STUDY QUESTION: What factors influence the decision-making process of fathers regarding multifetal pregnancy reduction or maintaining a triplet pregnancy, and how do these decisions impact their psychological well-being?
SUMMARY ANSWER: For fathers, the emotional impact of multifetal pregnancy reduction or caring for triplets is extensive and requires careful consideration.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Multifetal pregnancy reduction is a medical procedure with the purpose to reduce the number of fetuses to improve chances of a healthy outcome for both the remaining fetus(es) and the mother, either

There are limited U.S. reports of spontaneous triplet heterotopic pregnancies discussing both maternal and fetal outcomes. A 34-year-old patient at 7 weeks of gestation presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with a spontaneous heterotopic triplet pregnancy, consisting of a twin monochorionic-diamniotic intrauterine gestation and a ruptured left ectopic pregnancy. She underwent a laparoscopic unilateral salpingectomy. Her antepartum course was complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus and fetal growth restriction. Delivery of liveborn twins was via a ces

UNLABELLED: There is some evidence that in twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence, intervention at early gestational age could prevent a spontaneous death of the pump twin, achieving a better global survival.
OBJECTIVE: To review the perinatal outcomes of early intervention in pregnancies complicated by twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence.
STUDY DESIGN: A comprehensive search from inception to December 2022 was conducted on databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and LILACS. All studies that reported intervention in twin or triplet pregnancy complicated with TRA

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of infant mortality associated with critical congenital heart disease (CCHD).
METHODS: In a cross-sectional study, data for the study were obtained through Death Notification System, Birth Notification System and Turkish Statistical Institute birth statistics.
RESULTS: Of all infant deaths, 9.8% (4083) were associated with CCHD, and the infant mortality rate specific to CCHD was 8.8 per 10,000 live births. CCHD-related infant deaths accounted for 8.0% of all neonatal deaths, while the CCHD specific neonatal death rate was 4

BACKGROUND: The condition of monozygotic, monochorionic triplet fetuses with a pair of conjoined twins is extremely rare (close to one in a million births), presents challenges in its management, and with poor prognosis.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of monochorionic diamniotic triplet pregnancy, ultrasound at 14 weeks shows a pair of conjoined thoracopagus fetuses, sharing heart, liver, and umbilical cord, in addition to omphalocele. The third fetus, without malformations, presents signs of early heart failure compatible with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. It was decided to carry out exp

BACKGROUND: Adults with PKU have difficulty maintaining plasma phenylalanine (Phe) in the range that is safe for neurologic function. Elevated plasma Phe is a risk factor for congenital anomalies and developmental delay in offspring resulting from pregnancies with poor Phe control in women with PKU. Enzyme supplementation with pegvaliase allows adults with PKU to eat an unrestricted diet and have plasma Phe levels in a safe range for pregnancy but pegvaliase has not been approved for use in pregnant females with PKU. We report the results of chart review of 14 living offspring of females affec

Heterotopic triplet pregnancy, cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy, and pregnancy following uterine ablation are all rare events that confer significant morbidity including spontaneous abortion, intrauterine fetal demise, preterm labor, abnormal placentation, and uterine rupture. A woman in her 30s, G6P4014, with a history of uterine ablation presented with delayed menses and vaginal spotting with imaging showing two intrauterine pregnancies (one with cardiac activity) and one live pregnancy at the cesarean scar. The patient was extensively counseled on risk to her and to the pregnancies; treatmen

OBJECTIVE: In singleton pregnancies, the use of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis as a screening test for common fetal trisomies has spread worldwide though we still lack sufficient data for its use in triplet pregnancies. The objective of this study is to assess the performance of cfDNA testing in detecting fetal aneuploidies in triplet pregnancies as a first-tier test.
METHOD: We performed a retrospective cohort study including data from pregnant women with a triplet pregnancy who underwent cfDNA testing between May 1, 2017, and January 15, 2020. cfDNA was obtained by massive parallel sequenci

OBJECTIVE: Triplet gestations are associated with increased maternal, fetal, and neonatal complications particularly early and extreme preterm delivery. Identifying and interrupting the preterm delivery cascade could prevent the fetal, neonatal, and long-term childhood complications. The shared circulation and placental vascular anastomosis are responsible for the occurrence of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, selective fetal growth restriction as well as the higher risk of morbidity and mortality observed in mono and dichorionic compared to trichorionic triplet gestations. Thus, the aim of

BACKGROUND: It is generally beneficial and recommended that dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies be reduced to monochorionic (MC) twin or singleton pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). However, some infertile couples still have a firm desire to retain twins. For this reason, the best foetal reduction strategies need to be available for infertile couples and clinicians. Given that data on the elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies to twin pregnancies are scarce, we investigated the outcomes of elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies through the

G3P2L1, 28+4 weeks of gestation rhesus (Rh) isoimmunised pregnant women, was referred with trichorionic triamniotic triplet pregnancy with Rh antibody titres of 1:32. Nuchal translucency and anomaly scan were within normal limits with no major malformation for any of the fetuses. Obstetric colour Doppler with middle cerebral artery peak systolic volume revealed foetal anaemia in all three fetuses having velocities corresponding to around 1.5 times the median. Decision of intrauterine transfusion of blood to all three fetuses was taken. Access to fetuses was challenging and expertise in interve

Introduction: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of chorionicity on maternal, fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in triplet pregnancies in our environment. Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried out on triplet pregnancies that were delivered in a tertiary center between 2006 and 2020. A total of 76 pregnant women, 228 fetuses and 226 live newborns were analyzed. Of these triplet pregnancies, half were non-trichorionic. We analyzed maternal characteristics and obstetric, fetal, perinatal and neonatal complications based on their chorionicity, comparing t

Multiple pregnancies are infrequently encountered, with the incidence of spontaneous triplet pregnancies estimated at approximately 1 in 7000 pregnancies. Triplet gestations are recognized for their propensity to bring about a spectrum of pregnancy related complexities, encompassing fetal structural abnormalities, neurological anomalies, disturbances in amniotic fluid levels, preterm labor, and suboptimal neonatal outcomes. Anencephaly is a serious congenital defect where the brain and skull do not fully develop, often leading to a poor prognosis. It's a preventable neural tube defect (NTD) wi

OBJECTIVE: Monochorionic-triamniotic (MCTA) triplet pregnancies following artificial reproductive technologies are uncommon. We report a case in which one of two transferred embryos differentiated into an MCTA triplet. This study aimed to investigate the potential factors contributing to MCTA triplet pregnancy.
CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old woman underwent her second frozen embryo transfer with hatching blastocysts, which resulted in the detection of an MCTA triplet on ultrasonography. She delivered by cesarean section at 32 weeks of gestation, resulting in the birth of three live male infants.

BACKGROUND: The worldwide occurrence of triplet pregnancy is estimated to be 0.093%, with a natural incidence of approximately 1 in 8000. This study aims to analyze the neonatal health status and birth weight discordance (BWD) of triplets based on chorionicity from birth until discharge.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study. We reviewed a total of 136 triplet pregnancies at our tertiary hospital between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2021. Maternal and neonatal outcomes, inter-triplet BWD, neonatal morbidity, and mortality were analyzed.
RESULTS: Among all cases, the rates of intrauter

OBJECTIVE: To share the initial experience of trans-abdominal multifetal pregnancy reduction (MFPR) in Nepal.
METHOD: The procedure was performed in 108 patients in a private hospital over a period of 3 years. Under ultrasound guidance, intracardiac injection of 0.2-3.0 ml of 15% w/v (2 mEq/ml) potassium chloride (KCl) was administered via trans-abdominal route.
RESULTS: A total of 108 fetal reduction procedures were carried out at the seventh to fifteenth weeks of gestation, a maximum of 44 (40.7%) of which were done at the ninth to tenth weeks of gestation. A total of 123 fetuses were redu

BACKGROUND: The increase in the rate of multiple pregnancies in clinical practice is associated with assisted reproductive technology (ART). Given the high risk of dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies, reducing DCTA triplet pregnancies to twin or singleton pregnancies is often beneficial.
CASE PRESENTATION: This article reports on two cases of DCTA triplet pregnancies resulting from two blastocyst transfers. Given the high risk of complications such as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) in monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies, patients have a strong desire to p
