OBJECTIVE: This prospective randomized study compared the effects of two uterotonic drugs, oxytocin and carbetocin, on hemostatic parameters in patients undergoing spontaneous vaginal delivery.
METHODS: One hundred women aged between 18 and 40 years, with term singleton pregnancies who underwent spontaneous vaginal delivery were enrolled in the study. Women with induced labor, preterm deliveries, multiple pregnancies, hypertension, macrosomia, polyhydramnios, and chronic disease were excluded. When women are admitted to the delivery room during the active phase of labor, eligible participants

Esophageal atresia type 1 is a rare birth defect that involves the loss of esophageal continuity without the presence of a tracheoesophageal fistula. In prenatal testing, polyhydramnios and the absence of a gastric bubble were observed. At birth, sialorrhea, cyanosis, and difficulty progressing the orogastric tube were noted. Although minimally invasive surgery with preservation of the native esophagus represents an innovative strategy to reduce morbidity and improve quality of life, it hasn't yet become the standard management due to its technical requirements and low volume of global cases.

OBJECTIVES: Premature constriction of the fetal ductus arteriosus is a clinically relevant cause of fetal cardiac compromise. Maternal exposure to prostaglandin-inhibiting analgesics is a recognized trigger. We describe two pregnancies complicated by fetal ductus arteriosus constriction temporally associated with maternal analgesic use.
CASE PRESENTATION: In the first case, ductal constriction occurred after a seven-day course of indomethacin initiated at 28 weeks' gestation for polyhydramnios. Although initial improvement followed drug discontinuation, recurrent constriction with right ventr

BACKGROUND: Gestational weight gain (GWG) and hyperglycemia identified via the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) are critical factors influencing adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, the applicability of universal management standards for these factors across specific patient populations remains a subject of critical clinical inquiry. The objective of this study is to examine the independent and synergistic effects of different OGTT-based hyperglycemia phenotypes and GWG on adverse feto-maternal outcomes in women with GDM.
METHODS: From a total cohort of 52,942 parturients, this study includ

OBJECTIVE: To assess the diagnostic yield of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and exome sequencing (ES) in fetuses with central nervous system (CNS) anomalies across two study periods (January 2008 to June 2016 and July 2016 to December 2024), and to evaluate long-term outcomes.
METHODS: This retrospective study included cases with fetal CNS anomalies undergoing invasive testing by G-banded karyotyping and, in selected cases, additional CMA and/or ES. Fetuses were classified into four groups: isolated CNS malformations, isolated CNS plus (additional minor abnormalities and dynamic findin

INTRODUCTION: Data with a high level of evidence is lacking on the use of prophylactic uterotonic drug following vaginal delivery to prevent postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) among women who were considered high-risk for PPH. Our main objective was to compare the effectiveness of prophylactic carbetocin versus oxytocin in preventing PPH after vaginal delivery among women at high risk.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective before-and-after single-center comparative study, including all high-risk women after vaginal births. Two consecutive 14-month periods were compared, where the prophy

Congenital sodium diarrhea (CSD) is a rare inherited enteropathy. We report a case of non-syndromic CSD (non-sCSD) diagnosed prenatally. Serial ultrasounds from 22 weeks and 5 days to 28 weeks and 6 days revealed progressive rectal dilation (0.80-1.86 cm), rectal hyperperistalsis, evolving small bowel dilation with a "honeycomb" pattern and polyhydramnios. Projectile meconium expulsion at 28 weeks and 6 days confirmed intrauterine diarrhea. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) on amniotic fluid identified compound heterozygous pathogenic variants in the SLC9A3 gene, confirming the diagnosis. To our kn

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate which of the different sonographic definitions of isolated polyhydramnios (elevated amniotic fluid index [AFI] alone, elevated maximum vertical pocket [MVP] alone, or both elevated AFI and MVP) is best associated with adverse perinatal outcomes.
STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective case-control study included singleton pregnancies undergoing sonographic surveillance at a tertiary referral center between February 2021 and January 2026. Cases of isolated polyhydramnios identified during this time-period were compared with pregnancies with normal amniotic fluid volume from 202

Polyhydramnios is defined as an abnormal increase in amniotic fluid volume and is most commonly diagnosed during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Although the majority of cases are idiopathic, polyhydramnios may also be associated with maternal conditions, fetal structural anomalies, and rare genetic disorders. We present the case of a 35-year-old G3P1102 patient at 27 weeks and 2 days of gestation who presented with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) and preterm labor. Obstetric ultrasonography demonstrated severe polyhydramnios with an amniotic fluid index (AFI) of 57.

Pregnant women with obesity are at increased risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, including gestational diabetes and hypertensive disorders. Although bariatric surgery is an effective long-term treatment for obesity, its effects on pregnancy and postpartum outcomes remain incompletely understood. This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the impact of bariatric surgery on maternal and neonatal outcomes. The study was conducted between May 2022 and January 2024 at national obesity and healthcare clinics and included 170 pregnant women, of whom 87 had a history of bariatric su

INTRODUCTION: Severe polyhydramnios is associated with fetal anomalies and adverse perinatal outcomes. The safety of amnioreduction in singleton pregnancies remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate pregnancy outcomes and procedure-related complications of amnioreduction in singleton pregnancies with severe polyhydramnios, excluding other invasive procedures apart from diagnostic amniocentesis.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of amnioreduction procedures performed in 40 singleton pregnancies at a fetal therapy referral center (2013-2024). Inclusion criteria were severe polyhydramnios (defined by

Fetal ultrasound is the primary screening modality for routine prenatal examinations, but its effectiveness can be influenced by factors such as maternal body habitus, polyhydramnios, or fetal position. Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is well established for fetal brain and body imaging, cardiac assessment has been restricted by the absence of reliable cardiac gating and motion compensation strategies. Only recently have advances in fetal cardiac rhythm monitoring within the MRI scanner enabled retrospective gating, paving the way for clinical use of fetal cardiac MRI. However, a rep

Fetal overgrowth is defined as one or more biometric parameters exceeding the 90th-97th percentile or 2 standard deviations above the mean for gestational age. This study aimed to evaluate genetic findings in foetuses diagnosed with sonographic overgrowth. We retrospectively analysed 78 singleton pregnancies that underwent invasive prenatal diagnosis between 2018 and 2024. Fetal overgrowth was defined based on biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), and/or abdominal circumference (AC), and cases were categorized into three groups according to the pattern of enlargement: head enlarg

Neonatal cervical teratomas are rare congenital tumors that may cause life-threatening airway compromise despite their predominantly benign histology. We report a male neonate born at 38 weeks of gestation by elective Caesarean section due to a large prenatal neck mass and polyhydramnios. Shortly after birth, the infant developed severe respiratory distress requiring endotracheal intubation following transfer to our institution. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated a 10 × 12 × 13.5 cm heterogeneous mass centered within the oropharyngeal/oral cavity and submandibular spaces with e

Monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies are associated with a high risk of complications due to shared placental vascular anastomoses, which predispose fetuses to twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS). Early recognition of subtle hemodynamic alterations is essential, as borderline forms of these conditions may progress rapidly and jeopardize fetal well-being. This case report presents a 30-year-old gravida 2, para 1, with an MCDA twin pregnancy complicated by borderline TTTS and TAPS, who underwent fetoscopic laser therapy despite not me
