Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in neonates (MIS-N) is a rare condition linked to perinatal exposure to SARS-CoV-2. We report a case of a term male neonate presenting at birth with severe respiratory failure and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn. Initial evaluations, including chest X-ray and ECG, were unremarkable, but echocardiography showed elevated pulmonary pressures without structural abnormalities. Over the next few days, the infant developed diffuse skin peeling, acute kidney injury and hypertension, creating a perplexing clinical picture. Only after retrospective mate

OBJECTIVES: Neonatal hypertension is uncommon but clinically significant due to its systemic complications. Data on the clinical course, etiologies, and outcomes of neonates receiving antihypertensive therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit are limited. This study aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, underlying etiologies, management strategies, and outcomes of neonates receiving antihypertensive therapy in a tertiary level 4 NICU.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of medical records of neonates admitted to the NICU between January 2024 and June 2025 who received ant

OBJECTIVE : To compare longitudinal blood pressure (BP) patterns in extremely preterm (EP) infants with and without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and examine associations with clinical characteristics. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analysed weekly non-invasive systolic, diastolic, and mean BP measurements from 28 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA) to term infants cared for at the Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Doha. BP trajectories were compared longitudinally, with additional analysis by BPD severity. RESULTS: Among 201 infants, 95 (47%) developed BPD. These infants were born

BACKGROUND: Approximately 5% of very premature infants delivered at less than 30 weeks' gestation have systemic hypertension. In adult human and animal models, intermittent hypoxemia events are associated with systemic hypertension. In neonates, intermittent hypoxemia events are associated with adverse outcomes, but it is unknown if they are a risk factor for hypertension. We hypothesize that early intermittent hypoxemia events in very preterm neonates are associated with systemic hypertension at 34-36 weeks' postmenstrual age.
METHODS: Secondary analysis of a single-center cohort study of 16

BACKGROUND: Renal artery thrombosis in newborns is a severe condition with high morbidity and mortality. Although neonates harbor intrinsic and external risk factors for thrombotic events of the renal vasculature, their occurrence is rare and requires swift diagnosis and treatment in a multidisciplinary setting.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 3-day old newborn, with a normal pregnancy and birth, who presented with gross hematuria, fever, and cardiac decompensation due to left renal artery thrombosis. In addition to moderate dehydration, we could not identify any clinical risk factor

BACKGROUND: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in neonates (MIS-N) is a rare condition thought to be associated with prenatal exposure to maternal severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. This immune-mediated hyperinflammation has been described in neonates with multiorgan dysfunction, including cardiopulmonary, encephalopathy, coagulopathy, and vascular complications. However, renovascular complications in MIS-N are rare. Here, we present a case with aortoiliac arterial thrombosis and renovascular stenosis in MIS-N.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal hypertension is common in preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Our study aimed to examine blood pressure variation in the first three months of life in preterm BPD patients.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, single-centre study at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the University of Szeged, Hungary. We collected blood pressure data from 26 preterm infants (born at < 30 weeks gestation) with moderate or severe BPD over three years (2019-2021). We calculated the BPD group's daily average blood pressure values and used previously defined normal blood

Background. Neonatal high blood pressure has been diagnosed more frequently in recent years, and its impact extends to adulthood. However, the knowledge gaps on associated factors, diagnosis, and treatment are challenging for medical personnel. The incidence of this condition varies depending on neonatal conditions. Patients in the Newborn Unit are at increased risk of developing high blood pressure. The persistence of this condition beyond the neonatal stage increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease in childhood and adulthood. Methodology. A case-control study wa

Hemodynamic adaptation to the extrauterine environment results in rapid blood pressure (BP) fluctuations during the neonatal period, particularly in premature infants. BP levels in neonates are influenced by several factors, including gestational age, birth weight, and maternal health. Diagnosing neonatal hypertension (HTN) typically requires a thorough diagnostic evaluation. Common etiologies include renal parenchymal disease, umbilical catheter-related thrombosis, and chronic lung disease. Despite the prevalence of HTN-associated factors and risk factors in neonates, management can be challe

With the advancement of neonatal care and routine blood pressure monitoring, neonatal hypertension (NHT) has been increasingly recognised over the past few decades. NHT is known to cause target organ damage and risk of renal dysfunction later in life. However, diagnosis and management of NHT remain challenging, and there is a lack of evidence on the persistence of hypertension beyond the neonatal period and factors predicting its severity. This study aimed to identify risk factors, clinical profiles, predictors of the severity of hypertension, and short-term outcomes of NHT. A cohort of neonat

OBJECTIVE: To describe the blood pressure outcomes of infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with idiopathic (nonsecondary) hypertension (HTN) who were discharged on antihypertensive therapy.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective, multicenter study of 14 centers within the Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium. We included all infants with a diagnosis of idiopathic HTN discharged from the NICU on antihypertensive treatment. The primary outcome was time to discontinuation of antihypertensive therapy, grouped into (≤6 months, >6 months to 1 year, and >1 year). Comparisons between

BACKGROUND: Neonatal hypertension is a rare but potentially serious condition that requires careful monitoring and treatment. Pharmacogenomics can help guide individualized drug therapy and improve outcomes.
CASE SUMMARY: We report a case of a preterm infant with multiple complications, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), sepsis, intracranial hemorrhage, and hypertension. The infant was treated with various drugs, including dexamethasone and amlodipine. The infant was diagnosed with neonatal hypertension based on blood pressure measurements exceeding the 95th percentile for his age an

The children hypertension is a serious threat to population health because uncontrolled children hypertension can result in exponential increasing of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, progression of kidney failure and premature death in adulthood. The main risk factors for primary children and adolescent hypertension are considered as cardiovascular biomarkers (fibro-blast growth), obesity, especially central obesity, overweight, low birth weight, high sodium intake, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, socioeconomic and ethnic factors, as well as family anamnesis. The sp

BACKGROUND: Clinical collapse in the newborn most often occurs secondary to sepsis, delivery complications, congenital cardiac defects, or inborn errors of metabolism. We report on a neonate with respiratory, cardiac, and hepatic failure, with disproportionate metabolic acidosis and systemic hypertension, found to be caused by a congenital neuroblastoma.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A term infant presented to our Level IV NICU via emergent transport at 12 hours of life with clinical and laboratory findings consistent with respiratory, cardiac, and hepatic failure. Typical workup for sepsis and cardiac e

INTRODUCTION: Sternotomy has been the most common approach for the correction of congenital cardiac defects, and questions arise surrounding the safety, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness of implementing minimally invasive techniques in congenital cardiac surgery, despite their global adoption over the past three decades. Nevertheless, the availability of published data from India on this subject remains limited. We aim to describe the techniques and outcomes of minimally invasive cardiac surgery in selected pediatric cases, a subject not previously detailed within the Indian population, and

Neonatal hypertension is uncommon but is becoming increasingly recognized. Normative blood pressure data are limited, as is research regarding the risks, treatment, and long-term outcomes. Therefore, there are no clinical practice guidelines and management is based on clinical judgment and expert opinion. Recognition of neonatal hypertension requires proper blood pressure measurement technique. When hypertension is present there should be a thorough clinical, laboratory, and imaging evaluation to promptly diagnose causes needing medical or surgical management. This review provides a practical

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Neonatal hypertension is increasingly recognized as improvements in neonatal intensive care have led to increased survival of premature infants. Among infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), the rates of hypertension are much higher than the general neonatal population. However, the etiology and pathophysiology of this increased risk of hypertension in neonates with lung disease remain unclear.
RECENT FINDINGS: Among infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, the rates of hypertension are much higher than the general neonatal population. New studies suggest outcomes in

Neonatal hypertension occurs in 1%-2% of neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) although may be underdiagnosed. Blood pressure values in premature neonates change rapidly in the first days and weeks of life which may make it more difficult to recognize abnormal blood pressure values. In addition, the proper blood pressure measurement technique must be used to ensure the accuracy of the measured values as most blood pressure devices are not manufactured specifically for this population. In premature neonates, the cause of the hypertension is most commonly related to prematurity-ass
