Influence of perineal tears and body image disturbance on postpartum sexual quality of life: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Whether perineal injury severity independently determines postpartum sexual quality of life (SQoL) is unclear. This study evaluated perineal tears and body image as determinants of SQoL and sexual resumption timing. METHODS: A total of 173 women (2-24 months postpartum, vaginal delivery) completed an online questionnaire including the SQoL-F and Body Image Scale (BIS). Women with perineal tear/episiotomy (PT/E; n = 118) were compared with those with an intact perineum (n = 51) using multivariate regression. RESULTS: SQoL-F scores were similar between groups (71.1 ± 23.3 vs 76.9 ±

Impact of episiotomy on anal incontinence following second- to fourth-degree perineal tears-A cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Anal incontinence can have a significant negative impact on quality of life. The leading cause of anal incontinence among women of child-bearing age is obstetric-related perineal injury. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of episiotomy on the incidence of anal incontinence among primiparous women with second-, third-, or fourth-degree perineal tears at 8 weeks and 1 year postpartum and to assess change in incidence over time across varying degrees of perineal tears. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This Swedish cohort study included 12 658 primiparous women who sustained

A Swift Solution: Early Removal of the JADA Device in the Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage.

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) continues to be a major threat to maternal health worldwide. Current management strategies include uterotonic agents, intrauterine tamponade devices, and surgical interventions. These methods have variable efficacy, carry potential complications, and contribute to significant healthcare costs. The JADA device is an emerging and promising tool for managing PPH. We report the case of a 19-year-old G2P1011 at 39w3d who experienced uterine atony following a spontaneous vaginal delivery. Despite administration of Pitocin and tranexamic acid, the patient continued to have

Women's experiences of wound dehiscence of a second-degree perineal tear and choice of treatment in Denmark: a qualitative interview study.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe women's experiences of perineal wound dehiscence of a second-degree perineal tear and choice of resuturing or conservative treatment in the first two months after birth. DESIGN: A qualitative descriptive study using individual semistructured interviews was conducted. Data were analysed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis approach to explore women's experiences and perspectives on dehisced perineal wounds of a second-degree perineal tear. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed concurrently with data collection.

Implementing a Four-Step Evidence-Based Pushing Protocol for Labor and Birth.

OBJECTIVE: First, to determine whether implementing an evidence-based practice pushing protocol for pregnant individuals in the second stage of labor with an epidural affects the observed duration of the second stage of labor, the degree of perineal laceration, and the use of operative vaginal birth compared with standard practice. Second, to determine whether implementing an educational session on the protocol increases the frequency of nursing documentation of flexible sacrum positioning, investigation of fetal position, interventions to prevent lower-extremity nerve injury, and use of warm

Postpartum Urinary Retention in Vaginal Delivery Women Under Epidural Analgesia: Risk Factors and Nursing Strategies.

The widespread use of epidural labor analgesia has introduced new challenges in postpartum bladder function management. Postpartum urinary retention (PUR) not only causes maternal discomfort but may also lead to bladder overdistension and long-term voiding dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for PUR in women undergoing vaginal delivery under epidural analgesia and to develop a predictive model for early identification of high-risk individuals. A retrospective case-control study was conducted on 1002 parturients who underwent vaginal delivery under epidur

Risk factors associated with deep perineal wound dehiscence after second-degree perineal tears or episiotomy.

INTRODUCTION: Second-degree perineal tears and episiotomies, involving the bulbocavernosus and/or superficial transverse perineal muscles, are common after vaginal birth and may lead to wound dehiscence, infection, and long-term pelvic floor dysfunction. Despite this, risk factors for deep wound dehiscence involving perineal musculature remain insufficiently studied. This study aimed to identify risk factors for wound dehiscence in second-degree tears and episiotomies to inform potential use of antibiotic prophylaxis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A single-center case-control study (1:2 ratio) was co
