Bilateral chondrocutaneous branchial remnants (CCBRs) are rare congenital anomalies arising from the branchial apparatus. Given that they may be associated with other congenital anomalies, thorough physical examination and targeted investigations are recommended. Although typically asymptomatic, early intervention is favored for optimal cosmetic results and psychosocial well-being. Definitive management involves complete excision of both the cutaneous lesion and its underlying cartilaginous component. We present the case of a 10-year-old with bilateral neck masses, one of which appeared as a p

Congenital midline cervical cleft (CMCC) is a rare congenital anomaly of the anterior neck, typically diagnosed postnatally based on characteristic physical findings. Prenatal detection is unlikely because the lesion is superficial and does not alter fetal anatomy or physiology in a manner detectable on routine imaging. We present a case of CMCC diagnosed after birth in a neonate whose pregnancy was notable only for transient antenatal polyhydramnios. A 27-year-old gravida 2, para 1 presented at term in spontaneous labor following a pregnancy complicated by transient polyhydramnios that resolv

PURPOSE: Most artificial intelligence models for electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation rely on task-specific supervised learning, requiring dedicated labeled datasets for each diagnostic task and limiting scalability across diverse cardiac conditions. This study investigated whether vision-language learning from paired ECG recordings and summary reports could enable transferable ECG representations without task-specific supervised training.
METHODS: We developed ECG-VLM, a contrastive vision-language model consisting of a Transformer-based image encoder and a text encoder, trained on 800,034

An accessory tragus-a congenital malformation of part of the external ear-is an abnormal appendage developed from the first pharyngeal (or branchial) arch. In humans, an accessory tragus can be associated with other abnormalities as part of congenital malformative syndromes, most of which are transmitted in an autosomal dominant mode. Three cutaneous exophytic lesions were detected in the right preauricular region of a 2.5-y-old, castrated male European shorthair cat. Two of these lesions were submitted for histologic examination and were diagnosed as accessory tragi. They consisted of a verti

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Third and fourth branchial cleft cysts (BCCs) are rare and often mimic other lower-neck cystic lesions. Tract conspicuity is frequently limited on single-time-point imaging, particularly during inflammation. We report a 25-year institutional experience evaluating Proportion Undergoing Surgery and Pathology-Confirmed BCC Rate.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively queried radiology reports (January 2000-December 2024) to identify suspected third and fourth BCCs. Reports and images were reviewed to classify lesions; pathology was cross-referenced for operated cases.

Thyroid nodules and nodule-like lesions, as well as other structural abnormalities of the thyroid gland, are often detected during ultrasonography. True thyroid nodules should be evaluated for sonographic features suggestive of malignancy and appropriately triaged for further diagnostic workup to reduce the risk of missed thyroid cancer. In addition to true thyroid nodules, other lesions may coexist with or mimic them. Among these are branchial cleft cysts and thyroglossal duct cysts, 2 common embryological remnants. Although these lesions are typically found in the lateral neck and midline, r

Transverse facial cleft is a rare congenital malformation frequently associated with anomalies of the first and second branchial arches. We report a case of transverse facial cleft repaired using a small triangular flap technique designed to improve aesthetic and functional outcomes while minimizing scar formation. A 5-day-old infant presented with a right transverse facial cleft and bilateral accessory auricles without additional anomalies. Surgical repair was performed at 5 months of age. A 2-mm triangular flap was designed at the commissure, followed by excision of redundant skin and mucosa

Cytomorphological evaluation of peripheral blood provides information about the health status of animals, in addition to being indicators of environmental contamination. However, reference data regarding the size and shape of elasmobranch blood cells is limited. This work aimed to determine the morphological and morphometric of Potamotrygon motoro and Potamotrygon orbignyi blood cells. The stingrays were captured in white water environments in the lower Solimões River region, state of Amazonas, Brazil. Blood was obtained through puncture of the branchial artery using syringes with 10% EDTA. Mo

Congenital midline cervical cleft (CMCC) is a rare developmental anomaly of the anterior neck, often misdiagnosed due to its similarity to other cervical malformations. It results from impaired midline fusion of the branchial arches, leading to a linear skin defect with a fibrotic cord and, in some cases, a sinus tract. Left untreated, CMCC can cause progressive contracture, restricted neck mobility, and aesthetic deformities. This review examines the embryological basis, clinical presentation, histopathological characteristics, differential diagnosis, and surgical management of CMCC, with a f

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic vascular anomalies originating from the internal jugular vein are uncommon and often manifest as a mass in the neck region.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case report provides a 17-year-old Iranian female patient with no significant medical history other than a substantial cutaneous hemangioma on her face examined for dental operations. Computed tomography angiography revealed two major problems with blood vessels: the right internal jugular vein (IJV) was missing from the jugular foramen to the thoracic inlet, and the left internal jugular vein had two separate venous channels

First branchial cleft anomalies (FBCAs) are uncommon congenital malformations that develop due to incomplete closure of the first branchial cleft during embryonic development. They represent a small proportion of all branchial cleft anomalies. These lesions, which may present as cysts, sinuses, or fistulas, pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their nonspecific clinical manifestations and complex anatomical relationships, particularly with the facial nerve and parotid gland. This case report describes a 47-year-old male patient presenting with recurrent infections and

Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are low-flow vascular malformations of lymphatic origin that are typically diagnosed in childhood, with cervicofacial LMs posing particular risks for functional and cosmetic morbidity. Fewer than 10% of LMs present after adolescence, and adult-onset cervical cases are exceedingly rare, with only isolated reports in the literature. Adult-onset cervical LMs often mimic other cystic neck lesions, complicating diagnosis and delaying management. We report the case of a 20-year-old male who presented with a painless, slowly enlarging left upper neck mass. Ultrasound dem

BACKGROUND: Tracheal duplication cysts (TDCs) are rare congenital anomalies caused by defects in the duplication of the foregut, that is of endodermal origin. These cysts are usually present during childhood and cases in adults are seen very rarely. Steatocystoma multiplex is a disorder of multiple sebaceous cysts, most commonly from skin appendages, that has ectodermal origin. The presence of the two coexisting in the same place has never been reported in literature. We report the first case of a unique embryological overlap between ectoderm and endoderm in a TDC.

Parotid gland agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly with fewer than 30 cases reported in the literature. It can present with xerostomia, facial asymmetry, recurrent infections, or may be entirely asymptomatic. Due to its rarity and potential to mimic other pathological conditions, especially in cases of facial asymmetry, awareness is crucial for accurate diagnosis. We report the case of a 39-year-old man referred to our clinic for routine follow-up of a thyroid nodule. The patient had no history of systemic illness or symptoms related to salivary gland dysfunction. During neck ultrasonography,

SATB2-associated syndrome (SAS, glass syndrome, OMIM#612313) is a neurodevelopmental autosomal dominant disorder with frequent craniofacial abnormalities including palatal and dental anomalies. To assess the role of Satb2 in craniofacial development, we analyzed mutant mice at different stages of development. Here, we show that Satb2 is broadly expressed in early embryonic mouse development including the mesenchyme of the second and third arches. Satb2-/- mutant mice exhibit microglossia, a shortened lower jaw, smaller trigeminal ganglia, and larger thyroids. We correlate these findings with t

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Second branchial cysts are benign dysembryological cystic tumors that develop in the antero-lateral part of the neck. They represent 2 % of laterocervical tumors of the neck and are usually diagnosed before adulthood. The cysts can increase in size and cause multiple complications. Ultrasound and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) confirm their cystic nature. Treatment consists of surgical excision.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with a left laterocervical swelling measuring 8 cm, which had been present for 18 months witho

Congenital midline cervical cleft is a rare anomaly classified as a malformation of the branchial arches and represents less than 2% of congenital cervical malformations. Its clinical presentation involves cervical midline deformities: cephalic nodular lesion, linear groove with atrophic surface, and/or caudal sinus. Other midline alterations of variable complexity may also be present. Early treatment allows for avoiding long-term complications. Based on our experience in four clinical cases, a performed literature search on the topic in the last twenty years, and subsequent discussion of the

Cervical lymphangioma is a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system that shows a predilection for the head and neck regions. They are most common in children between the ages of three and five and are rarely present in adults. While over 90% of lymphatic malformations are congenital, they can also manifest later due to factors such as trauma, infection, tumors, or medical procedures. They are often asymptomatic, but symptoms, if present, vary depending on the location of the tumor. Imaging techniques such as ultrasonography and computed tomography can aid in accurately mapping the exten
