Successful use of recombinant ADAMTS13 in a pregnant patient with immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

We report the first case of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) successfully treated with recombinant ADAMTS13 (rhADAMTS13) during pregnancy. A 36-year-old woman with a history of severe iTTP and persistently undetectable ADAMTS13 activity despite multiple immunosuppressive therapies, remained relapse free for 10 years. In the 33rd week of pregnancy, she showed the first signs of relapse, whereupon rhADAMTS13 40 IU/kg was administered twice daily. ADAMTS13 activity and platelet count recovered rapidly, allowing a healthy newborn to be delivered safely by cesarean section

Association of cesarean section with asthma and atopic dermatitis in infants from the Japan Environment and Children's Study.

Recently, the rates of allergic diseases and cesarean delivery have increased worldwide. Some reports describe associations between allergic diseases and cesarean delivery. However, the association between allergic diseases and cesarean delivery is controversial. In this study, we investigated the association between cesarean delivery and the development of wheezing and eczema among infants at 1 year of age. We used data including those of 104,065 fetal records and their children from the Japan Environment and Children's Study. Information about the mode of delivery, wheezing, eczema, asthma,

The Dose-Dependent Effect of Obesity on Adverse Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes in a Hispanic Population.

This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes associated with maternal obesity in a Hispanic population. We hypothesized that obesity confers a dose-dependent risk associated with these outcomes. This was a retrospective cohort study of singleton pregnancies delivered between 24 and 42 weeks gestation at an urban county hospital between 2013 and 2021. Body mass index (BMI) at the first prenatal visit was used as a proxy for prepregnancy weight. Patients were excluded if their first-trimester BMI was not available. Trends in adverse outcomes across increasi

Determinants of caesarean section use in Ghana: A trend analysis of 2003-2022 DHS data.

The global rise in caesarean section (CS) delivery has raised significant public health concerns, particularly regarding drivers and potential health implications. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends CS rates between 5% and 15%, global averages exceed this range, with regional disparities and medically unjustified procedures contributing to the increase. In Ghana, similar trends are emerging amid infrastructural and referral system limitations, yet limited studies have used nationally representative data to track changes over time. This study used data from the 2003, 2008,

Misoprostol Versus Oxytocin for Labor Induction in Term Prelabor Rupture of Membranes: A Systematic Review of Their Efficacy and Safety.

Prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM) at term is a common obstetric event requiring safe and effective labor induction. While oxytocin has traditionally been used for this purpose, misoprostol offers a potentially advantageous alternative due to its multiple routes of administration. This systematic review aims to compare the efficacy and safety of misoprostol versus oxytocin for labor induction in women with term PROM. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and ClinicalTrials.gov for studies published in the last five years. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and com

Caesarean section rates and indications: a cross-sectional study from a tertiary care centre in Türkiye.

BACKGROUND: Globally, including in Türkiye, caesarean section (C-section) rates have been rising steadily, largely due to changes in clinical practices, maternal preferences, medico-legal concerns, and healthcare system dynamics. This study aims to investigate the impact of a high patient load on C-section rates and their indications within a tertiary care setting. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted on women with deliveries over four years, from June 1, 2020, to May 1, 2025. For pairwise comparisons, numerical and nominal variables were analysed with independent t-test or Pearson

Induction-to-delivery time interval under general anesthesia and neonatal intensive care unit admissions: a single-center retrospective cross-sectional study in planned cesarean deliveries (2014-2024).

BACKGROUND: Prolonged induction-to-delivery (ID) interval during general anesthesia for cesarean delivery increases fetal exposure to anesthetic agents, potentially elevating the risk of neonatal depression. We hypothesized that ID interval is associated with a higher likelihood of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission in women undergoing general anesthesia for cesarean delivery. METHODS: In this single-center retrospective study, we analyzed clinical data from 1,204 pregnant women who met the following criteria: gestational age ≥ 35 weeks, singleton pregnancy, neonatal birth weight ≥

Cesarean section and socioeconomic status are associated with Bifidobacterium abundance and intestinal physiology: observations from a cross-sectional study in formula-fed infants.

BACKGROUND: Development of the gut microbiota in the first months of life is influenced by multiple environmental factors such as type of birth and diet which may have prolonged impact on growth and health. However, in developing countries such as Mexico, with high rates of cesarean deliveries, knowledge about gut microbiota development in early life stages are still limited. RESULTS: Through characterization, by 16S sequencing, of 307 formula-fed infants aged 1–4 months, we identified that abundance of key taxa was highly associated with birth mode and that socioeconomic status (evaluated as
