Capsule Retractor Extension Technique for Ectopia Lentis.

INTRODUCTION: The surgical correction of ectopia lentis can range from routine to extremely challenging and largely depends on the extent of zonulopathy. When the lens-bag complex is more severe and inaccessible using standard techniques, the risk of complication increases. CASE PRESENTATION: This is a single patient, bilateral and sequential surgical case report in which we describe a technique to improve access to the lens-bag complex when out of reach using standard surgical techniques. We describe a simple technique to extend the reach of a capsule retractor by stretching and extending th

Chopper-Capsular fornix hook technique for severe ectopia lentis.

PURPOSE: To describe a simple yet effective method to access the lens in cases of severe ectopia lentis, in which over 50 % of the lens is covered by the dilated pupil. The lens-bag complex is hooked by a chopper peripheral to and just anterior to the equatorial plane and pulled toward the center. The lens-bag complex is centered by the chopper, which allows a continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis to be executed. OBSERVATIONS: This technique enables access to the lens in cases of extreme subluxation with preservation of the lens-bag complex for intraocular lens placement. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPO

Ophthalmological phenotype associated with biallelic CPAMD8 variants: first report in Mexican patients.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior segment dysgenesis is a heterogeneous group of developmental conditions affecting the anterior segment of the eye. These could have a significant impact on vision due to development of secondary childhood glaucoma. Their classification is complex due to genetic and clinical heterogeneity. Variants in the CPAMD8 gene have been shown to result in abnormalities such as cataract, iris hypoplasia, and ectopia lentis. METHODS: We described two unrelated Mexican patients with anterior segment dysgenesis in whom novel biallelic variants in the CPAMD8 gene were identified. Their

The first report of primary hypotonia with abnormal electromyogram and CBS mutation in a Chinese child.

BACKGROUND: Classic Homocystinuria (HCU) is the second most treatable aminoacidopathy. It affects multiple organs in varying degrees, and early recognition and treatment is crucial to improve the prognosis. Mutations in the CBS gene result in classic HCU, the most common form. Genetic testing is important for the accurate diagnosis of this severe disorder. METHOD: Case report. RESULT: A 6-year-old boy presented with high myopia, ectopia lentis, and hypotonia. A brain MRI showed no abnormality, and his electromyogram implicated myogenic damage. His serum homocysteine was 277.5 µmol/L (normal ≤

Method for Generation of adamtsl4 Knock-Out Zebrafish Lines Using CRRISPR/Cas9 System.

Congenital ectopia lentis (CEL) is a rare pediatric ocular disorder characterized by zonular fiber defects leading to lens dislocation and is genetically heterogeneous. Among known causes, biallelic mutations in ADAMTSL-4 represent the second most common genetic contributor, frequently associated with ectopia pupillae (EP)-a distinct and clinically significant feature. However, the mechanisms by which ADAMTSL-4 mutations lead to these ocular abnormalities remain poorly understood, partly due to the lack of effective animal models. In this study, we generated adamtsl-4 knock-out zebrafish lines
