A mild thrombocytopenia is relatively frequent during pregnancy and has generally no consequences for either the mother or the fetus. We report a mother and newborn in the puerperium with hemorrhage secondary to factor VIII inhibitor. A 31-year-old gravida 1 para 1 delivered at a local clinic with a massive postpartum hemorrhage. The activated partial thromboplastin time was prolonged and factor VIII inhibitor was detected. The persistent hemorrhage improved following treatment, including transfusion, steroid therapy, and bypass therapy with factor VII formulations. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the complications of pregnancy and perinatal outcome in women with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of 38 singleton pregnancies, their course, obstetric management and perinatal outcome of 32 patients with known ITP was undertaken.

Evidence-based guidelines are presented for the management of haemophilia in the fetus and neonate. This includes information regarding the management of pregnancy and delivery as well as aspects of management during the early neonatal period. Specific issues regarding the mode of delivery and the risk of intra-cranial and extra-cranial haemorrhage are discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the cause and clinical characteristics of maternal cardiac arrest.
METHODS: The data of all cases of maternal cardiac arrest from January 2005 to December 2009 in Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College was retrospectively studied.
RESULTS: (1) A total of 41 maternal cardiac arrests (6 in prenatal period, 2 in the first stage of labor, 7 in the third stage of labor, 26 in postpartum period) were included. A rare case of a congenital brain tumor was diagnosed by sonography in a fetus at 37weeks' gestation. The ultrasound examination showed a large area of both increased echogenicity and echolucency in one hemisphere suggestive of brain tumor or hemorrhage. Extensive surgical removal of the tumor was performed and revealed an extremely rare histological type of hemangioma. We reported an interesting case of neonatal cavernous hemangioma, mimicking a large prenatal brain tumor and treated successively in neonatal period.

From February 2006 to March 2008, 42 pregnant women homozygous for the 677CT-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) allele were recruited in our obstetrics service for pregnancy at risk. All had antithrombotic prophylaxis with low-dose aspirin and/or low-molecular-weight heparin, supplemented with folic acid. In all, 2 women lost the fetus and 4 were lost to follow-up before delivery. A total of 36 women delivered term infants who all underwent transfontanellar ultrasonography within 24 hours of birth. A rare case of Crimean haemorrhagic fever in a pregnant woman during the sixth month of gestation is described. The typical clinical course of the disease is present with positive anamnesis and visible locus from tick bite. The optimal mode of delivery of a haemophilia carrier expecting a child is still a matter of uncertainty and debate. The aim of this commentary/review is to suggest that normal vaginal delivery should be the recommended mode of delivery for the majority of carriers, based on review of studies on obstetric aspects of haemophilia.
