The Presentation Patterns of Tessier 7 Clefts.

Given its rarity, there are few large-number studies regarding Tessier 7 clefts. A review and classification of 81 Tessier 7 patients who presented to our craniofacial center was performed. The most common Tessier 7 clefts were middle positioned, followed by agenetic, superiorly rotated, and inferiorly rotated clefts, respectively. A total of 77/81 patients had simple macrostomia and 4/81 patients had macrostomia with muscle diastasis. The most common associated anomalies were craniofacial microsomia, skin tags, and ear anomalies occurring in 80%, 71%, and 37% of patients, respectively. In thi

Upper and lower eyelid contour and positional changes after deep skin grafts in ablepharon macrostomia syndrome.

Ablepharon macrostomia syndrome is a rare congenital disorder caused by autosomal-dominant TWIST2 mutations. This condition is characterized by redundant skin, low-set ears, macrostomia, ambiguous genitalia, and underdevelopment of the both upper and lower eyelids. The shortening of the anterior lamella, septum and levator aponeurosis lead to a severe corneal exposure within the first hours of life. Since McCarthy and West's first report in 1977, 21 AMS cases have been documented. We report a new AMS case with a quantitative analysis of palpebral fissure changes following skin grafts over the

Internal jugular vein anomaly in a young patient with facial hemangioma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic vascular anomalies originating from the internal jugular vein are uncommon and often manifest as a mass in the neck region. CASE PRESENTATION: This case report provides a 17-year-old Iranian female patient with no significant medical history other than a substantial cutaneous hemangioma on her face examined for dental operations. Computed tomography angiography revealed two major problems with blood vessels: the right internal jugular vein (IJV) was missing from the jugular foramen to the thoracic inlet, and the left internal jugular vein had two separate venous channels

Complications Following Karapandzic Flap Reconstruction of the Lip: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background and Objectives: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lip is a common malignancy of the oral and maxillofacial region. Medium-to-large post-excisional defects often require reconstructive techniques that preserve oral competence, function, and facial aesthetics. Despite its broad clinical use, the Karapandzic flap lacks comprehensive evidence describing its postoperative outcomes and associated complications. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated all consecutive patients who underwent lip SCC excision followed by Karapandzic flap reconstruction at a tertiar

Novel heterozygous mutation in MYH3 causes contractures, pterygia, and spondylocarpostarsal fusion syndrome 1: A case report.

RATIONALE: Contractures, pterygia, and spondylocarpotarsal fusion syndrome (CPSFS) comprises a group of extremely rare genetic disorders characterized by congenital craniofacial and musculoskeletal abnormalities. With fewer than 500 cases reported globally, this scarcity contributes to limited clinical recognition, frequent diagnostic delays or errors, and missed opportunities for timely intervention. We present this case to enhance awareness of CPSFS and report a novel pathogenic variant in MYH3 (previously undocumented in the literature) that broadens the known mutational spectrum of MYH3 an

Taking care of patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa from birth to adulthood: a multidisciplinary Italian Delphi consensus.

BACKGROUND: Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a rare and severe mucocutaneous fragility disorder due to mutations in the COL7A1 gene encoding collagen VII, the major constituent of anchoring fibrils essential for epithelial adhesion. RDEB is characterized by unremitting blistering, chronic painful wounds and fibrotic scarring that results in hand and foot pseudosyndactyly, microstomia, and esophageal strictures. RDEB complications include nutritional compromise, chronic anemia, failure to thrive, delayed puberty, osteoporosis, and renal involvement. In addition, early onset

Hyalase in Dermatology: Applications Beyond Filler Management.

BACKGROUND: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a key extracellular matrix component in the skin. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down HA into monosaccharides. The FDA has approved this enzyme for hypodermoclysis, drug absorption enhancement, and subcutaneous urography. The most common application of this enzyme is the dissolution of HA fillers. AIM: This study aimed to explore the various applications of hyaluronidase beyond its common medical uses. Moreover, we illustrate the mechanism by which this enzyme is helpful in conditions such as drug extravasation, scleroderma, scleromyxedema, and kelo

Cross-sectional study on association of autoantibodies and organ involvement in systemic sclerosis patients.

INTRODUCTION: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease characterised by inflammation, fibrosis, and vascular abnormalities affecting multiple organs, including the skin, lungs, heart and kidneys. Between 75% and 95% of SSc patients have positive SSc-associated autoantibodies. The 2013 European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for SSc includes autoantibodies as an important domain, highlighting their importance when clinical manifestations are subtle. However, the association of autoantibodies and specific clinical manifestations

The Sesquialter (First and a Halfth) Branchial Cleft Anomaly.

A 6-month-old presented with a sinus in the neck coursing from below the body of the mandible, between the carotid and parotid spaces, and terminating posterior to the stylomastoid foramen on MRI. Facial nerve monitoring was used, a lacrimal probe was placed in the sinus, an elliptical incision was made in the skin, and the tract was followed to the parapharyngeal space. Pathology demonstrated a keratinous squamous epithelial lining, skin adnexae, and elastic cartilage. Because there were clinical, radiographic, and pathological features intermediate to first and second branchial anomalies, we

Right-Sided Type IV Branchial Cleft Anomaly in a Seven-Year-Old Boy: A Case Report.

Type IV branchial cleft anomalies, which can present as a cyst, sinus, or fistula, are the rarest type of branchial cleft anomalies. Although they can present at any age, they typically present during childhood with a history of frequent neck abscesses. Type IV branchial cleft anomalies usually occur on the left side near the medial lower border of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle and can extend to the pyriform sinus in the larynx. They can also present with thyroid involvement. Imaging with ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sinogram, and direct laryng

Management of a First Branchial Cleft Fistula in an Adult Patient: A Case Report and Literature Review.

First branchial cleft anomalies (FBCAs) are uncommon congenital malformations that develop due to incomplete closure of the first branchial cleft during embryonic development. They represent a small proportion of all branchial cleft anomalies. These lesions, which may present as cysts, sinuses, or fistulas, pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their nonspecific clinical manifestations and complex anatomical relationships, particularly with the facial nerve and parotid gland. This case report describes a 47-year-old male patient presenting with recurrent infections and

Adult-Onset Cervical Lymphatic Malformation: A Case Report.

Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are low-flow vascular malformations of lymphatic origin that are typically diagnosed in childhood, with cervicofacial LMs posing particular risks for functional and cosmetic morbidity. Fewer than 10% of LMs present after adolescence, and adult-onset cervical cases are exceedingly rare, with only isolated reports in the literature. Adult-onset cervical LMs often mimic other cystic neck lesions, complicating diagnosis and delaying management. We report the case of a 20-year-old male who presented with a painless, slowly enlarging left upper neck mass. Ultrasound dem

A case report of tracheal duplication cyst with steatocystomatous histology: a rare embryological overlap.

BACKGROUND: Tracheal duplication cysts (TDCs) are rare congenital anomalies caused by defects in the duplication of the foregut, that is of endodermal origin. These cysts are usually present during childhood and cases in adults are seen very rarely. Steatocystoma multiplex is a disorder of multiple sebaceous cysts, most commonly from skin appendages, that has ectodermal origin. The presence of the two coexisting in the same place has never been reported in literature. We report the first case of a unique embryological overlap between ectoderm and endoderm in a TDC.
