[Transient visual loss in morning glory syndrome].

The causes of monocular transient visual loss (TVL) are diverse, necessitating a careful approach to diagnosis and differential evaluation of multiple conditions. In rare cases, TVL may occur in association with optic disc anomalies such as morning glory syndrome (MGS), coloboma, or optic disc drusen. The purpose of this article is to present a clinical case of TVL in a patient with MGS. A 25-year-old patient reported experiencing TVL in the left eye over the past 3-4 years, triggered by physical exertion, straining, or visual tasks requiring concentration. Ophthalmoscopy revealed MGS in the l

OPTIC DISK COLOBOMA MAY TRIGGER MULTIPLE EVANESCENT WHITE DOT SYNDROME: EXPANDING THE CLINICAL SPECTRUM.

PURPOSE: To report a case of secondary multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) that occurred in a patient with optic disk coloboma. METHODS: A case report. RESULTS: A 23-year-old otherwise healthy man experienced decreased vision and photopsia in the right eye for one month. He reported poor visual acuity in the left eye because of refractive amblyopia. His best-corrected visual acuity was 20/100 in the right eye and 20/80 in the left eye. An examination of the right eye showed that the patient had optic disk coloboma. The results of multimodal imaging indicated MEWDS in the right eye

Clinical-electroretinography mismatch in a patient with non-syndromic BBS1-associated retinal degeneration.

A male patient in his late thirties, homozygous for the M390R Bardet-Biedl Syndrome-1 (BBS1) variant, began follow-up in early adulthood, due to decreased visual acuity and photophobia. Fundus examination showed bilateral temporal wedge-shaped pallor of the optic disc and atrophic maculopathy, translating into central hypoautofluorescence on fundus autofluorescence. Even though clinical and multimodal imaging features suggested cone-dominant degeneration, electroretinography (ERG) showed reduced scotopic and photopic responses, with greater scotopic impairment. Despite a thorough systemic eval

Intraocular Pressure After Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Injection in Eyes With a Mineralized Bruch's Membrane Caused by Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum.

PURPOSE: To assess acute IOP changes after anti-VEGF injections in patients with Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) compared to other retinal diseases. METHODS: Twenty eyes of patients with PXE (mean age 63.4 ± 6.4 years) and 30 control eyes (mean age 64.8 ± 11.8 years) were included. IOP was measured prior and one, five, and 15 minutes after intravitreal injection of 50 µL anti-VEGF agent. The post-injection IOP curve was modeled by an exponential decay function, and the resulting exponential time constant (tau) served as the outcome variable in the multivariable models. RESULTS: IOP raised mar

Spectrum of Ophthalmic Manifestations in Patients With Transfusion-Dependent Thalassemia.

INTRODUCTION: Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder characterized by impaired hemoglobin production, necessitating regular blood transfusions to manage anemia and associated complications. This condition also poses a significant risk for a range of ophthalmic manifestations due to factors such as iron overload from repeated transfusions, organ dysfunctions, and metabolic imbalances. This research aimed to evaluate the prevalence of ophthalmic anomalies in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) and to ascertain their correlation with serum ferritin levels, hemoglobin concent

Early posterior cranial vault distraction in syndromic craniosynostosis: orbital and ocular changes.

Craniosynostosis is a condition involving premature fusion of the skull, which causes increased intracranial pressure. Posterior cranial vault expansion distraction osteogenesis (PCVDO) may be applied to expand the intracranial volume and relieve the increased intracranial pressure, but its impact on intraorbital volume and ophthalmology outcomes remains unclear. This study was performed to evaluate the changes in intracranial and intraorbital volumes and key ophthalmological parameters (degree of proptosis, intraocular pressure, lagophthalmos, papilledema, optic disc hyperaemia, optic atrophy

Deep learning-based optic disc classification is affected by optic-disc tilt.

We aimed to determine the effect of optic disc tilt on deep learning-based optic disc classification. A total of 2507 fundus photographs were acquired from 2236 eyes of 1809 subjects (mean age of 46 years; 53% men). Among all photographs, 1010 (40.3%) had tilted optic discs. Image annotation was performed to label pathologic changes of the optic disc (normal, glaucomatous optic disc changes, disc swelling, and disc pallor). Deep learning-based classification modeling was implemented to develop optic-disc appearance classification models with the photographs of all subjects and those with and w

Multimodal imaging of congenital peri-papillary arterial loops presenting with vitreous hemorrage in a young male: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital arterial peripapillary loops are rare entities and very few cases are described in literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 25-year-old Asian man presented a diffuse vitreous hemorrhage in his Left Eye (LE). OCT-A revealed the presence of bilateral vascular loops at the optic nerve head. Fluorescein angiography (FA) confirmed the vascular abnormality in both eyes, with arterial filling in early phases and no dye leakage. At twenty days of follow up, the vitreous hemorrhage in the LE completely reabsorbed and BCVA improved from 20/63 to 20/20. CONCLUSION: Congenital peripapill

Optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography findings in optic nerve hypoplasia and their relationships with visual acuity.

This study aimed to quantitatively assess the thickness of the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness, as well as the microvascular alterations in the macula and peripapillary regions, in optic nerve hypoplasia (ONH) patients compared to normal controls. This was achieved through the utilization of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), with a specific focus on elucidating the association between these structural alterations and visual acuity. We included a total of 17 eyes of 12 ONH patients, and 34 eyes of
