Erbin deficiency exacerbates sepsis‑induced liver injury through mitochondrial ROS/NLRP3‑mediated inflammatory responses.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare interstitial lung disease with a poor prognosis that currently lacks effective treatment methods. Preventing the acute exacerbation of IPF, identifying the molecular subtypes of patients, providing personalized treatment, and developing individualized drugs are guidelines for predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM / 3PM) to promote the development of IPF. Oxidative stress (OS) is an important pathological process of IPF. However, the relationship between the expression levels of oxidative stress-related genes (OSRGs) an

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage presenting with bowel obstruction in a term neonate.

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage affects approximately 0.17%-0.21% of babies, although, usually, it remains asymptomatic, and therefore, the exact incidence is probably greater. The increased vascularity and relatively large size of the adrenal glands in neonates increases their vulnerability to haemorrhage during labour. There have been few cases that have presented with bowel obstruction.A term neonate was admitted with bilious vomiting, dehydration and mottled skin. He was afebrile but hypoglycaemic. Dark green aspirations were present on placement of a nasogastric tube, and emergent upper gast

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage with contralateral scrotal haematoma and inguinal ecchymosis.

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage (NAH) is more frequently described in neonates due to their relatively larger size and increased vascularity. While most are asymptomatic, they can present with anaemia, jaundice, abdominal mass, scrotal haematoma or more severe complications such as shock and adrenal insufficiency. Scrotal haematoma seen with NAH may be mistaken for other more serious conditions causing acute scrotum. Prompt sonographic examination that includes the bilateral adrenal glands may help to detect NAH early and to avoid unnecessary interventions. Cases of NAH causing ipsilateral inguin

Adrenal haemorrhage in term neonates: a retrospective study from the period 2001-2013.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence, risk factors and clinical presentations of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage (NAH) in uncomplicated, singleton and term deliveries. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 26,416 term neonates delivered between 2001 and 2013, and screened with abdominal ultrasonography. RESULTS: Of the 26,416 neonates, 74 (0.28%) displayed NAH; the male/female ratio was 1.55:1. Vaginal delivery was significantly more frequent than caesarean section among them (71 versus 3; 95.9% versus 4.1%). Unilateral bleeding occurred on the right side in 36 (48.7%), and on the left in 34 (45.9

[Adrenal haemorrhage in neonates: risk factors and diagnostic and clinical procedure].

UNLABELLED: Prenatal and neonatal adrenal haemorrhage is being increasingly frequently reported. We present a group of 13 neonates with adrenal haemorrhage, hospitalised in the Department of Paediatrics and Endocrinology of Warsaw Medical University from 2003 to 2007. THE AIM: of this study was to analyse: the perinatal history, haemorrhage predisposing factors, its size, localization and progress estimated by ultrasonography, as well as clinical, biochemical and hormonal findings indicating adrenal insufficiency. MATERIAL AND METHODS: the study group comprised 13 neonates hospitalised in th

Adult adrenal haemorrhage: an unrecognised complication of renal vein thrombosis.

There are many predisposing factors for neonatal adrenal haemorrhage but the causative factors are different in adults. Several cases of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage have been reported in association with renal vein thrombosis. This complication has not been documented in the adults. The presence of an adrenal mass in the setting of renal vein thrombosis should raise the possibility of adrenal haemorrhage even though this is extremely uncommon in adults.

Differential diagnosis of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage and congenital neuroblastoma by colour coded Doppler sonography and power Doppler sonography.

UNLABELLED: The differentiation between neonatal neuroblastoma and adrenal haemorrhage may be very difficult in the individual case. We investigated eight neonates with adrenal haemorrhage and one patient with congenital neuroblastoma by colour coded Doppler sonography and power Doppler sonography. Six haemorrhages were cystic, whereas the neuroblastoma and four adrenal haemorrhages had a solid appearance. Colour coded Doppler sonography and power Doppler demonstrated vessels within the neuroblastoma. In none of the ten adrenal haemorrhages could flow be shown either with conventional colour c

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage at bone scintigraphy: a case report.

We report the case of a girl with known large right-sided and small left-sided neonatal adrenal haematomas who underwent bone scintigraphy 23 days after birth for suspected osteomyelitis. The radionuclide examination showed uptake of bone tracer around the right-sided haematoma, but no abnormality on the left side.

[Adrenal gland hemorrhage in neonates--radiologic aspects].

INTRODUCTION: The relatively large adrenal glands of the newborn are vulnerable to mechanical trauma during delivery. Great birth weight, difficult labor, perinatal hypoxia and prematurity are predisposing factors of adrenal haemorrhage. Minor adrenal haemorrhage may not cause symptoms. Massive adrenal haemorrhage is uncommon. Symptoms include anaemia and jaundice associated with a suprarenal mass. In cases with severe blood loss acute shock may develop. In 5 to 10 per cent of cases the haemorrhage is bilateral. Ultrasonography has replaced urography in the diagnosis of this condition demonstr

The rare association of right adrenal haemorrhage and renal vein thrombosis diagnosed with duplex ultrasound.

Neonatal adrenal haemorrhage with renal vein thrombosis, an almost exclusively left-sided phenomenon, may occasionally be bilateral in the presence of inferior vena cava thrombus but has only twice been reported as confined to the right side. These cases required a combination of ultrasound (USS), excretion urography, cystoscopy with retrograde pyelography, radioisotopes, and CT to diagnose this rare right-sided combination. We report a case of right adrenal haemorrhage causing right renal vein thrombosis accurately diagnosed using only duplex USS and radioisotopes. The potential complications

Case report: neonatal adrenal haemorrhage presenting as an acute right scrotal swelling (haematoma)--value of ultrasound.

Acute scrotal swelling resulting from remote intra-abdominal pathology is a well recognized but rare entity. The present report relates to such a case in a neonate who presented with an acute right scrotal haematoma, adrenal haemorrhage not being suspected clinically, but detected ultrasonographically. In the imaging of neonatal scrotal swellings, abdominal ultrasound is important in excluding a primary intra-abdominal event.

Acute scrotal swelling: a sign of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage.

Two neonates presented with acute scrotal swelling suggestive of testicular torsion. Surgical exploration in one patient revealed an infected haematoma. Subsequent investigations including ultrasonography and urinary catecholamine determination disclosed adrenal haemorrhage as the cause of the scrotal haematoma. A second patient in whom a purplish discolouration of the right hemiscrotum was noted was also investigated with ultrasonography, which revealed a normal right testis and a right adrenal haematoma. Both cases of adrenal haemorrhage resolved spontaneously on conservative treatment. Adre

[Neonatal neuroblastoma detected by ultrasonic screening].

It was found a solid tumour of 24 x 28 x 31 mm size above the right kidney with ultrasound screening in a three days old newborn. After three days appeared cystic areas inside the tumour, so it was thought to adrenal haemorrhage. The tumour didn't decrease during two months and metastases developed in the liver. The urinary VMA level was normal, the HVA elevated. The MIBG scintigraphy was first negative, after a month pathognostic. The primer tumour and metastases disappeared after cyclophosphamid and Adriablastin treatment. The adrenal neuroblastoma can imitate the adrenal apoplexy, so it's i

Diagnosis and management of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage.

Three patients with neonatal adrenal haemorrhage (NAH), presenting with various signs and symptoms, are reported. The role of ultrasonography in diagnosis and management of this entity is emphasized. Conservative management is advocated, once the diagnosis is confirmed. Surgery is indicated only for cases of uncontrollable haemorrhage.

[Neonatal adrenal gland hemorrhage].

During a six-month period the authors have been diagnosing 25 neonatal adrenal haemorrhage by 870 ultrasound screening examinations. This frequency (28.7%) is surprisingly high in comparison with earlier postmortem estimated literature data (1.7-6.0%). In 24 survived neonates the adrenal haemorrhage was absorbed between 6 weeks and 4 months, no disturbances in the electrolyte levels were found, and the haemorrhage did not require any treatment. However, the authors observed pathological neurological symptoms or intracranial haemorrhage as more than 30% of the newborn infants suffering from adr

[Neonatal adrenal gland hemorrhage. The importance of echography in diagnosis and follow-up].

Neonatal Adrenal Haemorrhage (NAH) is a condition, which often presents with a palpable abdominal mass and prolonged jaundice. Supra-renal calcifications, seen on routine X-ray films, often result from adrenal haemorrhage in early life. Disturbed renal function at the ipsilateral side, as can be seen from excretory urography and renal scintigraphy, is a much less known condition in association with NAH. The case history of three patients is described. The presentation, diagnostical approach and course of NAH is discussed. Echography is the most important diagnostic tool. Echographic follow up

Adrenal haemorrhage presenting as an abdominal mass in the newborn.

Adrenal haemorrhage in the newborn, an entity well recognized at autopsy and as a cause of massive haemorrhage, may present as an asymptomatic abdominal mass. Three cases of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage are described and the literature is reviewed. Most of the affected babies were of normal birthweight, full term and with no history of difficult delivery or neonatal asphyxia. Most presented with a flank mass and jaundice. The haemoglobin was not always low. Intravenous urography and sonography were the investigations of choice. The most serious condition in the differential diagnosis is neurob

[Neonatal adrenal hemorrhage. A surgical problem?].

Eight cases of neonatal adrenal haemorrhage are reported, four of which were necropsy findings, two were treated conservatively and the remaining two underwent exploratory and evacuation laparotomy. The four latter patients recovered. Diverse clinical pictures which may be present at the onset of adrenal haemorrhage in newborns are reviewed and particularly the indications for surgery. In this report, one laparotomy was done to establish a differential diagnosis of retroperitoneal mass, and the other after onset of intense hemoperitoneum and signs of hypovolemic shock.
