This prospective clinical study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of botulinum toxin for temporary treatment of senile and congenital lower lid entropion. Seventeen patients with senile entropion and three children with congenital entropion were treated with botulinum toxin injection into the preseptal orbicularis muscle of lower lid. This resulted in transient relieve of the condition, which lasted for a period of 8-26 weeks. This technique is easy and effective for senile entropion as well as certain cases of congenital entropion.

Entropion is a malposition of the eyelid causing an abnormal inversion of the eyelid margin. This results in symptomatic contact of the eyelashes with the surface of the globe, resulting in corneal irritation. Symptoms primarily arise from irritation of the ocular surface. The previously reported surgical methods for eyelid entropion are basically manipulations of the skin or the conjunctival surface. When entropion is marked, manipulations also involve the tarsus. BACKGROUND: Congenital entropion and atrichosis of the lower eyelids associated with tarsal hypoplasia is a rare condition, with isolated reports in the literature and without previous pathologic examination.
METHODS: Case report. A father and son with mild entropion, lower eyelash atrichosis, and tarsal hypoplasia are described. A family pedigree demonstrates autosomal dominant inheritance.

The presence of epicanthal folds and lack of supratarsal folds are unique features in most Asian eyelids. Although many surgical procedures are available to eliminate epicanthal folds, scarring on the medial canthus is still an obstacle for surgeons to overcome. Congenital entropion is a rare eyelid anomaly that can cause chronic corneal erosions or ulceration. The diagnosis may be easily overlooked by both the pediatrician and the ophthalmologist, particularly when the lids are tightly closed in the crying child. PURPOSE: We studied a case of corneal ulceration in utero from lower eyelid entropion.
METHODS: A 3-week-old male infant was referred for examination of a left corneal ulcer that was present at birth and unresponsive to antibiotics.
RESULTS: Examination disclosed a lower eyelid entropion that was treated surgically by a nonincisional method, leaving a central leukoma after re-epithelialization.
CONCLUSION: Congenital lower eyelid entropion should be included in the differential diagnosis of congenital corneal opacities.
