OBJECTIVE: To compare morphometric parameters of the bladder, bladder trigone, and intramural ureter between human fetuses with and without anencephaly, adjusting for fetal age and weight.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-seven human fetuses were analyzed (23 controls and 14 with anencephaly), ranging from 11 to 35 weeks post-conception. Bladder dimensions, trigonal measurements, and right and left intramural ureter lengths were obtained by standardized microdissection and digital morphometry. Group comparisons were performed using Student's t-test. Multivariable linear regression models adjuste

Spinal dysraphism (SD) encompasses a spectrum of congenital malformations that develop during spinal embryogenesis (between the second and sixth gestational weeks). Broadly, SDs are classified into "open" or "closed" based on the presence (or lack of) of an overlying cutaneous defect. In general, open SDs are associated with significant neurologic impairments warranting prompt diagnosis and surgical correction-including in utero interventions. Radiology plays a key role in identification and distinguishing SDs thus providing information for surgical triage, prognostication, and outcome assessm

Closed spinal dysraphisms without a subcutaneous mass comprise diverse congenital anomalies arising from disrupted primary or secondary neurulation, often presenting with subtle clinical features yet significant long-term neurologic, orthopedic, and urologic morbidity. Pathophysiology frequently involves intrinsic cord maldevelopment or tethered cord syndrome. Imaging, particularly MR imaging, is central to diagnosis, enabling categorization into simple (eg, intradural lipoma, filum terminale lipoma, and persistent terminal ventricle) and complex lesions (eg, dermal sinus tract, neurenteric cy

Spinal cord vascular diseases are rare but pose a significant diagnostic challenge and can lead to devastating neurologic injury. Timely diagnosis is challenging given their heterogeneous presentations and overlapping features. This article provides an anatomic framework for understanding spinal vascular pathologies, key imaging patterns, and clinical nuances to improve diagnostic accuracy and guide treatment for a variety of conditions including spinal cord ischemia, spinal vascular malformations, spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas, spinal aneurysms, and cerebrospinal fluid venous fistulas.

UNLABELLED: Chromosome 1q21.1 copy number variants (CNVs) are associated with a broad and variable clinical spectrum encompassing neurodevelopmental, anthropometric, and systemic anomalies. The incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity of these rearrangements pose significant challenges for clinical interpretation and genotype-phenotype correlation. We retrospectively analyzed 42 pediatric patients with 1q21.1 CNVs, identified by chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), evaluated at a single tertiary center between 2019 and 2025. Patients were classified according to CNV type and localizat

Periventricular heterotopia (PH) is a rare developmental cause of intellectual disability (ID). One form is autosomal recessive PH with microcephaly (ARPHM), characterized by developmental delay and learning difficulties, with onset in infancy, plus recurrent seizures that onset in mid-adolescence. It is caused by biallelic variants in ARFGEF2. We report a consanguineous Pakistani family with three sibs afflicted with moderate/severe ID, developmental delay, muscle hypotonia, dystonia and contracture of distal limb joints, flat feet, and variable behavioral abnormalities. BACKGROUND: Dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) carry a significant risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), yet most literature has focused on angiographic features as predictors. The influence of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs) such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, alcohol use, dyslipidemia, obesity, and use of antithrombotic/anticoagulant agents on hemorrhagic presentation or follow-up outcomes remains largely unexplored.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched through August 2025 for observati

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease X-linked Type 1 (CMTX1), caused by GJB1 mutations, presents diagnostic challenges due to phenotypic heterogeneity and novel variants. This study reviews clinical data from 2021-2024 and investigates the mechanisms of two novel GJB1 variants.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed eight male patients, evaluating clinical signs, electrophysiology, and sural nerve biopsies. Pathogenicity of novel variants was assessed via bioinformatics, ChimeraX molecular modeling, and HeLa cell models focusing on protein localization and channel function (scratch-

BACKGROUND: Bobble-head doll syndrome (BHDS) is a rare movement disorder usually observed in children and associated with third ventricular lesions or hydrocephalus.
CASE REPORT: A 24-year-old man presented with progressive memory impairment, gait instability, urinary incontinence, and irregular no-no head tremor with a sensory trick. MRI revealed severe obstructive hydrocephalus due to an aqueductal web. Ventriculoperitoneal shunting was performed, and the tremor resolved within one week. Neurological symptoms improved, and he remained independent 18 months after surgery.
DISCUSSION: Adult

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are cerebrovascular diseases characterized by vascular lesions of the central nervous system (CNS) that can result in epileptic seizures, headaches, focal neurologic deficits (FNDs), and hemorrhagic stroke. Germline and somatic loss-of-function (LOF) mutations in one of the three established CCM-associated genes, namely CCM1 (or krev interaction trapped protein 1, KRIT1), CCM2, and CCM3 (or programmed cell death 10, PDCD10), which have been validated as core drivers of CCM pathogenesis and progression. Over the past few decades, a substantially improved

BACKGROUND: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a hereditary neuropathy characterized by progressive sensory and motor deficits. Over the past decade, the volume of CMT-related publications has increased steadily. This study aimed to examine global publication trends, key contributors, collaborative networks, and emerging research hotspots in CMT through bibliometric analysis.
METHODS: Publications related to CMT from 2014 to 2024 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer 1.6.20, CiteSpace 6.3.R1, and the R package "bibliometrix" were used to analyze annual publicatio

BACKGROUND: Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM) are vascular lesions prone to hemorrhage, but the influence of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors and commonly prescribed therapies on bleeding risk remains unclear.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis according to PRISMA 2020. PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus were searched from inception through August 31, 2025. Eligible observational studies and randomized trials reported adults with CCM stratified by modifiable cardiovascular risk factors or systemic therapies. MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy is an effective ablative procedure for medication-refractory essential tremor (ET). However, limited data exist regarding its safety in patients with coexisting intracranial disease such as cerebral cavernous malformations. We present a man in his late 60s with medication-refractory ET who underwent staged bilateral MRgFUS thalamotomy. Preoperative MRI demonstrated heterogeneously T1-hyperintense and T2-hyperintense lesions in the left caudate head and basal ganglia consistent with cavernous malformations, with an associated developmental veno

OBJECTIVE: Recent work has provided population-based estimates of the prevalence of cause-specific epilepsy across the lifespan in Denmark. We sought to externally validate these Danish "secondary epilepsy" findings to ascertain consistency across geographic regions.
METHODS: We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study using linked Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan administrative datasets. Epilepsy was identified using a validated algorithm. Point prevalence was calculated on December 31, 2018 among residents alive at that date. Secondary epilepsy was assigned when a recognized ant

The concurrent presentation of acquired neuropathy and hereditary neuropathy is both diagnostically challenging and important to recognize. This review focuses on cases of concurrent chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. Two cases of patients diagnosed with both CIDP and CMT1A are presented, and reported cases of CMT1A, CMT1B, and CMTX and CIDP overlap are reviewed. Although clinical history and examination have primacy, electrodiagnostic (EDx) testing and other supportive tests can help identify cases with dual pathology. Features that

This case report presents the first simultaneous occurrence of Chiari malformation type 1 and celiac disease in a 27-year-old male patient. To the best of our knowledge, there are no previously published cases in the literature. This rare association suggests that nutrient malabsorption caused by celiac disease may exacerbate the symptomatic severity of Chiari malformation. We recommend screening for celiac disease in patients diagnosed with Chiari malformation who present with anaemia, vitamin deficiency or unexplained gastrointestinal complaints. Conversely, in the presence of atypical neuro

Neuroenteric cysts (NCs) are rare benign lesions believed to originate from ectopic endodermal tissue. They are lined by gastrointestinal or respiratory epithelium capable of secreting mucin. Although most frequently located within the spinal canal, intracranial NCs are exceedingly rare and typically occur ventral to the brainstem. We report a case of a young female patient with an NC located in the cerebellopontine angle-an atypical site-exhibiting uncommon imaging features. Radiological evaluation revealed cystic contents with signal intensities similar to cerebrospinal fluid, a partially ca

OBJECTIVE: Stereoelectroencephalography-guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (SEEG-RFTC) has emerged as a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment for children with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. Although evidence from real-world studies remains limited, numerous pediatric cases have demonstrated promising outcomes. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the seizure outcomes of SEEG-RFTC in pediatric patients and identify predictive factors associated with seizure freedom.
METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted across two epilepsy centers, including 111 child

Focal cortical dysplasia type II (FCDII), a major cause of paediatric drug-resistant focal epilepsy, results from brain somatic variants in mTOR pathway genes, including germline and somatic second-hit loss-of-function variants in the mTOR repressor DEPDC5. Here, we present a proof-of-concept model of DEPDC5 two-hit inactivation mosaicism using patient-derived human cortical organoids (hCOs). Mosaic hCOs displayed increased mTOR activity that was rescued by the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin. Mosaic hCOs also exhibited dysmorphic-like neurons and enhanced neuronal excitability, recapitulating key FC
