Review of Ultrasound Diagnosis of Ichthyosis in Fetuses.

Congenital ichthyoses are inherited disorders in which the outer layer of the skin forms abnormally. Prenatal ultrasound can show a recognizable pattern in some affected fetuses, but most published evidence comes from case reports and small case series. This narrative review summarizes sonographic findings that have been reported, when they became visible, and how they should be interpreted in clinical practice. The strongest imaging literature concerns harlequin ichthyosis. Reported findings include ectropion, eclabium or persistent mouth opening, a flattened nasal contour, fixed flexion of t

Case Report: Neonatal lethality caused by novel compound heterozygous missense variants of SLC6A9 gene.

BACKGROUND: The homozygous or compound heterozygous missense variants in the SLC6A9 gene (OMIM*601019) are associated with autosomal recessive glycine encephalopathy with normal serum glycine (OMIM#617301). Fewer than ten SLC6A9 variants have been reported to date. Neonates harboring pathogenic variants in the SLC6A9 gene exhibited a mortality rate of up to 75% during the first 7 months of life. We reported the first documented case of neonate death in China attributable to compound heterozygous missense SLC6A9 variants. METHODS: Trio-based whole-exome sequencing (trio-WES) was performed on g

A Rare Case of Acardiac Acephalus Fetus in Monochorionic Twins.

Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is a rare obstetric complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies characterized by an acardiac fetus hemodynamically dependent on a structurally normal "pump" twin. It is frequently misdiagnosed as intrauterine fetal demise due to absent cardiac activity in the anomalous twin. A 28-year-old pregnant woman (G2P1L1) with a history of a previous cesarean section presented at 24 weeks of gestation following an external ultrasound suggesting single fetal demise in a monochorionic twin pregnancy. Institutional re-evaluation with color Doppler ultraso

FullSynesth: Syntenic Reconciliation of a Set of Consistent Gene Trees.

We present FullSynesth, a tree reconciliation algorithm predicting the evolution of a set of homologous genomic regions or syntenies, inside a species tree. The considered evolutionary model involves segmental events (i.e. acting on multiple genes) including duplications (D), losses (L), synteny fissions and transfers possibly going through unsampled or extinct species. Formally, given a set of syntenies in a set of genomes and a set G of consistent gene trees for the gene families composing the syntenies, the problem is to infer a most parsimonious evolutionary history explaining the observed

Evaluating the safety and outcomes of third-trimester selective termination in dichorionic twin pregnancies with discordant anomalies-a standardized approach for counseling.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate procedure-related preterm birth (PTB) following third-trimester selective termination (ST) in DC twins and to compare delivery timing with expectantly managed discordant DC twins and non-anomalous DC twins. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted of all DC twin pregnancies undergoing third-trimester ST (> 28 weeks) at a tertiary care center (2003-2023). Pregnancies were classified as having procedure-related complications (delivery ≤ 4 weeks) or uneventful (delivery > 4 weeks). Comparator cohorts included expectantly managed discordant DC twins and non-anoma

Challenges of pregnancy in pancreas-kidney transplant recipients: Experience from our center.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chronic kidney disease affects up to 6% of women of childbearing age, leading to fertility issues and low pregnancy rates. In patients with diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease, simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation restores renal function and endogenous insulin production, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful pregnancy. However, pregnancy after transplantation remains high-risk. Several factors may influence maternal and fetal outcomes, including preconception counseling, appropriate maternal medical management, and the careful selection o

Tracheal agenesis diagnosed by supraglottic airway-assisted endoscopic evaluation during neonatal resuscitation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Tracheal agenesis is an exceptionally rare and typically lethal congenital airway anomaly presenting with failed intubation. We report a case of unrecognized tracheal agenesis in which supraglottic airway-assisted ventilation enabled concurrent fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation during neonatal resuscitation. CASE PRESENTATION: A preterm male neonate born at 31 weeks and 1 day of gestation with polyhydramnios and suspected duodenal atresia developed severe respiratory failure immediately after delivery. Repeated attempts at tracheal intubation were unsuccessful despite vocal cord–lik

Dialysis and Pregnancy: Optimizing Therapy for Best Maternal and Fetal Outcomes.

Pregnancy in women with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) requiring dialysis remains high risk, with significant maternal and fetal complications. While fertility rates are markedly reduced in this population, advances in dialysis care and obstetric management have led to increasing reports of successful pregnancies. Important maternal adverse outcomes include early pregnancy loss, preeclampsia, polyhydramnios, and cesarean delivery, while common adverse fetal outcomes are preterm birth, low birth weight, and high neonatal intensive care utilization. Evidence consistently demonstrates that dialy

Predictive value of OGTT parameters and clinical markers in gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective randomized controlled trial from a tertiary center in Türkiye.

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains a major obstetric concern, yet the optimal screening strategy and the prognostic value of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) parameters remain debated. We aimed to compare the diagnostic yield and clinical outcomes of a two-step OGTT strategy (50 g glucose challenge followed by 100 g OGTT) versus a one-step 75 g OGTT approach, and to evaluate the predictive performance of individual OGTT time points for pregnancy complications and treatment requirement. METHODS: In this prospective randomized controlled trial, 1,439 pregnant women underg
