Husband involvement in antenatal care moderates the link between vitamin D status and depressive symptoms in pregnant women.

AIMS: The association between a pregnant mother's vitamin D status and depressive symptoms has yielded inconsistent results. It is possible that other factors play a role in this association, as depression can have multiple causes. Recognizing the significance of the husband's participation in antenatal care, this study aimed to examine whether the husband's involvement moderates the link between the mother's vitamin D status and depressive symptoms during pregnancy. METHODS: A total of 2983 Chinese married pregnant women, in their 25-35 weeks of pregnancy, completed questionnaires to assess

Blood transcriptomic signatures associated with depression, or the risk for depression, in pregnant women from the Psychiatry Research And Motherhood - Depression (PRAM-D) study.

During pregnancy multiple biological systems undergo consistent modifications, in particular the hormonal axes and the immune system. Moreover, while it is well known that pregnant women suffering from depression show alterations in these systems, the exact underlying mechanisms are still not clear. For this reason, in this study, we explored the blood transcriptomic profile and related pathways in 41 pregnant women with a current diagnosis of depression, 23 pregnant women, who were not depressed in pregnancy but, because of a history of depressive episodes, were considered at high risk of dev

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: an overview of recent genetic and clinical advances.

Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited kidney disease, characterized by the progressive development of multiple kidney cysts, leading to a gradual decline in kidney function. ADPKD is also the fourth leading cause of kidney failure (KF) in adults. In addition to kidney manifestations, ADPKD is associated with various extrarenal features, including liver cysts, cardiovascular abnormalities, intracranial aneurysms, and chronic pain with significant impact on patients' quality of life. While several disease-modifying agents have been tested in ADPKD, tol

Risk Factors for Prenatal Anxiety in European Women: A Review.

Background: Prenatal anxiety is a common problem affecting a large number of women. The presence of anxiety during pregnancy is associated with adverse consequences for both the mother and the baby. The main objective of this review was to determine the risk factors associated with anxiety during pregnancy in European women. Specifically, we wanted to know if these factors are the same as those found in other continents and if they are similar to those associated with depression during this stage. Methods: A literature review was carried out on studies that were published in the last 10 years

Associations of Genetically Predicted NPR3 and NPR2 Perturbation and Preeclampsia Risk: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Analysis.

Background: Preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication marked by hypertension after 20 weeks of gestation, arises from placental factors that impair maternal vascular function. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), known for its vasodilatory role, may help counter preeclampsia-related vascular dysfunction. This study aimed to explore the effect of CNP on preeclampsia risk using the Mendelian randomization (MR) framework. Methods: Genetic instrumental variables that mimic the effects of CNP signaling (through natriuretic peptide receptor 2 [NPR2] activation or reduced NPR3-mediated clearance) were iden

Predictive Models Using Machine Learning to Identify Fetal Growth Restriction in Patients With Preeclampsia: Development and Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a common complication of preeclampsia. FGR in patients with preeclampsia increases the risk of neonatal-perinatal mortality and morbidity. However, previous prediction methods for FGR are class-biased or clinically unexplainable, which makes it difficult to apply to clinical practice, leading to a relative delay in intervention and a lack of effective treatments. OBJECTIVE: The study aims to develop an auxiliary diagnostic model based on machine learning (ML) to predict the occurrence of FGR in patients with preeclampsia. METHODS: This study used
