Atypical Presentation of Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome (CAPS) Following Cesarean Delivery in a Patient With Persistent Multiorgan Dysfunction: A Case Report.

Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is a rare, life-threatening condition with 30% mortality that poses diagnostic challenges during pregnancy due to overlap with preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. We report a woman in her 30s who developed probable CAPS following emergency cesarean delivery at 22 weeks for severe preeclampsia. Unlike typical CAPS presentations, our patient lacked characteristic cutaneous manifestations, instead presenting with progressive cardiac, pulmonary, and renal dysfunction persisting despite delivery. Serial chest radiographs showed significant pulmonary edema

Infection after cesarean delivery: diagnosis, pathophysiology, management, and prevention.

Infection is one of the 2 most common complications associated with cesarean delivery. The principal infections, in descending order of frequency, are endometritis (organ space infection), wound infection (surgical site infection and incisional infection), and urinary tract infection. The major microorganisms that cause endometritis are anaerobic Gram-negative bacilli, anaerobic Gram-positive cocci, aerobic Gram-negative bacilli, aerobic Gram-positive cocci, and Ureaplasma urealyticum. The principal pathogens that cause wound infections are the organisms listed above plus the staphylococcal an

Live Sextuplet Birth After Ovulation Induction in a Patient With Secondary Infertility: A Case Report.

High-order multiple pregnancy is an unusual but serious complication of ovulation induction and is associated with significant maternal, fetal, and neonatal risks. While ovulation induction has been commonly used in the management of unexplained infertility, multifetal gestation remains an important iatrogenic outcome despite careful monitoring. In this article, we report a rare case of high-order multiple pregnancy following the induction of clomiphene citrate in a woman with unexplained secondary infertility. A 30-year-old para 1 female patient (eight years long) presented to Tadawi Medical

Sagittal sinus thrombosis in pregnancy: A case report.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare but serious cause of maternal morbidity. It most frequently occurs during late pregnancy and puerperium, and occurs due to pregnancy-induced hypercoagulability. The present report documents a 37-year-old multiparous woman diagnosed with acute superior sagittal sinus thrombosis involving multiple dural sinuses at 6 weeks gestation. The patient was managed with therapeutic low-molecular-weight heparin (enoxaparin 100 mg twice daily) under multidisciplinary supervision throughout pregnancy; at 33 weeks, recurrent headaches and vomiting occurred, b

Advanced tubal pregnancy with a live birth at 42 + 0 weeks gestation in Tanzania: A case report.

This report describes a rare case of a woman whose tubal pregnancy was unexpectedly identified during a caesarean section, resulting in the delivery of a live infant at a gestational age of 42 + 0 weeks. Despite multiple antenatal visits, three ultrasound examinations, and the presence of clinical signs, the tubal pregnancy was not recognized preoperatively. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of advanced tubal pregnancy, the clinical overlap with abdominal pregnancies, and the importance of careful abdominal examination and improved ultrasonographic awareness, particularly in low-r

Pathological semen parameters according to WHO and Austrian IVF funds criteria and their association with pregnancy outcomes in assisted reproduction.

BACKGROUND: Male factors account for around half of all cases of infertility. The prognostic relevance of abnormal semen parameters for obstetric outcomes following assisted reproductive technology (ART) is unclear. METHODS: This retrospective analysis included 428 participants enrolled in the prospective Austrian registry (AROS) between January 2022 and August 2025. Male-factor infertility was defined according to the reference values of the World Health Organization (WHO) 6th edition and the criteria of the Austrian in vitro fertilization (IVF) funds. Health outcomes following caesarean birth- An observational study of twins discordant for mode of delivery.

INTRODUCTION: Observational studies indicate that children born by caesarean section (CS), have an increased risk of long-term adverse health outcomes such as allergy, obesity and autoimmune disorders. A small proportion of twin pregnancies have discordant mode of delivery, where the first twin is delivered vaginally and the second twin by CS. This provides a unique opportunity to study long-term health outcomes according to mode of birth. The aim of this study was to investigate if birth by CS is associated with cardiovascular-, metabolic-, autoimmune- or allergic disorders, by using a natura

Clinical Drivers of Cesarean Sections During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Robson Classification-Based Multivariable Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted global maternity care, prompting concerns that logistical pressures and infection risks lowered the clinical threshold for performing cesarean sections (LSCS). This study aimed to determine whether delivering during the pandemic epoch independently increased a patient's odds of undergoing a surgical delivery, adjusting for pandemic-induced demographic shifts using the WHO Robson Ten Group Classification System. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of 3,656 deliveries was conducted at a tertiary care center, comparing pre-pand

Timing and Causes of Systemic Readmissions After Hip Fracture Surgery: An 8-Year Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Systemic readmissions after hip fracture surgery impose a substantial clinical and economic burden. Hip fracture represents a sentinel orthopedic injury with prolonged postoperative vulnerability extending beyond the index admission. Evidence from the Middle East remains scarce, particularly regarding the incidence, causes, and timing of systemic readmissions in multiethnic populations. This study aimed to determine the one-year incidence, etiologies, and temporal distribution of systemic readmissions following proximal hip fracture surgery, and to explore whether commonly document

Simulation training in cesarean delivery.

Surgical training has always been an essential element of obstetrics. Skills acquisition for cesarean delivery relies heavily on apprenticeship-style training, with a notable paucity of formal simulation training before taking an active role in surgery. Patient safety is compromised when surgeons possess poor surgical skills and inadequate knowledge to handle acute emergencies. Experience comes with "real-world" exposure or can be obtained in a simulated setting, where scenarios can be practiced without the risk of patient harm. As part of a larger Intensive Course in Obstetric Emergencies, a
