Lip defects due to lip tumor surgery need proper reconstruction to preserve their function. Traditional methods offer various options for lip repair, but each has limitations, and can lead to deformity, asymmetry, or functional impairment. This study aimed to investigate the clinical application of mandibular tongue-shaped flap reconstruction for postoperative defects following lip tumor surgery. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 29 patients with lip tumors treated between February 2018 and August 2024. Patients were divided into two groups based on the surgical me

Ablepharon-macrostomia syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by TWIST2 mutations and anterior lamellar dysgenesis. Timely intervention is critical to prevent exposure keratopathy, corneal ulceration, and permanent vision loss. We report a novel approach to multiplanar eyelid reconstruction in ablepharon-macrostomia syndrome involving use of a modified reverse hatchet flap in 1 lower eyelid along with division at the eyelid margin, recession of the eyelid retractors in conjunction with preputial skin grafting for anterior lamellar restoration in the other 3 eyelids.

Tessier No. 7 cleft, known as lateral facial cleft, is a rare and understudied entity with an incidence of 1/80,000-1/300,000 live births. Besides perioral tissue abnormalities manifesting as macrostomia, Tessier 7 cleft also involves anomalies of the underlying bony structures. It can appear as part of a syndrome, such as Treacher-Collins syndrome or Goldenhar/Orbito-Auriculo-Vestibular Spectrum, or as an isolated form (unilateral or bilateral) with variable expressions. Bilateral maxillary duplication in Tessier 7 cleft is considered extremely rare, accounting for only two previously present

An 83-year-old female patient presented to our nephrology outpatient clinic with complaints of weakness, edema, abdominal pain, and constipation, with a preliminary diagnosis of chronic kidney failure related to heart failure. The patient had undergone mitral valve replacement surgery 10 years prior and was diagnosed with chronic renal failure six years prior. Laboratory tests revealed mild normochromic normocytic anemia, consistently high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) above 100 mm/h, and nephrotic-range proteinuria, prompting suspicion of multiple myeloma. Further investigations, inclu

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Second branchial cysts are benign dysembryological cystic tumors that develop in the antero-lateral part of the neck. They represent 2 % of laterocervical tumors of the neck and are usually diagnosed before adulthood. The cysts can increase in size and cause multiple complications. Ultrasound and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) confirm their cystic nature. Treatment consists of surgical excision.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with a left laterocervical swelling measuring 8 cm, which had been present for 18 months witho

Congenital midline cervical cleft is a rare anomaly classified as a malformation of the branchial arches and represents less than 2% of congenital cervical malformations. Its clinical presentation involves cervical midline deformities: cephalic nodular lesion, linear groove with atrophic surface, and/or caudal sinus. Other midline alterations of variable complexity may also be present. Early treatment allows for avoiding long-term complications. Based on our experience in four clinical cases, a performed literature search on the topic in the last twenty years, and subsequent discussion of the

Cervical lymphangioma is a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system that shows a predilection for the head and neck regions. They are most common in children between the ages of three and five and are rarely present in adults. While over 90% of lymphatic malformations are congenital, they can also manifest later due to factors such as trauma, infection, tumors, or medical procedures. They are often asymptomatic, but symptoms, if present, vary depending on the location of the tumor. Imaging techniques such as ultrasonography and computed tomography can aid in accurately mapping the exten

This report presents a case of a six-year-old male patient with recurrent left-sided neck abscesses who presented four times over a span of two years. At each presentation, the child had developed left-sided neck swelling, pain, and fevers that required hospital admission. In the patient's most recent admission in 2020, a fourth branchial cleft anomaly was confirmed on CT, and the patient was taken to the operation theatre for ultrasound-guided aspiration and cauterisation of the sinus fistula tract under direct pharyngoscopy. This allowed for definitive management of the area and, to date, ha

Near-total to total lower lip defects present significant challenges for reconstructive surgeons, requiring restoration of oral competency, maximization of oral aperture, and cosmetic appearance. This report explores a novel reconstructive option addressing all three needs. Traditionally, local flap options restore cosmesis and oral competency by recruiting local tissue of similar thickness, pliability, and appearance, but often result in microstomia. Conversely, free flaps prevent microstomia but can lead to bulky and cosmetically unacceptable reconstructions. We present the first case of usi

A dimensionally accurate impression is one of the primary determinants for the precise fabrication of complete denture prostheses in microstomia patients. This can be achieved with the help of sectional trays. This technical report describes the fabrication of a sectional impression tray with a reusable sectional handle using magnets. The handles can be sterilized and reused, thus saving clinical time for future use. The proposed method provides ease of reassembling and disassembling, easy placement, and guided orientation of the two tray segments.

Providing fixed implant-supported prostheses for edentulous patients with microstomia or limited mouth opening is challenging. The clinical treatment of a patient who was a multiple amputee with microstomia and a complete loss of lips elasticity is described. A custom half-sectioned prosthesis was fabricated to resolve numerous difficulties. A screw-retained complete implant-supported prosthesis was developed from a monolithic zirconia framework supported by 4 implants and with digital scanning and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing of the prosthesis. The protocol achieved

Otocephaly is a rare congenital abnormality characterized by the absence or underdevelopment of the mandible, misplacement of the ears towards the front, a small mouth, and absence or underdevelopment of the tongue. The syndrome complex of otocephaly can be categorized into four types based on associated anomalies. We present a case of this congenital anomaly in a newborn baby delivered by a 40-year-old woman who presented in active labor with premature rupture of membranes. Unfortunately, the newborn did not survive due to severe respiratory distress, which was consistent with the clinical fe

UNLABELLED: Moebius syndrome (MBS) is a rare congenital nonprogressive neuromuscular disorder characterized by partial or complete, unilateral or bilateral paralysis of the facial (VII) and abducens (VI) cranial nerves (CNs). In this syndrome bilateral facial palsy may occur with the involvement of VII CN and impaired eye movements can be there because of the involvement of VI CN. It can also be associated with other CN palsies, orofacial anomalies, and limb defects. MBS is diagnosed exclusively on the basis of clinical criteria, although causative genetic patterns are being documented in rece

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review describes the fundamental principles and recent advances in the reconstruction of total lower lip defects to restore peri-oral aesthetic and function.
RECENT FINDINGS: Modifications to the Abbe flap and visor flap have recently been described. Recent advances to free flap techniques have focused on dynamic restoration of lower lip sling function after reconstruction. This involves the transfer of innervated or noninnervated muscle tissue to reconstruct the lower lip to restore the sphincter function of the lips.
SUMMARY: The reconstructive goals for a full thic
