Recurrent GTD and GTD coexisting with normal twin pregnancy.

Hydatidiform mole (HM) affects around 1/1000 pregnancies, and in such cases the recurrence risk is around 1%, being greater for those with complete HM (CHM). Whilst most cases appear sporadic with unknown mechanisms, there is a distinct subgroup of patients who suffer recurrent pregnancy loss, including multiple recurrent CHM (familial recurrent biparental HM syndrome). The majority of these cases are related to maternal genetic mutations in genes related to the control of imprinting, specifically NALP7 and KHDC3L. Oocyte donation is an effective treatment allowing these patients to have succe

Limited Impact of Fetal Sex and Maternal Body Mass Index on Fetal and Maternal Insulin Resistance and Lipid Metabolism: Findings from the PEARs Study.

The intrauterine environment can have a significant impact on fetal and maternal well-being, both during pregnancy and in later life. We aimed to identify how fetal sex and maternal body mass index (BMI) influence insulin resistance and metabolic function during pregnancy with maternal BMI > 25 kg/m2. This secondary analysis assessed data from the PEARS-randomized controlled trial that recruited pregnant women with body mass indexes 25-39.9 kg/m2. Longitudinal measurements of maternal and fetal insulin resistance and metabolic function were recorded throughout pregnancy. Regression models test

Effects of dexamethasone on foetal Doppler flow velocimetry.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Corticosteroid administration before anticipated preterm birth is a well known antenatal therapy available to improve newborn outcomes. Doppler studies of maternal and foetal vessels provide a way to understand how corticosteroid affects and improves foetal respiratory outcome. This study was registered on 8th of October, 2017 by Menoufia Faculty of Medicine Board with registration number 222-2-10-2017. It included 80 pregnant women divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 40 participants. Group A: participants were between 28 weeks and 34 weeks of gestation and were at risk of preterm

The gonadal expression pattern of lipocalin‑2 and 24p3 receptor is modified in the gonads of the offspring of obese rats.

Obesity represents a global health and economic burden, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. This pathology is associated with a chronic low‑grade inflammatory state that is partially responsible for the development of other cardiometabolic complications. Clinical studies have reported an association between high circulating levels of lipocalin‑2 (Lcn2) and increased body weight. Additionally, there is scientific evidence demonstrating the impact of maternal obesity on fetal programming. The latter and the fact that the authors previously found that Lcn2 and its receptor (24p3R) are ex

Pregnant woman infected by Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and calcifications of the fetal bowel and gallbladder.

COVID-19 was declared to be a pandemic due to the rapid increase of cases around the world, including the number of pregnant women. Data about vertical transmission of COVID-19 are still limited and controversial: in most cases, although a positive mother, the virus could not be isolated in amniotic fluid, cord blood, breast milk or neonatal throat swab in these patients. No data have been published about possible intrauterine sonographic signs of infection. A pregnant woman was diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 at 35+5 weeks of gestation and managed conservatively at home. At transabdominal ultrasoun

Bioinformatics enrichment analysis of genes and pathways related to maternal type 1 diabetes associated with adverse fetal outcomes.

Maternal type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) may affect fetal development by altering the gene expression profile of the umbilical cord. The present study aimed to explore the T1DM-induced gene expression changes in the fetal umbilical cord. The raw gene expression profiles (ID: GSE51546) of umbilical cord tissue obtained from six normal mothers (non-diabetic) and six type 1 diabetic mothers were used to identify the differentially expressed genes. Genes that correspond to official gene symbols were selected for protein-protein interaction (PPI) and sub-network construction (combined score > 0.4).

Preterm parturition and pre-eclampsia: The confluence of two great gestational syndromes.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth (PTB) and pre-eclampsia independently, and frequently concurrently, adversely affect the pregnancy outcomes of millions of mothers and infants worldwide each year. OBJECTIVES: To fill the gap between PTB and pre-eclampsia, which continue to constitute the two most important current global challenges to maternal and perinatal health. METHODS: Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched from inception until December 2019 using the terms spontaneous PTB (SPTB), indicated preterm delivery (IPTD), early-onset pre-eclampsia, and pre-eclampsia. RESULTS: History o

Maternal Psychological Resilience During Pregnancy and Newborn Telomere Length: A Prospective Study.

OBJECTIVE: In the context of the importance of elucidating the determinants of the initial, newborn setting of telomere length (TL), it is increasingly evident that maternal stress and stress-related processes during pregnancy play a major role. Although psychological resilience may function as a buffer, research in this area has not yet examined its potential role vis-à-vis that of stress. The authors examined the relationship between maternal psychological resilience during pregnancy and newborn TL. METHODS: In a sample of 656 mother-child dyads from the Prediction and Prevention of Preecla

Fetal sex and risk of preeclampsia: Dose maternal race matter?

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether maternal race could affect the relationship between fetal sex and preeclampsia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was a cohort analysis using prospectively collected data from pregnant women who participated in the Vitamin Antenatal Asthma Reduction Trial (VDAART). Preeclampsia was the secondary outcome of VDAART. We examined the association of fetal sex with preeclampsia and its potential interaction with maternal race in 813 pregnant women (8% with preeclampsia) in logistic regression models with adjustment for preterm birth (<37 weeks of gestation), maternal ag

Association between gestational cannabis exposure and maternal, perinatal, placental, and childhood outcomes.

Globally, the availability and formulations for the administration of cannabis are changing with decriminalization or legalization of recreational use in some jurisdictions, and the prescription of cannabis also occurring. These changes are likely to affect the prevalence of use, including by women of childbearing age. The effects of in utero and infant alcohol and tobacco exposure are well-documented, but the outcomes of cannabis exposure are less certain. The content of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis has progressively increased over several decades

Title: Effect of multiple maternal red cell alloantibodies on the occurrence and severity of Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn.

INTRODUCTION: Antenatal antibody screening in India is focused on the detection of anti-D in RhD-negative mothers. HDFN outcome can also be affected by the presence of antibodies other than anti-D. We planned this study to find the impact of 'anti-D in combination with additional antibodies' on the development and severity of HDFN compared with 'anti-D alone'. METHODS: This is a retrospective study performed at a referral center in northern India from October 2015 to March 2018. Antibody screening was performed on women with complicated obstetric history. Women with anti-D antibody were inclu

Perinatal Antibiotic Exposure Affects the Transmission between Maternal and Neonatal Microbiota and Is Associated with Early-Onset Sepsis.

Intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis reduces the risk of infection to a mother and neonate, but antibiotic-mediated maternal and neonatal microbiota dysbiosis increases other health risks to newborn infants. We studied the impact of perinatal antibiotic prophylaxis on the microbiota in mothers and newborns with full-term or preterm delivery. Ninety-eight pregnant women and their neonates were divided into the following four groups: full term without antibiotic exposure (FT), full term with antibiotic exposure (FTA), preterm without antibiotic exposure (PT), and preterm with antibiotic exposure (

Management of fetal goiters: 6-year retrospective observational study in three prenatal diagnosis and treatment centers of the Pays De Loire Perinatal Network.

Introduction: The incidence of fetal goiters is reported to be around 1 per 40,000 births. The risk of complications is first of all obstetric, directly related to goiter size, but it may also affect longer term fetal and child development, depending on whether the goiter is due to hypo- or hyperthyroidism. Management is multidisciplinary, but not yet consensual and not always optimal by either endocrinologists or obstetricians. Objectives: The principal objective of this retrospective study was to analyze the data that enabled the physicians to assess whether the goiter was hypo- or hyperthyro

Possibility of early diagnosis in a fetus affected by Prader‑Willi syndrome with maternal hetero‑UPD15: A lesson to be learned.

Prader‑Willi syndrome (PWS), a complicated neurodevelopmental disorder arising from errors in genomic imprinting, is characterized by evident hypotonia along with feeding difficulties and the absence of crying in early infancy. Hyperphagia and obesity are not uncommon in patients with PWS, usually accompanied by intellectual disability, cognitive impairment, short stature, small hands and feet, as well as hypogonadism and typical facial features. Due to the severe complications associated with PWS, a thorough understanding of its features and an early diagnosis, preferably in the fetal period,

SSRIs and SNRIs (SRI) in Pregnancy: Effects on the Course of Pregnancy and the Offspring: How Far Are We from Having All the Answers?

Serotonin has important roles in the development of the brain and other organs. Manipulations of synaptic serotonin by drugs such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRI) or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) might alter their development and function. Of interest, most studies on the outcome of prenatal exposure to SRI in human have not found significant embryonic or fetal damage, except for a possible, slight increase in cardiac malformations. In up to a third of newborns exposed to SRI, exposure may induce transient neonatal behavioral changes (poor neonatal adaptation) and i

Non-compaction cardiomyopathy in pregnancy: a case report of spongy myocardium in both mother and foetus and systematic review of literature.

PURPOSE: Cardiovascular disease is the main nonobstetric cause of maternal death during pregnancy and is present in 0.5-4% of pregnancies in the western world. While hypertensive disorders remain the most frequent events, occurring in 6-8% of all pregnancies, cardiomyopathies are rare but encompass high complication rates. The aim of this systematic review is to report all data available up to date regarding pregnancies in patients with left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) cardiomyopathy. METHODS: PubMed, Medline, Cochrane, Scopus and Embase were searched, up to January 2019, using combinati

Interaction of maternal choline levels and prenatal Marijuana's effects on the offspring.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated whether higher maternal choline levels mitigate effects of marijuana on fetal brain development. Choline transported into the amniotic fluid from the mother activates α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on fetal cerebro-cortical inhibitory neurons, whose development is impeded by cannabis blockade of their cannabinoid-1(CB1) receptors. METHODS: Marijuana use was assessed during pregnancy from women who later brought their newborns for study. Mothers were informed about choline and other nutrients, but not specifically for marijuana use. Maternal serum chol
