Ascending infection of Gardnerella spp. and compartmentalized inflammatory response in fetal-maternal interface organ-on-chip model.

Preterm birth is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, with ascending infection and inflammation at the fetal-maternal interface recognized as major contributors to its pathophysiology. Gardnerella spp., key species associated with bacterial vaginosis, have been implicated in adverse pregnancy outcomes; however, the mechanisms underlying their ability to ascend and trigger inflammatory responses remain poorly understood. In this study, we used a fetal-maternal interface organ-on-chip model to investigate the ascending infection of Gardnerella spp. and the resulting com

ACE-related renal tubular dysgenesis (RTD-ACE) in a neonate surviving beyond the early neonatal period.

Renal tubular dysgenesis (RTD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of renal development caused by disruption of the foetal renin-angiotensin system, most commonly due to pathogenic variants in the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene. The condition is classically associated with antenatal oligohydramnios or anhydramnios, refractory neonatal hypotension, and anuric kidney failure, with extremely high perinatal mortality. We report a preterm neonate with genetically confirmed RTD-ACE who survived beyond the neonatal period following early initiation of peritoneal dialysis and targeted sup

Recurrent Diffuse Chorioamniotic Hemosiderosis of the Placenta in a Mother With Congenital Heart Disease.

A woman in her mid-20s with repaired congenital heart disease (CHD) delivered a 33-week neonate in 2024 following preterm labor and a 24-week neonate in 2025 for non-reassuring fetal heart tones. Placental examination in both cases revealed grossly abnormal, red-brown discolored membranes with a circumvallate insertion. Histologic evaluation demonstrated diffuse chorioamniotic hemosiderosis (DCH) in both cases. This report describes a novel case of recurrent DCH in a mother with CHD and proposes that Fontan physiology may contribute to impaired uteroplacental perfusion, increasing the risk for

[The Amniotic Fluid Index Does Not Predict Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes among Women with Rupture of Membranes at Term].

INTRODUCTION: Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) refers to the spontaneous rupture of membranes before the onset of labor. PROM, regardless of gestational age, is linked to increased risks of perinatal infections and umbilical cord compression. Amniotic fluid plays a crucial role in fetal development and growth, and its volume is essential for proper fetal well-being. Measurement of amniotic fluid volume (AFV) through prenatal ultrasound has become a standard practice in fetal monitoring. While numerous studies have explored the relationship between AFV and preterm PROM, few have focused on

Structural and functional foetal renal abnormalities as a mechanism of oligohydramnios in a guinea pig model of growth restriction.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying oligohydramnios in foetal growth restriction (FGR), focusing on the contribution of renal structural and functional abnormalities. A guinea pig model of maternal nutrient restriction (MNR) was established to induce FGR. Pregnant guinea pigs were divided into control and MNR groups. Foetuses were classified as appropriate for gestational age (AGA) or FGR based on body weight. Amniotic fluid and foetal kidneys were collected at gestational days 60-61. Amniotic fluid biomarkers were measured. Histopathology was performed to evaluate

Co-Occurrence of Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type III and Chronic Abruption-Oligohydramnios Sequence: A Case Report Suggesting a Possible Role of Type I Collagen Fragility.

Pregnancy complicated by severe osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is rare, and chronic abruption-oligohydramnios sequence (CAOS) is an uncommon obstetric disorder characterized by persistent bleeding and oligohydramnios without membrane rupture. To our knowledge, this is the first report describing the coexistence of type III OI and CAOS. A 24-year-old woman with OI developed recurrent bleeding early in pregnancy. Genetic testing revealed a novel COL1A1 splice-site variant (c.1876-2A>C). Ultrasonography showed a circumferential subchorionic hematoma and progressive fluid loss, leading to CAOS diagn
