An analysis of 51 attempts at version was made of which 27 were successful (53%). In 3 cases an emergency cesarean section had to be performed following the attempt at version. The quantity and distribution of glycogen has been studied in 86 placentae from the last trimester of pregnancy and 8 of 8 to 16 weeks gestational age. An infant with multiple congenital anomalies was found to have a duplication-deficiency disorder involving chromosome No. 8. The abnormality was identified as an unbalanced recombinant inherited from the mother who was a carrier of a pericentric inversion of chromosome No. 8. The inversion was observed in several members of this family, including a fetus who was diagnosed by an amniocentesis. The inverted chromosome was demonstrated only with the use of a differential staining technique, in this case, by trypsin-Giemsa banding.

In 50 cases of Caesarean section for various indication, methoxyflurane was administered to two groups of patients in two different dosages by a Pentec-vaporizer. Blood was sampled simultaneously in the radial artery of the mother and in the umbilical vein. The methoxyflurane concentrations of both samples of blood were measured by gas chromatography. Using plasma ferritin derminations, iron stores have been evaluated at the end of pregnancy in 26 women and followed sequentially in their healthy, full-term infants. Results of 261 paracervical blocks done with a dose of 12 ml of 1% chloroprocaine hydrochloride solution containing 1:200,000 epinephrine were recorded. The blocks were followed by abnormal heart rate patterns for 3 to 15 minutes in six of 104 (5.8%) of the fetuses. Excellent pain relief was obtained with 142 of 172 blocks or 83%.
