From bio-interfacial association to sustained delivery: a lipophilicity-tuned aggregation-induced emission photosensitizer hydrogel for infected wound therapy.

The antimicrobial activity of cationic aggregation-induced emission photosensitizers (AIE-PSs) is strongly influenced by their interactions with microbial interfaces. Here, we examined how cationic valency and lipophilicity affect interfacial association and antimicrobial performance, and whether hydrogel confinement can further regulate local delivery. Four triphenylamine-pyridinium AIE-PSs with different charge states and terminal substituents were compared for lipophilicity, aggregation behavior, reactive oxygen species generation, microbial interfacial association, and antimicrobial activi

Molecular interaction of Candida albicans with polymeric materials: Correlation of single cell adhesion forces, gene expression and surface characteristics.

Candida albicans (C. albicans) is a commensal member of the oral microbiota that can form biofilms, contributing to denture stomatitis. Its initial adhesion to abiotic surfaces is a critical step in biofilm formation and is strongly influenced by the material's physicochemical properties. Surface roughness, surface free energy (SFE), and salivary components play key roles in mediating fungal-material interactions. Polymeric materials are components of denture materials, so understanding the interactions with C. albicans is essential to clarify the mechanisms underlying early fungal adhesion. H

ATP-driven dynamics and itraconazole binding of the drug efflux pump Cdr1 from Candida glabrata.

Azole resistance in Candida species is often caused by the overexpression of Cdr1. Despite its clinical relevance, the structural basis for its ATP-driven efflux pump function remains elusive. We present four high-resolution cryo-EM structures of Candida glabrata Cdr1 obtained in the absence and presence of ATP-Mg²⁺, itraconazole, and vanadate, capturing distinct nucleotide- and substrate-occupancy states. Additional low-population cryo-EM conformers were unveiled by 3D variability analysis, offering a detailed view of structural transitions linked with ATP-hydrolysis. The motion shows a 4 Å p
