Sixteen patients with endocardial cushion defects were studied by echocardiography and ultrasonocardiotomography. Three characteristic findings, common to both complete and partial forms, were observed. Two patients, ages 14 and 18, with congenital left ventricular-right atrial communication through a defect in the tricuspid valve were studied by echocardiography. Recent epidemiological data relating congenital stenosis of the aorta are cited. An anatomical criterion is used in the formation of three classification groups, each containing a number of different types. There are no clear-cut clinical pictures corresponding to these anatomical varieties, however, so that differential diagnosis is dependent on the haemodynamic and contrastographic data. There are, on the other hand, clinical signs that serve as pointers to the site of the stenosis.

The plain roentgenographic and angiocardiographic features of 15 patients with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve were reviewed. The authors report two cases of atresia of the pulmonary outflow with an intact interventricular septum; they are remarkable for their slow progression. In one patient the pulmonary perfusion was furnished by systemic arteries, while in the other it was by way of a patent ductus arteriosus. This second patient died following an attempted bi-cavo-pulmonary anastomosis. Such slow progression, which is the exception, is only possible if there is a substantial vicarious pulmonary circulation.

The infant mortality from cardiovascular malformations in a region with a population of 2 million inhabitants during a 10-year period has been studied. The study involved validation of the diagnoses and judgement whether the cardiovascular malformation was the dominating or a contributing cause of death. This is a report on the anatomical characteristics of 17 cases of tricuspid atresia. Three of these cases had a discrepancy between the type of bulboventricular loop (dextro) and the position of the great arteries (the aorta being to the left of the pulmonary artery).
