Outcomes of Cesarean Myomectomies Performed at a Tertiary Care Hospital in North India: A Series of 10 Cases.

Background Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors in reproductive-aged women, and their prevalence in pregnancy is increasing. While cesarean myomectomy (CM) has traditionally been discouraged due to concerns about intraoperative hemorrhage and maternal morbidity, emerging evidence suggests it can be safely performed in selected cases. This retrospective case series evaluates the clinical outcomes of CM performed at a tertiary care center in North India over two years. Methods A total of 10 pregnant women who underwent CM were included in this study. Data were collected retrospectively from

Third trimester diagnosis of body stalk anomaly in a dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy.

This is a case report of a G1P0 woman in her early 30s with a dichorionic diamniotic twin gestation with limited prenatal care and a third trimester diagnosis of body stalk anomaly (BSA) in one of the twins. Initially diagnosed with an omphalocele, the patient established care in our centre at 31 weeks gestation, and numerous anomalies were noted on ultrasound. However, definitive characterisation was limited by the advanced gestational age and maternal body habitus. Fetal MRI clearly demonstrated anomalies consistent with BSA. A scheduled caesarean delivery was performed at 36 weeks in the se

Multidisciplinary Management of Pregnancy in Bladder Exstrophy: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Classic bladder exstrophy (CBE) is a rare congenital condition affecting multiple organs, primarily the urinary and musculoskeletal systems. Management involves multiple reconstructive surgical procedures and aims to maintain renal function, achieve urinary continence, and support normal reproductive health. Pregnancies in women with CBE can be complicated by recurrent urinary tract infections, pelvic prolapse, and a higher risk of preterm birth. CASE REPORT We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with a history of CBE, admitted at 32 weeks of pregnancy with fever and symptoms of

Immediate or early skin-to-skin contact for mothers and their healthy newborn infants.

RATIONALE: Research supports the beneficial effects of immediate maternal-infant skin-to-skin contact (SSC) after all modes of birth on breastfeeding/lactation and neonatal physiology, but little is known about how it might influence maternal physiology, including postpartum blood loss and placental separation time. Despite the findings from the 2016 Cochrane review of skin-to-skin contact, and although the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) recommend immediate, continuous, uninterrupted SSC after birth, newborn infants are still separated from thei

Successful internal fixation of a pelvic ring fracture during pregnancy: a multidisciplinary case report.

BACKGROUND: Severe pelvic trauma during pregnancy is rare and requires concurrent maternal and fetal management. Multidisciplinary coordination is essential, yet reports of definitive pelvic fixation with the fetus in utero are exceptionally uncommon. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-week pregnant woman with no prior medical history sustained severe injuries (Injury Severity Score: 16) in a high-energy collision. Diagnostic imaging revealed a comminuted, displaced right hip fracture, sacral avulsion fractures, right-sided sacroiliac joint diastasis, and a large pre-sacral pelvic hematoma. Abdominal ult

The Optimal Method for Labor Induction in Macrosomic Fetuses: Mechanical or Medical?

BACKGROUND: Fetal macrosomia is a risk factor for operative vaginal delivery (VD), shoulder dystocia, obstructed labor, and cesarean section (CS). Induction of labor (IOL) may decrease these risks but also leads to longer labor, increasing the risk of CS. No data exist regarding the optimal method of IOL in macrosomic fetuses, and most studies are limited to the efficacy of medical induction. OBJECTIVES: To compare medical and mechanical IOL in macrocosmic fetuses. METHODS: This retrospective case-control study included pregnant women who underwent IOL and delivered macrosomic neonates at a

Fetoscopic two-layer closure for open neural tube defects: prospective study of obstetric, surgical and perinatal outcomes in the first 50 cases.

OBJECTIVE: Fetoscopic repair for open neural tube defects (ONTDs) has gained acceptance among leading groups, although it remains controversial owing to the lack of a standardized neurosurgical technique. In 2018, our group described a new fetoscopic two-layer procedure with an exteriorized uterus for ONTD reconstruction. This study aimed to report obstetric, surgical and perinatal outcomes for the first 50 cases since the implementation of this technique and to provide comparative data with open fetal surgery studies. METHODS: This was a single-center, observational, prospective study conduc

Cesarean Delivery in Fetal Triploidy: Clinical Considerations and Case Study Insights.

BACKGROUND Fetal triploidy is a rare, lethal disorder characterized by an extra set of haploid chromosomes resulting in 69 chromosomes (69, XXX; 69, XXY; or 69, XYY). Fetal anomalies and occasionally maternal complications such as hypertension result in a high fetal loss rate during gestation. It is estimated to be present in 1: 250 000 pregnancies at 20 weeks, and very few survive to term. Diagnosis is suspected by antepartum ultrasound and confirmed by invasive testing of fetal cells by karyotype. Management includes pregnancy termination or pregnancy continuation based on the patient's choi

Retention of an Intrauterine Pregnancy After the Removal of a Heterotopic Cervical Twin Pregnancy.

Cervical pregnancy is an uncommon form of ectopic pregnancy, and when combined with a coexisting intrauterine gestation, it represents a particularly rare and challenging clinical scenario. We report the case of a 46-year-old woman with a history of multiple IVF attempts who conceived after the transfer of two blastocysts. At eight weeks, ultrasound revealed a heterotopic triplet pregnancy: a monochorionic twin cervical ectopic pregnancy alongside a singleton intrauterine gestation. Cardiac activity was present in all fetuses. After counseling, selective evacuation of the cervical pregnancy wa

A case of Acardiac Acephalus fetus in spontaneous triplet pregnancy, managed conservatively: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous triplet pregnancies are rare, with the incidence being 1 in 7000. Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence or acardiac twinning is a rare complication of monochorionic pregnancies. In this disorder there is an acardiac twin who lacks well defined heart, is nonviable, and there is a normal (pump) twin which feeds the acardiac twin through placental anastomoses. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old Asian female belonging to lower middle class, second gravida para one live one delivered by lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) was booked at 24-25 weeks with triplet pr

Successful delivery in pregnancy complicated by multiple Takayasu arteritis: a case report and clinical experience.

BACKGROUND: Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a rare immune system disorder that predominantly affects young women, potentially involving large arteries throughout the body and leading to organ dysfunction. For TA patients, pregnancy eligibility and optimal timing require comprehensive assessment of disease severity. Management during pregnancy extends beyond timely pharmacologic control to necessitate immediate multidisciplinary response capabilities for unpredictable complications. We describe the successful delivery in a pregnant patient with active TA. The uniqueness of this case lies in the pres
