Intrinsic retinoic acid synthesis is required for oligodendrocyte progenitor expansion during CNS remyelination.

Myelin regeneration (remyelination) in the CNS depends on the recruitment, proliferation and differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) at demyelinated lesions. However, despite the presence of OPCs, very few oligodendrocytes and myelin are regenerated in chronic multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions for reasons that remain poorly understood. Here, using a spontaneous remyelination model in mice, we found that retinaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (Raldh2), a rate-limiting enzyme for retinoic acid (RA) synthesis, is upregulated in OPCs and in a subpopulation of microglia/macrophages during re

Pregnancy and birth outcomes in women with multiple sclerosis: Comparison of the RESPONSE study to the general French population.

BACKGROUND: Retrospective studies did not show strong evidence of higher risk of adverse neonatal or pregnancy outcomes in women with multiple sclerosis (MS) compared to general population, but there are contradictory data on prematurity, cesarean section, and small birthweight for gestational age (SGA). METHODS: We compared pregnancy and birth outcomes in MS women included in RESPONSE, a French prospective cohort, with a recent survey (Enquête Nationale Périnatale (ENP)) describing leading indicators in perinatal epidemiology in France. RESULTS: On 7 April 2023, 476 pregnancies (461 MS wome

Pregnancy and Infant Outcomes in Women with Multiple Sclerosis Exposed to Glatiramer Acetate Therapy: An Extended 4-Year Safety Update.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: While glatiramer acetate (GA) is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, long-term data, particularly for the 40 mg/mL dose, are limited. Previous research found GA exposure rates and pregnancy outcomes comparable to the general population. This study evaluates pregnancy, fetal, and infant outcomes following maternal exposure to GA 20 and 40 mg/mL to provide a cumulative four-year update. METHODS: Post-marketing pregnancy data reported between April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2023 were searched in Teva's Global Safety database and supplemented with 1

Association of cesarean section delivery with childhood behavior: a systematic review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This review will evaluate the association between cesarean section delivery and child behavior problems. INTRODUCTION: Cesarean section (C-section) deliveries account for over 30% of deliveries in Canada and 21% of all births globally. Mode of delivery via C-section has been associated with altered maternal mental health in the postpartum period, and postpartum depression is linked to an increased risk of internalizing and externalizing behaviors in children. Given the high rates of C-section deliveries worldwide, it is important to determine how mode of delivery impacts child beha

Maternal and neonatal outcomes according to the timing of diagnosis of hyperglycaemia in pregnancy: a nationwide cross-sectional study of 695,912 deliveries in France in 2018.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: We aimed to assess maternal-fetal outcomes according to various subtypes of hyperglycaemia in pregnancy. METHODS: We used data from the French National Health Data System (Système National des Données de Santé), which links individual data from the hospital discharge database and the French National Health Insurance information system. We included all deliveries after 22 gestational weeks (GW) in women without pre-existing diabetes recorded in 2018. Women with hyperglycaemia were classified as having overt diabetes in pregnancy or gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), then cat

The degree of risk factor and accumulation effect for large niche in individuals after cesarean section.

BACKGROUND: The risk factors associated with niche on the cesarean scar have been reported, however, the degree of these factors associated with large niche and the accumulation effects of these risk factors on the development of large niche are unclear. METHODS: Large niche was evaluated by transvaginal sonography during mid-follicular phase. Logistic regression model was used to assess 32 risk factors by univariate analysis. Then, a scoring model based on the screened risk factors was generated. The performance of this model was evaluated by area under curve (AUC). Finally, the scoring mode

Common mental disorders and perinatal outcomes in Victoria, Australia: A population-based retrospective cohort study.

PURPOSE: Common mental disorders (non-psychotic mental health conditions which impact on day-to-day functioning) are increasingly common in childbearing women and may impact significantly on both maternal and neonatal outcomes. Our study examines the associations between common mental disorders and perinatal outcomes. METHODS: We used routinely collected perinatal data (2009-2016) for this population-based retrospective cohort study (n = 597,522 singleton births). We undertook multiple logistic regression adjusting for key maternal medical conditions and sociodemographic factors to determine

Discovering Social Determinant of Health Risk Factors for Perinatal Morbidity Through Real World Data.

Gestational diabetes and preterm birth are perinatal morbidities that significantly impact women and infants' health. While clinical factors like cesarean delivery, multiple gestation, preeclampsia, and hypertensive disorder are associated with these conditions, it is increasingly recognized that social determinants of health play a crucial role. This study aims to measure the associations between the social vulnerability index (SVI) and these perinatal morbidities using multivariate logistic regression models. The results indicate that factors across all four themes in SVI are significantly a

The influence of prenatal dexamethasone administration before scheduled full-term cesarean delivery on short-term adverse neonatal outcomes: a retrospective single-center cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: There has been a gradual increase in the prevalence of cesarean section deliveries and more healthcare professionals are considering the prophylactic use of corticosteroids before planned full-term cesarean sections. However, the association between dexamethasone administration before full-term cesarean delivery and short-term adverse neonatal outcomes is unclear. This study analyzed the disparities in short-term adverse neonatal effects in neonates born via full-term elective cesarean delivery with or without antenatal dexamethasone treatment. STUDY DESIGN: This single-center retr

Postoperative Coagulation State Predicts Deep Vein Thrombosis After Cesarean Section in Elderly Pregnant Women.

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to evaluate the risk factors for the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) within one month after delivery in pregnant women of advanced maternal age undergoing cesarean section and explore the predictive value of fasting coagulation indicators in relation to the development of DVT. METHODS: A total of 176 eligible postpartum women were included in this study. Sixty-seven cases developed DVT within one month after delivery (DVT group), while 109 cases did not experience DVT (NDVT group). Within 24 hours after cesarean section, fasting coagulation indicators are meas

RETRACTED: Risk factors related to surgical wound infection after caesarean section: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the common postoperative complications after caesarean section for pregnant women. Previous studies have investigated the risk factors for SSI in pregnant women undergoing caesarean delivery. Whereas big differences in research results exist, and the correlation coefficients of different research results are quite different. A meta-analysis was conducted to examine the risk factors related to SSI in pregnant women undergoing caesarean delivery. We searched English databases to collect case-control studies or cohort studies published between 1 January 201

Early life exposure of infants to benzylpenicillin and gentamicin is associated with a persistent amplification of the gut resistome.

BACKGROUND: Infant gut microbiota is highly malleable, but the long-term longitudinal impact of antibiotic exposure in early life, together with the mode of delivery on infant gut microbiota and resistome, is not extensively studied. METHODS: Two hundred and eight samples from 45 infants collected from birth until 2 years of age over five time points (week 1, 4, 8, 24, year 2) were analysed. Based on shotgun metagenomics, the gut microbial composition and resistome profile were compared in the early life of infants divided into three groups: vaginal delivery/no-antibiotic in the first 4 days

Changes in DNA methylation associated with a specific mode of delivery: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The mode of delivery represents an epigenetic factor with potential to affect further development of the individual by multiple mechanisms. DNA methylation may be one of them, representing a major epigenetic mechanism involving direct chemical modification of the individual's DNA. This pilot study aims to examine whether a specific mode of delivery induces changes of DNA methylation by comparing the umbilical cord blood and peripheral blood of the newborns. METHODS: Blood samples from infants born by vaginal delivery and caesarean section were analysed to prepare the Methylseq lib

Ethical challenges in the treatment of psychotic pregnancy denial.

BACKGROUND: There is a paucity of literature regarding ethical strategies for treating pregnant people with psychosis. While not uncommon, psychotic pregnancy denial is a psychotic illness in which patients have the delusion that they are not pregnant. The authors provide a literature review regarding psychotic pregnancy denial, present an unpublished case and its questions and dilemmas, and offer recommendations for resolving the ethical challenges these cases raise. CASE: A 26-year-old, single, unemployed woman of no fixed residence was admitted for suicidal ideation. She had a history of p
