We report a case of a 4-year-old boy with a distal type of aortopulmonary window with crossed arrangement of the pulmonary arteries. This case highlights the potential clinical implications of this variant pulmonary arterial anatomy in the setting of the aortopulmonary window and the role of computed tomography angiography in accurately defining vascular relationships in patients with complex congenital cardiac defects.

OBJECTIVES: Interrupted aortic arch (IAA) includes a broad spectrum of associated anomalies. In this study, we present our surgical management and patient-specific decisions regarding IAA anomalies with early- and mid-term outcomes.
METHODS: The medical records of 25 patients undergoing IAA repair between 2014 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Sixteen patients had type B (64%) interruptions, 7 had type A (28%) interruptions, and 2 had type C (8%) interruptions. Fourteen patients had an isolated ventricular septal defect, and 3 of them had associated left ventricular outflow tract obstru

Aortopulmonary window (APW) seen in association with anomalous origin of left coronary artery from pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) is extremely uncommon. When faced with this combination, ALCAPA usually goes undetected since most of the clinical and echocardiographic features of ALCAPA, including ventricular dysfunction are absent due to co-existent pulmonary hypertension. Herein we report a 5-month-old child with a large APW in whom a preoperative computed tomography angiogram facilitated the diagnosis of ALCAPA. The case is described for its rarity and the challenges faced during management. Also,

BACKGROUND: To investigate the prenatal ultrasound diagnosis and management of patients with aortopulmonary septal defects (APSDs).
METHODS: A total of 8 fetuses with APSDs who underwent fetal echocardiography at our hospital from January 2015 to January 2019 were retrospectively included in this study.
RESULTS: Among the 8 fetuses, there were 4 cases of type I APSD, 3 cases were type II, and 1 case was type III. Among the 8 cases, there were 2 cases of simple APSD. There were echocardiographic characteristics that were common to all 3 types of APSD. This included defects between the ascendi

We report a patient with an acquired traumatic aortopulmonary window. The patient presented with an aortopulmonary fistula between the proximal ascending aorta and pulmonary trunk, which was missed on the initial hospital admission. The 26-year-old patient presented with high-output cardiac failure and examination features of a diastolic runoff. Patch closure of the defect using a sandwich technique was undertaken, with resolution of symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Aortopulmonary window is an uncommon congenital heart disease, with untreated cases not surviving beyond childhood. However, very rarely it can present in adult patients with features of pulmonary hypertension. Clinically these patients cannot be differentiated from other more common conditions with left to right shunt. Transthoracic echocardiography if performed meticulously, can depict the defect in aortopulmonary septum.
RESULTS: We report a case of large unrepaired aortopulmonary window in a 23 years old patient, diagnosed on transthoracic echocardiography.

In this study, we describe a rare case of a 45-year-old man with a recurrence of aortopulmonary window (APW) 41 years after the initial patch closure for an APW at the age of 4. He presented with persistent cough and exertional dyspnoea. Imagings revealed a recurrence of APW, ascending aorta saccular aneurysm, and severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. Re-patch closure, ascending aortic replacement, and mitral and tricuspid annuloplasties were performed, followed by an uneventful postoperative course. The relapse of APW in the remote postoperative period is extremely rare.

Aortopulmonary window with interrupted aortic arch is rarely reported beyond infancy. Pre-operative assessment and surgical repair are challenging. We report successful surgical repair of aortopulmonary window with interrupted aortic arch in a 6-year-old girl with near-normal pulmonary artery pressure immediately following surgery.

Aortopulmonary window is a rare cardiac defect, and early management with surgery or transcatheter closure is lifesaving. Here, a 9-month-old patient, who underwent a successful device closure with additional size-Amplatzer duct occlude, is presented to make emphasis that it may be considered as the device of choice for defects in close proximity to aortic valve and/or coronary ostium.

A 10-day-old infant was evaluated for heart failure and differential cyanosis. Type A interrupted aortic arch with duct-dependent lower body circulation was identified. There was associated type 2 aortopulmonary window which led to a "Valentine on a crab" appearance on echocardiography. Pattern recognition in imaging is useful for early identification of anomalies and for triaging appropriate evaluation and management.

An aortopulmonary window is known to be associated in 5% of interrupted aortic arch cases. The combination of these lesions with a bovine-type aortic arch is much more uncommon. We report its embryological explanation and successful single-stage surgical repair in a three-month-old infant.

Aortopulmonary window (APW) is a rare congenital cardiac condition. A large number of patients with a large APW usually die within 1 year of age. It is extremely rare to find cases of APW surviving till adult age and it is still rare to surgically treat such patients who are incidentally detected in adult age because such subsets of patients invariably have associated pulmonary vascular obstructive disease in advanced stage and thus there is therapeutic dilemma to surgically correct these patients. Although cases of uncorrected AP window presenting in adulthood have been reported but literatur

Type II Aortopulmonary window (APW) accounts for only 10% of total cases of APW, which by itself is a rare congenital anomaly. Various cardiac malformations have been reported to be associated with this rare anomaly. We report one such association of origin of left subclavian artery (LSCA) from left pulmonary artery (LPA) via ductus arteriosus that was surgically repaired.

Berry syndrome is a rare congenital cardiac lesion consisting of a distal aortopulmonary window, the aortic origin of the right pulmonary artery (PA), intact ventricular septum and an interrupted or hypoplastic aortic arch. Different repair techniques have been described in the literature. We report a case of Berry syndrome, in whom myocardial ischaemia developed following direct implantation of the right PA to the main PA, which was resolved using an interposition tube graft.

Topsy-turvy heart is a rare congenital anomaly; it has a specific characteristic of cardiac malrotation and superior-inferior arrangement of right/left ventricles. A five-day-old patient was diagnosed antenatally with hypoplastic left heart and right hydronephrosis and had been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of respiratory distress. The postnatal imaging studies revealed an abnormal ventricular arrangement with a large aortopulmonary window, ventricular septal defect (VSD), and the upside-down orientation resulting in the posterior-inferior displacement of the common arterial confluenc

Aortopulmonary window (APW) is a rare but serious congenital cardiac malformation, most patients with APW will die from congestive heart failure within one year after birth. In fact, patients with large APW is rarely seen in childhood or adult life. However, we report an older child with a large anomalous "window" on the ascending aorta, with discontinuous pulmonary arteries, and the left pulmonary artery (LPA) arising via a left-sided arterial duct in the presence of a right aortic arch. Preoperative diagnosis made by echocardiography and chest computerized tomography revealed anatomical futu

Aorto-pulmonary window (APW) is a rare congenital heart defect characterized by the connection between the ascending aorta and the pulmonary trunk before its bifurcation, just above the semilunar valves, due to the abnormal development of spiral septum. The short-axis echocardiographic view of the right ventricular outflow track, the three-vessel-view, and the three-vessel-trachea view are the key planes for prenatal diagnosis. We report a case of APW with absent ductus arteriosus in a monochorionic twin, detected by prenatal echocardiography. The diagnosis was confirmed postnatally and correc
