The objective of this study was to determine the clincotherapeutic effect of whole bee venom in hypogalactic sows postpartum. Sows after parturition were assigned to treated and nontreated control groups. In the treated group, 22 sows were bee acupunctured once a day for 3 consecutive days. Those people living in industrial regions have increased incidence of chronic disorders of the hepatobiliary system. In postpartum female patients presenting with the above extragenital pathology, there occur with a greater than usual frequency such abnormalities as uterus hypotony, its subinvolution, hypogalactia, with the postpartum septic complications running a graver course. Immune inadequacies and microcirculatory disorders detected in women presenting with chronic disorders of the hepatobiliary system result in the pathological course of the postpartum period.

Throughout the ages, breast-feeding as a biological need has been the most used method on infant feeding during the first year of life. Because of its nutritional and protective characteristics, it is still the best system of feeding in spite of the present advances in the composition of formulated milks. A series of experiments was conducted to define the role of cortisol in the hypogalactia during endotoxin-induced mastitis. In the first experiment, three of six nonmastitic cows were given a continuous infusion of trilostane, a 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase inhibitor that blocks enhanced cortisol synthesis. Porcine relaxin (pRXN) titers were measured in 109 plasma samples drawn between 24 and 120 h post-partum from good (n = 34), and poor (n = 25) milking sows and from sows (n = 12) exhibiting overt signs of hypogalactia located on six swine farms in Ontario. A study was made of the state of the hypophyseogonadal, hypophyseoadrenocortical, hypophyseothyroid systems and the level of regulatory neuromediators in puerperae with a different intensity of lactation. Leukocytic myeloperoxidase and alkaline phosphatase activities were measured in the colostrum of puerperants. The findings evidence that disordered secretion of the mammary glands is regularly associated with changes in the activities of these enzymes. During a 7-year period, failure of omasal transport attributable to a perireticular abscess was diagnosed in 29 cows.
