Prevalence and associated factors of caesarean section among mothers who gave birth across Eastern Africa countries: Systematic review and meta-analysis study.

BACKGROUND: Caesarean section (CS) rate increased dramatically worldwide, exceeding the World Health Organization's benchmark (10-15 %) in many countries. This rate varies in different regions of the continent. Using various study designs, researchers from across East African countries investigated the prevalence of caesarean section and the factor associated with it but no study shows a pooled prevalence of caesarean section in the Eastern African region. Therefore, this review aimed to systematically summarize and estimate the pooled prevalence of caesarean section and its associated factors

Maternal excessive weight gain as a potential risk factor for prolonged labor in Japanese pregnant women: The Japan Environment and Children's Study.

AIM: This study aimed to determine whether excessive maternal weight gain during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of prolonged labor. METHODS: We analyzed the data regarding maternal weight gain during pregnancy for the participants of Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS), which is an ongoing nationwide prospective birth cohort study in Japan. After excluding participants with multiple pregnancies, with deliveries before 37 or beyond 42 weeks of gestation, or who had undergone cesarean section, 71,154 (nulliparous, n = 28,442) Japanese women were included. Prolonged labor

Perioperative Management of an Obstetric Patient with Eisenmenger Syndrome and Pre-Eclampsia Using Milrinone.

Pregnancy in a patient with pulmonary hypertension carries a high risk of mortality. It poses multiple problems in the management of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, thereby emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary team for a successful outcome. We describe the successful management of a case of Eisenmenger syndrome who developed pre-eclampsia during her 28 weeks of pregnancy. As far as our knowledge, this is the first case report that describes the use of milrinone in a parturient for a successful outcome.

Pregnancy outcomes of foetal reduction from twin to singleton gestation compared to ongoing twin gestations: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Foetal reduction, which involves selectively terminating one or more foetuses in a multiple gestation pregnancy, has become more common. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess and compare pregnancy outcomes of foetal reduction from twin to singleton gestation to ongoing twin gestations. METHODS: A comprehensive search of electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMbase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL and PsycINFO) was done for studies published until 15 April 2023. The outcomes analysed included gestational diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, caesarean delivery, foetal loss, per

Efficacy and Safety of Intrathecal Morphine for Cesarean Delivery: A Narrative Review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Pain management is a critical aspect of care during and following a cesarean delivery. Without proper control of pain, individuals can experience poor mobility, increased thromboembolic events, and difficulty caring for the neonate in the postpartum period. There have been multiple methods for pain management for cesarean delivery and intrathecal morphine (ITM) has emerged as a prominent option for post-operative analgesia due to its efficacy, safety, and potential benefits over other treatments. This review analyzes data on efficacy, side effects, and safety of ITM and the

BACKGROUND: Caesarean section is a life-saving procedure which is associated with high rates of maternal and neonatal complications. It has been estimated that globally, 29.7 million births occur by caesarean section annually. The risk of postpartum infection is estimated to be five to ten times higher compared to normal vaginal delivery. Pregnancy-related sepsis was listed as a top six cause of maternal mortality in the South African Saving Mothers report between 2017 and 2019. Multiple trials have been conducted in an attempt to optimise administration of prophylactic antibiotics in an effor

Rural-urban disparities and socioeconomic determinants of caesarean delivery rates in Zimbabwe: Evidence from the 2019 National Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey.

Caesarean sections (CSs) have increased globally, with concerns being raised involving overutilisation and inequalities in access. In Zimbabwe, where healthcare access varies greatly, we aimed to analyse factors associated with ever having a CS using the 2019 National Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey. The weighted national CS rate was 10.3%, and CS happened more commonly among women in urban than rural areas (15.7% v. 7.4%; odds ratio (OR) 2.34; (95% confidence interval (CI)) 1.71 - 3.20; p=0.001). Percentages of those having a CS significantly increased with education: overall χ2 for a trend

Effects of multistrain Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus probiotics on HMO compositions after supplementation to pregnant women at threatening preterm delivery: design of the randomized clinical PROMO trial.

BACKGROUND: As an indigestible component of human breast milk, Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) play an important role as a substrate for the establishing microbiome of the newborn. They have further been shown to have beneficial effects on the immune system, lung and brain development. For preterm infants HMO composition of human breast milk may be of particular relevance since the establishment of a healthy microbiome is challenged by multiple disruptive factors associated with preterm birth, such as cesarean section, hospital environment and perinatal antibiotic exposure. Association between endometriosis and perinatal complications: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Recently, a history of endometriosis has been reported to be associated with several perinatal complications. However, it is unknown whether pre-pregnancy treatment for endometriosis reduces perinatal complications. In this study, we aimed to clarify the association between endometriosis and perinatal complications and investigate whether there is a significant difference in the incidence of placenta previa depending on the degree of surgical completion of endometriosis before pregnancy. METHODS: This case-control study included 2781 deliveries at the Hirosaki University Hospital

Geospatial patterns, and individual and community levels factors of cesarean section deliveries in Ethiopia: A spatial and multilevel analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cesarean Section (CS) is the most popular surgery worldwide in obstetric care to save a mother's or the fetus's life. The prevalence of CS delivery in Ethiopia was 0.7% and 1.9% in 2000 and 2016 respectively and its spatial distribution and variation in Ethiopia are limited. This study provides evidence for healthcare providers and pregnant women on the national CS geospatial distribution and variation to promote evidence-based decision-making and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to determine geospatial patterns and individual and community-level
