Evaluating the effect of two different training interventions on improving vaginal twin birth rates and provider confidence and knowledge levels: A pre- and post-intervention study.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the increasing trend in cesarean section rates in multiple pregnancies, vaginal delivery in twin pregnancies appears both possible and safe. METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study compared outcomes before and after the implementation of a vaginal twin intervention in two Italian hospitals. In January 2021 in Pescara and in July 2022 in Florence, physicians with expertise in twin and breech vaginal birth started working in each center, and clinicians and midwives started quarterly training in these skills. The study period was divided into two equal time intervals and

Setting of Induction of Labour with Double-Balloon Catheter in Low-risk Pregnancies: Outpatient Versus Inpatient.

OBJECTIVES: Induction of labour is one of the most frequently performed obstetric procedures. This analysis aimed to assess maternal and neonatal outcomes after labour induction with a double-balloon catheter in an outpatient versus inpatient setting in low-risk term pregnancies. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 1010 women with singleton, low-risk term pregnancies undergoing labour induction with a double-balloon catheter were analysed. Of these, 394 received outpatient and 616 inpatient cervical ripening. The primary outcome was the caesarean section rate; secondary outcomes incl

Intravenous Bolus Phenylephrine and Intravenous Bolus Norepinephrine for Treatment of Maternal Hypotension in Spinal Anesthesia During Cesarean Section: A Prospective, Randomized, Comparative Study.

Background A fall in maternal blood pressure is frequently encountered following spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. This hemodynamic disturbance primarily results from reduced venous return, leading to a decline in cardiac output and/or systemic vascular resistance. The primary objective of this study was to estimate the efficacy and safety of norepinephrine and phenylephrine for the treatment of maternal post-spinal hypotension during cesarean section. The secondary objective was to compare the hemodynamics and neonatal APGAR scores between the two vasopressors. Methodology This prospec

Explainable tabular deep learning models for antenatal cesarean delivery prediction in multiparous women.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Globalincreases in cesarean section (C-section) rates, often exceeding medical necessity, highlight the need for accurate antenatal prediction to support evidence-based birth planning. Reliable prediction of delivery mode is essential for reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity, improving clinical decision-making, and optimizing resource allocation. This study analyzes a publicly available dataset of 460 multiparous women, including 18 obstetric and antenatal variables, published by Yimer and Mekonnen. METHODS: Deep learning architectures were systematically evaluated f

Severe pulmonary and cerebral fat embolism with sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest after cesarean section: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is commonly associated with orthopedic trauma, but the diagnosis is challenging with an uncommon nontraumatic cause. It is difficult to discriminate from thrombo-embolism in post-partum women with a hypercoagulable condition. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old woman experienced cardiac and respiratory arrest 34 h after cesarean section. She showed limb convulsions with teeth gritted. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and adrenaline were administered, followed by endotracheal intubation with balloon-assisted ventilation. Her autonomic heart rate recovered after

Mode of Delivery and Neonatal Characteristics as Risk Factors for Childhood Asthma in Qatar: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: Asthma rates are rising globally, posing a significant public health challenge. In Qatar, childhood asthma affects 34.6% of children, making it a common chronic condition. The global scope of existing literature on the association between childhood asthma and perinatal and neonatal risk factors may not fully account for Qatar's distinctive socio-cultural, genetic, and healthcare aspects. Therefore, this research aims to emphasize the importance of considering regional variations in health outcomes. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between childhood asthma development and

Cesarean Section Rates and Mobile Health's Role in Equitable Access to Prenatal Care.

Cesarean section (CS) rates have risen globally, and while an often lifesaving and necessary intervention, CS deliveries increase future maternal/neonatal risks and are costly to both patients and healthcare systems. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has set a national low-risk pregnancy CS (NTSV) target of 23.9% under the Healthy People 2030 initiative. This analysis compares NTSV rates of uninsured patients receiving prenatal care from a mobile clinic to the national target and also compares overall mobile health CS rates with national and state CS rates. Through reviewing 5 y

Preference and Actual Mode of Delivery, Complication and Outcome of Pregnancy among Women in a Tertiary Hospital of Bangladesh.

Pregnancy and childbirth involve multiple decisions and uncertainties. A woman's preferred mode of delivery may not always match the actual mode she experiences. This difference can have important implications for the occurrence of complications and the eventual outcomes for both mother and baby. This study aimed to identify women's preferred and actual modes of delivery, examine the relationship between antenatal or obstetric complications and delivery mode and find out the maternal and neonatal outcomes among women. The cross-sectional descriptive type of observational study was carried out

Evaluating maternal mortality, risk factors, and emergency c-section timing in polytrauma pregnant patients.

BACKGROUND: Trauma is a leading non-obstetric cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, yet standardized guidelines for the management of pregnant polytrauma patients remain limited. Physiologic changes of pregnancy may alter trauma response and complication risk, but data guiding risk stratification and time-sensitive interventions are sparse. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate maternal mortality and complications among pregnant polytrauma patients, with particular focus on maternal age, early blood transfusion, and timing of emergency cesarean section. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyze

Stem Cell-Based Delivery of Immunomodulators for Overcoming Glioblastoma Immune Evasion.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumour in adults, characterised by rapid progression, extensive heterogeneity, and poor outcomes despite surgery, radiotherapy, and temozolomide (TMZ). A subpopulation of glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) with self-renewal and multi-lineage differentiation capabilities drives tumour initiation, progression, recurrence, and therapeutic resistance. GSCs evade conventional treatments via enhanced DNA repair, multidrug efflux, activation of survival pathways, epigenetic reprogramming, and entry into quiescent states. Moreover, these cells utilis

Examining Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Low-Risk Cesarean Section Deliveries in the Colorado Healthy Start Study.

BACKGROUND: Cesarean sections (CS) create unnecessary health risks for mothers and newborns in low-risk contexts. In the United States, low-risk CS prevalence is higher among people of color, though this may vary across regions. We investigated low-risk CS prevalence by race and ethnicity in a Colorado pregnancy cohort comprising primarily Hispanic and non-Hispanic White mother-offspring pairs. METHODS: Pregnant women in Denver, Colorado were enrolled (2009-2014, n = 1,410). 904 mother-offspring pairs met the criteria for low-risk birth and were included in this analysis. Low-risk CS was base

Adjunctive Therapies in Periodontitis: Current Concepts and the Future.

Periodontitis is a chronic, host-mediated inflammatory disease in which microbial dysbiosis and dysregulated immune responses drive the destruction of tooth-supporting tissues. Although conventional therapy remains centered on mechanical biofilm control, persistent inflammation and alveolar bone loss in susceptible individuals underscore the need for adjunctive strategies. Translating preclinical discoveries into predictable clinical outcomes, however, remains a major challenge in periodontal research. This narrative review integrates two interrelated themes, translational research methodology

Differential expression of vaginal microenvironment cytokines in relation to delivery modes and their impact on postpartum pelvic floor recovery.

Postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction (PPFD) is a common complication that substantially impairs women's quality of life, and its pathogenesis is closely associated with the physiological and pathological changes induced by different modes of delivery. As a key regulator of local immunity and tissue repair, the vaginal microenvironment undergoes marked alterations during and after childbirth, particularly in cytokine expression patterns. This review synthesizes current evidence on the differential expression of cytokines-including pro-inflammatory, tissue-repair, and anti-fibrotic mediators-acro
