In the present work, we have studied the effects of systemic morphine on the electrophysiological properties of ventromedial medulla (VMM) neurons in the awake, freely moving rat. By means of a chronically implanted single-unit recording device, a drug delivery catheter, and the use of controlled innocuous and noxious cutaneous stimuli, we were able to study precisely the spontaneous and evoked VMM neuronal activities. A patient was admitted to our hospital, in the 34th week of her pregnancy, who presented a non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The delivery was induced in the 38th week and the newborn baby had no other anomalies than a single umbilical artery and a slight dilation of the cerebral ventricles which receded spontaneously. Peculiar characteristics, not previously described, were a peripheral T cell lymphoma with relapse after 5 years since its remission with chemotherapy.

This report presents results of a retrospective study of infants delivered by the breech, which were according the attitude of this hospital mainly delivered vaginally. This mode of delivery was chosen for primiparae as well as for multiparae and independent of the fetal size measured by ultrasound. Indication for primary caesarean section was seen in only 45 cases out of 568 infants in breech situation. The anterior fontanelle (AF) size of 100 male and 100 female normal neonates, born by spontaneous vertex delivery following a normal pregnancy, was determined on the 3rd day of life, using standard methods. The mean AF size for boys was 2.92 (0.51) (range 1.04-4.4) cm and for girls 2.51 (0.74) (range 1.0-4.1) cm. The difference between the sexes is significant (P less than 0.001). There was no significant difference in the head circumference between the sexes. The study establishes normal values for anterior fontanelle size for appropriately grown, full term Arab male and female infants.

Within systematic fetal supervision by CTG of the risk pregnancies sometimes single decelerations of variable type are observed. Most they didn't repeat. In the majority of the cases in follow up pregnancy the child will be born spontaneously without complications. In a lot of other cases, however, there appears fetal distress. For prognostic statistical evaluation of antenatal decelerations we watched prospectively the following groups: 1.43 cases with severe antenatal variable decelerations, 2.39 cases with mild antenatal variable decelerations, 3.88 cases without antenatal decelerations. -

The distribution of gas values of umbilical cord blood was studied in an university clinic population during a period of 3 yr. We reviewed 5,003 records of consecutive deliveries in 1975 and 1976 at Boston Hospital for Women, abstracted demographic and obstetric data, and analyzed singleton deliveries at 27 weeks' gestation or greater. We compared women with exactly one prior proximate induced or spontaneous abortion with women of similar gravidity or parity with no prior pregnancy losses.
