Use and health effects of herbal medicine Ocotea guianensis during pregnancy in French Guiana.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Ocotea guianensis Aubl. leaves, in Creole fey darjan ("silver leaves") are frequently cited by women in French Guiana for childbirth related practices. Although this use has been described in several ethnographic studies, the frequency of use of this plant has not been quantified yet. Moreover, beyond alarming anecdotes, the profile of users, the ways in which leaves are used during pregnancy, and its influence on childbirth and the immediate postpartum period remained to be determined. Our main objective was thus to estimate the frequency of O. guianensis use a

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Satralizumab in a Pregnant NMOSD Patient With AQP4/MOG-IgG Dual Seropositive: A Case Report.

Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) is a chronic autoimmune neuroinflammatory disease, typically characterized by antibodies against aquaporin 4 (AQP4-IgG) or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG-IgG). Simultaneous seropositivity for both antibodies in a single patient is exceedingly rare. We present a dual AQP4-IgG/MOG-IgG seropositivity case who was treated with satralizumab throughout the whole preconception-to-postpartum course, to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of satralizumab, especially during the perinatal period. A 34 year-old female, initially presenting with de

Effectiveness of an online biopsychosocial cognitive-behavioural preventive intervention to improve wellbeing and mental health during pregnancy. Randomized controlled trial (BienGestar).

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a period of significant psychological, physiological, and social change, which can increase vulnerability to emotional distress. While many interventions focus on detecting and treating symptoms of anxiety and depression during pregnancy, fewer target the promotion of wellbeing. The BienGestar study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital, biopsychosocial, cognitive-behavioural intervention designed to promote mental health, wellbeing, and physical health during pregnancy and the postpartum period in a community-based sample of healthy pregnant women. METHODS:

Fear of child birth and its associated factors among pregnant women in Ethiopia: systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Fear of childbirth (FOCB) significantly contributes to labor abnormalities, needless caesarean sections, and postpartum psychotic illnesses that occur throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This directly or indirectly increases unfavorable maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, there was a paucity of data regarding the scope and contributing factors of birthing fear in Ethiopia. OBJECTIVE: To assess the pooled prevalence of fear of childbirth and its associated factors among pregnant women in Ethiopia. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis adhere

Global incidence and risk factors of pregnancy-related stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of over 270 million women.

OBJECTIVE: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with its prevalence increasing due to risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. Pregnancy-related stroke (PRS), a severe pregnancy complication, particularly during the postpartum period, has shown rising incidence rates, occurring at 30 per 100,000 pregnancies, three times higher than in the general young adult population. This study systematically reviews and analyzes global and regional data regarding the incidence and risk factors of PRS. METHODS: Comprehensive searches of PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus,

Effects of postpartum hormonal changes on the immune system and their role in recovery.

BACKGROUND: The postpartum period involves complex physiological changes, notably in hormone levels, that significantly influence immune system function. Hormonal regulation during pregnancy prevents maternal immune rejection of the fetus, but following childbirth, these hormone levels drop rapidly, leading to immune reconstitution. AIM: This review investigates the impact of hormonal changes on immune system dynamics during the postpartum period and highlights their implications for maternal recovery. METHODS: The study analyzed current literature, focusing on hormonal influences, particula

Maternal functioning status in the first year after childbirth and its predictors in Iranian mothers.

INTRODUCTION: Maternal functioning in the first year after childbirth is vital for both mother and infant health. During this period, mothers often face various physical, psychological, and social challenges that may affect their ability to function effectively. Given the limited research on the status of maternal functioning and its predictors, particularly using a comprehensive instrument and within a 12-month postpartum period in Iran, this study aimed to assess maternal functioning status in the first year after childbirth and its predictors in Iranian mothers. METHODS: This cross-section

Evaluating the impact of a longitudinal mentorship intervention on the documentation of maternal vital signs in Blantyre district, Malawi.

BACKGROUND: Staff shortages, insufficient training and support, and high patient caseloads limit maternal quality of care (QoC) and influence poor documentation of vital signs and labor progress in Malawi. Aware that this limits providers’ ability to anticipate or manage complications, we explored the impact of a longitudinal multipronged intervention on the documentation of maternal vital signs at key clinical times during childbirth to identify targeted opportunities for improvement. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective quantitative analysis of maternal charts from two primary health centre

Maternal near miss incidence ratio, its causes and risk factors in East Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Maternal Near-Miss (MNM) is a woman who nearly dies but survives complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or 42 days following termination of pregnancy. MNM has emerged as a proxy indicator for the quality of maternal health services. For every maternal death, there are 20-30 MNM cases. However, there is a dearth of comprehensive evidence on MNM according to the WHO's MNM approach, as well as inconsistencies in risk factors from primary studies. Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the maternal near-miss incidence ratio, causes, and risk factors in East A
