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a worldwide public health problem affecting up to 27% of pregnancies with high predictive values for childhood obesity and inflammatory diseases. Compromised seeding of the infant gut microbiota is a risk factor for immunologic and metabolic diseases in the offspring; however, how GDM along with maternal obesity interact to alter colonization remains unknown. We hypothesized that GDM individually and in combination with maternal overweight/obesity would alter gut microbial composition, diversity, and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels in neonates. We in

Is Infection an Independent Risk Factor for Venous Thromboembolism? A Population-Based, Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: The independent association of recent infection with venous thromboembolism is uncertain. The study aims were to test both overall infection (site unspecified) and specific infection sites as potential risk factors for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism adjusting for other known venous thromboembolism factors. METHODS: By using Rochester Epidemiology Project resources, we identified all Olmsted County, Minnesota, residents with objectively diagnosed incident deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism over the 13-year period 1988 to 2000 (cases; n = 1303) and 1 to 2 reside

Hydrops fetalis in the stillborn: a series from the central region of Thailand.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the cause of hydrops fetalis (HF) among fetal deaths in the central region of Thailand. Autopsy reports diagnosed as HF from 1999 to 2008 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital were retrieved, and the pathologic findings, clinical information, fetal ultrasonographic studies, and laboratory investigations were reviewed. There were 78 stillborn autopsies during this 10-year period; the mean gestational age was 28 weeks. The causes of fetal hydrops were identified in 88.5%; no cases of immune hydrops were detected. Anemia was the predominant cause of HF (

The pharmacovigilance of olanzapine: results of a post-marketing surveillance study on 8858 patients in England.

Olanzapine is an 'atypical' antipsychotic indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. We analysed adverse events (AEs) reported in primary practice in England. Dispensed prescriptions issued between December 1996 and May 1998 provided exposure data. Questionnaires sent to general practitioners provided outcomes. Frequently reported AEs were: drowsiness/sedation (n = 19), extrapyramidal disorder (n = 13) and unspecified side-effects (n = 33). Events with highest incidence density in first month and reason for stopping were: drowsiness/sedation [n = 153, incidence density (ID)1 18.9], weight g

Emotional factors in juvenile diabetes mellitus: a study of the early life experiences of eight diabetic children.

The developmental history of eight diabetic children was compared with that of their nondiabetic siblings. On the basis of data obtained through interviews with the children and their families, as well as a chart review, we advance the hypothesis that an as yet unspecified metabolic "pre-diabetic" pathophysiological condition may be reflected in disturbances of appetite, satiation and weight regulation appearing early in life in those children who may later develop clinical diabetes mellitus. We further hypothesize that these dysfunctions are accompanied by a disturbance in important psycholog
