Interplay between genomic architecture alterations and GDF6 regulation: A candidate mechanism in Nablus mask-like facial syndrome.

Nablus mask-like facial syndrome (NMLFS) is a very rare disorder associated with 8q22.1q22 microdeletions and characterized by a distinctive facial phenotype and variable neurological, cardiological, and genital anomalies. However, not all affected individuals with overlapping deletions present the mask-like phenotype, thus suggesting the involvement of an additional regulatory mechanism. Here, we perform a comparative analysis of previously reported affected individuals (n = 30) with deletions in the 8q21q22 region, stratified by the presence or absence of the NMLFS phenotype, and including a

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Eye Movements in Dizziness and Vertigo: A Comprehensive Review.

Dizziness and vertigo, common neurologic complaints, remain challenging to diagnose accurately in both emergency and outpatient settings. Although complex, these conditions frequently present with specific abnormalities of eye movement that contain precise signals allowing for localization and diagnosis. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have enabled automated analysis of eye-movement recordings obtained using video-oculography and related technologies, reducing barriers to their clinical use. In this review, AI-based approaches to eye movement are analyzed t

Thermographic assessment of surface temperature distribution and agreement between a thermographic camera, infrared thermometer, and rectal temperature in exercising horses under tropical climate conditions.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Infrared thermography has become an increasingly valuable non-invasive imaging technique for monitoring physiological status and detecting abnormalities in horses. However, its application under tropical environmental conditions remains insufficiently investigated, particularly regarding the influence of ambient conditions on measurement accuracy and agreement with conventional temperature assessment methods. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement among a thermographic camera (TC), infrared thermometer (IR), and rectal temperature (RT), characterize body surface tempera

Intrafamilial phenotypic variation in four Palestinian siblings with CFAP418-related ciliopathy: a familial case series.

BACKGROUND: Biallelic CFAP418 variants cause retinal degeneration with variable extraocular findings. The principal contribution of this familial case series is a comparison of four affected siblings carrying the same previously reported splice-donor variant, with explicit separation of original clinical records from recalled history and historical summaries. CASE PRESENTATION: Four Palestinian siblings from a consanguineous family had homozygosity for CFAP418 NM_177965.3:c.155 + 1G > A reported in a 2018 family research letter; a 2019 clinical laboratory report confirmed the variant in the o

Modified Danzhi Xiaoyao San ameliorates depression-associated dry eye by modulating sphingolipid metabolism across the liver, hippocampus, and lacrimal gland.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Modified Danzhi Xiaoyao San (MDZXYS) originates from Xue Ji's "Internal Medicine Abstract" (Ming Dynasty), which derived from the Song Dynasty Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang Xiao-Yao Powder by adding Moutan Cortex and Gardeniae Fructus. It is traditionally used to soothe the liver, relieve depression, and clear stagnant heat associated with liver-qi stagnation transforming into fire. Grounded in the theory that "the liver opens into the eyes," liver-soothing and heat-clearing strategy has long been applied to treat ocular diseases. Previous studies have reported ben

The Eye-Brain Axis in High Myopia: From Retinal Deformation to Cortical Network Reorganization.

High myopia is a major cause of irreversible visual impairment and is increasingly recognized as a condition involving interactions between ocular remodeling and central neural systems. This scoping review synthesizes current evidence on structural, functional, genetic, and regulatory links between the eye and brain in high myopia. We systematically searched PubMed and Web of Science from database inception to August 2026, identifying 54 eligible primary studies. The available evidence indicates that high myopia is associated with retinal and optic nerve abnormalities, altered white matter mic

Combined antegrade and retrograde transarterial approaches for embolization of a traumatic carotid‑cavernous fistula with concomitant middle meningeal arteriovenous fistula.

Endovascular treatment (EVT) is a useful modality for traumatic carotid‑cavernous fistulas (CCFs); in rare cases, combined antegrade and retrograde transarterial approaches may be applied for embolization of the fistula with concomitant internal carotid artery (ICA) sacrifice and preservation of the ophthalmic artery (OphA). A 62‑year‑old female patient sustained a motor vehicle accident and developed proptosis, chemosis, and congestion in her right eye, while no abnormalities in ocular motility or visual acuity were noted. Computed tomography angiography confirmed the CCF. Under general anest

A rare case of aphakia associated with anterior segment malformation in a cocker spaniel puppy.

This report describes a rare case of bilateral congenital aphakia with anterior segment malformation in a 12-week-old male cocker spaniel puppy. The puppy was initially suspected of having glaucoma and was subsequently diagnosed with anterior segment dysgenesis and aphakia resulting in blindness. Ophthalmic examination showed corneal opacity, absence of pupillary openings, and negative pupillary light reflexes. B-mode and high-frequency ultrasonography showed absence of the lens, poorly defined anterior chambers, and hyperechoic tissue adherent to the cornea, consistent with anterior segment d

Training effects in oculography in multiple sclerosis patients: a one-year longitudinal study.

PURPOSE: Longitudinal quantitative data on eye movement abnormalities in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) are scarce, and the impact of repeated oculomotor testing on these measures is unknown. We aimed to use infrared oculography to characterise one-year changes in oculomotor metrics in PwMS and to determine whether frequent exposure to eye movement tasks influences these measurements. METHODS: At baseline, 3- and 12 months 86 PwMS and 22 healthy controls (HCs, baseline, and 3 months only) were prospectively assessed using infrared oculography (DEMoNS protocol), including fixation, pro-
